  • Was $399 rrp when I came out over a year ago. Price is about right

Just so people are aware that this model was discontinued due to a what appears to a significant firmware issues.

The modem hasn't had a firmware update since April but if you don't intend to use it other then on stock settings it's great value.

    • Oh thank god. I paid $130 for a TP-Link VR600v2 just a week ago. If this one didn't have some kinda issue to make me feel better I might've done something drastic…

Edit: Who am I kidding, someone give me a reason not to replace my week-old VR600 with this please. I'll start - it's only 500Mbps faster on 2.4GHz which is the slower band anyway and only 433Mbps faster on the more important 5GHz band.

      • had the same dilemma a while back and i have the vr600 mk1.

read about some issues with the vr2600 and decided to sweat my vr600 rather than refresh ….. my adsl is the bottleneck not the modem router.
when vr2800 is sub $200 i will refresh.

        • No point wasting hundreds on a v g b whatever the deal is modem when a 40-99$ adsl modem churns out just about same speed and performance for adsl connection. Unless u have some beast network setup going on.

        • my adsl is the bottleneck

Yeah true. No amount of money is going to make my ADSL speed.

  • I replaced my faulty Nighthawk with this and it has not missed a beat. Fantastic unit.

    • Yeah I its great too and would love to the VR2800 if it didn't cost so much more. I think the responsiveness of the GUI is terrific.

Have you been able to change the DNS settings? I tried to change it to google's DNS but it appears to just ignore the change as per the reported faults.

      • I have not tried yet to be honest. Haven't needed to since Getflix got blocked

      • yes my dns is set to google not my ISP.

My VR games will work better with this right?

    • VR modem router …… VR games ……. must be an acronym i don’t know about …… wikipedia and VR ……

  • How is this compared to the AC68u or R7000?

    • +1

I will never touch Netgear again after the issues I had with the D7000. It was a faulty unit showing the same issues that are chronicled all over the internet and they refused to assist me as I was outside the phone warranty period. Trying to get a replacement unit was an absolute nightmare.

      • Did you get it replaced eventually?

  • Yes after two weeks of calling support daily. I then sold the new replacement on ebay
