It's a great microphone that picks up everything…which is annoying.

I could not have agreed more with this. It just picks up so much background noise that post-processing makes it almost unnatural. I truly don't know what's the hype, perhaps I'm not using it properly.

      • May be the acoustic in your recording room is poor?

        • Possibly, but my understanding is that it is supposed to overcome such obstacles. After all, its intended use is not for professionals.

@BargainCowboy: It doesn't matter how good your microphone is, if you record your voice in a small bedroom without acoustic foam and proper sound insulation from family members chatting and street noises, the audio recording is still going to be crap.

        • @edfoo: Exactly, I use a pop filter and acoustic foam in my room. I think expecting a quality mic to NOT pick up room noise is unrealistic. Treat your room and you should get an improvement.

        • @ShipShapeRC:
I do use a pop filter. How do you use acoustic foam? Or where?

you can change the mode so it doesn't

      • Yes this has a 3 modes. Whole room mode, a 2 person mode and a 1 person mode. Just click the switch. It's a nice feature to have 3 mics in 1.

Lower the gain until you find the sweet spot, and use an isolation shield and you'll be fine.

Yeah the background noise is a real problem with this. Otherwise I couldn't be happier with it. Can anyone suggest something similar (zero latency is a must) that performs as well without the background noise?

      • Try getting a box of tiles from djcity or similar first. Put them around the room and have 1 directly behind the mic. Also get a pop filter. Its black friday still, plenty of deals.

  • Damn, just paid 169 last week from JB HiFi.
And totally agree with comments about it picking up everything.

  • For some weird reason, shipping costs vary slightly depending on the colour…..

  • Overrated

  • The microphone picks up way too much annoying noise that is hard to filter out unless you are in a controlled environment with no background sound

Might be worth it for some to spend usd$10 more for the bundle with AC: origins

A lot of people are saying this captures a lot of background noise but can anyone recommend an alternative desktop mic?

    • A mic that wont pic up background noise is cheap mic with cheap results. There is a reason why a studio booth uses pop filters and acoustic tiles.

I use an AT2050 with 1 pop filter and 1 square of accoustic tile sitting directly behind it. Bugger all room noise. Its more expensive and not USB. The cheaper Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ might do the trick for you.

Let me say, using a high quality mic and complaining about background noise in an untreated room is like complaining that Ferrari's are no good as you get speeding tickets with them. Its easier to get background noises with a quality mic just as it is easier to get a speeding ticket with a ferrari. If you dont have the driving skills - dont buy a quality mic. I'm sure a logitech headset wired in will work fine and be much cheaper. Oh course it may sound a nice as your Aunty's '76 Carolla though. Just treat your darn room and stop complaining or get a mic at big w!
