  • sign in to get the price as $45

    • currently $45 for me without signing in.. regardless it doesnt hurt to sign in! :)

  • Does it have aussie plug or do I need an adaptor for it?

EDIT: I just saw, AU plug.

    • -2

Has a CN plug which is similar to AU

      • -6

        Errr….. no……

        • similar in shape, but not in safety :-)

(CN plug doesn't have insulated bits at top of live/neutral pins, plus 1mm difference in length

        • +1

What are all these negs for?

CN plugs have straight pins. AU plugs have angled pins.

The product picture indicates the inclusion of an adapter.

        • +1

@Jinster: The negs are because asa79 was right when he/she said "Has a CN plug which is similar to AU"

The item that you have called an adapter is actually the remote controllable power socket. It accepts multiple pin types in, but on the back the pins are angled and are mechanically identical to Australian sockets (see pic). As mentioned by others here, they lack the required insulation as per the Australian standard.

Similarly, the hub in this set also has angled pins on the back.

  • Bought. Thanks.

  • Bit of a noob here. How does this work? Is this kit what I require for automation or do I need to get other things as well. Is there a video I can check out.

    • +1

Hub connects all devices. Then you can setup triggers or conditions. Eg at 7am switch on power. If door sensor opens, trigger alarm.

      • So I don't need to buy anything extra right?

        • +2

Don't need anything else. Hub connects all devices and it hooks into your home WIFI network. Power thing can turn on/off when conditions met. Sensor detects movement and then can trigger something else. Door sensor is open/closed and can trigger an event. Switch can be pressed to trigger an event, like turn power on/off etc.

        • @tessel: thanks mate

Have a quick read of this: https://www.androidcentral.com/xiaomi-mi-smart-home-kit-home…

This kit can also interact with HASS.io which you can run on a raspberry pi, allowing for automation tasks, interaction between various different platforms, etc.

      • +1

And by using Home Assistant you can disable this from phoning home to China.

      • Or Domoticz. I've found it a bit more user friendly for setting up automation tasks than Home Assistant.

  • Great price OP!

  • +1

Any chance we can get a discount on the smoke/gas detectors?

  • Does everything have to go through the Xiaomi app to work? Or can I do without? Not so comfortable having security details going through server in China…

    • +1

You can't get away from using the Mi Home app - even if you go down the path of using g it with Home Assistant.

      • does that mean just to set up (looking at Domoticz) or for ongoing use?
        thx!

        • +1

to answer myself and if anyone else is interested.. yes!

Once you've used the Mihome app to set up, you can get it all detected by Domoticz and then you no longer need Mihome!

  • posted earlier this month by $9 and it was quite popular.

$2.11 actually, but regardless. Cheapest it's been!

  • It shows $62 dollars AUD for me? If I change it back to USD then paypal shows $61.5 . how did we get $59?. only a few bucks I know but this is Ozbargain.

Just some info on this bundle.

It is a great little pack. Though setting it up could be a bit challenging at first.

    1. You need to download the Mi Home app.
    2. Create an account
    3. Set the location as "Mainland China" (there are other regions such as Singapore, US, Asia…etc. None of those regions work with this unit for the moment)
    4. When setting alarms you would have to remember that time is based on Mainland China time zone.
    5. Some menu options are in Chinese though you can change the language to English.
    6. Internet radio got only Chinese radio stations (there may be one or two stations that plays some english music)

It works flawlessly after setting up all the sensors.

Check this video on how to set it up

    • only drama ive found with the door sensors is they dont like being placed on metal. Thats a bugger as all my doors and windows are metal framed.

      • Oh really? Good to know. I didn't have that problem. Though I hate setting alarms or any other schedule tasks because of the time zone difference.

    • +1

There was a hack around that allowed other radio stations other than Chinese.

Domoticz: This is the other option for anyone who is concerned about their privacy. It is a free and open-source software server for various home automation products. It also supports Xiaomi.

Not sure about Domoticz but it's a nightmare to set up with Home Assistant. Not recommended for noobs

      • Interesting. I've got Home assistant running and am waiting on my Xiaomi gear to arrive. I hadn't read anything on the forums indicating that it would be a challenge.

Is the challenge in finding an API key? I had a few dramas getting mine so that I could use HASS to control my Xiaomi Vacuum, but that's all sorted now.

      • Should give Home Assistant a try this weekend ;)

  • A remainder to someones who wants to use Xiaomi smart home and google home/alex at the same time that doesn't work. Xiaomi smart home kit only can be installed in the region of China Mainland, however yeelight need to be installed in other region except China Mainland if you want to control it with google home or alexa. So you can't control your yeelights with smart home. That's a shame….
If anyone know how to settle this problem, I am very appreciate if you let me know………

    • Home Assistant?

      • maybe try it, thanks

    • I have the MiHome app set to Mainland China for my plug and camera, and the Yeelight app set to Singapore for the bulbs. I then have Home Assistant running on a Raspberry Pi, which can talk directly to the devices over LAN (no internet needed, ie your internet can disconnect like mine all the (profanity) time and also you can block the access to China) assuming you first enable developer mode on the devices to allow this LAN access that is.

      • I will try that, thanks!

  • Does this kit have an external alarm? or is for internal use only?

  • +4

Shame Lightinthebox are lying scumbag sellers. Would never buy another thing from these pricks.

    • +1

      Please explain?

  • It looks like homebridge may be another option for people on Apple devices wanting to avoid using the Mi app after initial setup - there's a plugin available here:
    https://www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-mijia

  • Thanks for that. Ordered! Been meaning to get this as I bought the temp sensors without the gateway, not realising it needed it. May as well get the whole package now. Didn’t bother with the 0.99 USD insurance protection as PayPal is good enough… I hope.

  • Is it good? Does it work with normal smart devices from Xiaomi and 3rd party manufacturers?
