Rice mods incoming, especially for Chevrolet badges on Commodores.

    • Nah bro you don't black out your Chev badge… save it for your stock badges.

    • dont forget the VW, Jeep and Range Rovers

      • Actually, I think the Ranger now tops the list.

If you're in Sydney then these guys are always cheaper. Shopped there before and the front is just a half opened warehouse door with an EFTPOS machine but the price is right: http://www.gllubricants.com/index.php?c=product3&a=list&pid=…

Great - wanted clear and the glossifier for my poor man's car bra.

    • Far out, until now caswell plating was the only other place that sold it according to google searches. Cheers dude

  • What is it and what is the normal price?

  • Can this be used to "paint" a portion of the brick inside the garage to stop car doors banging onto it?

    • +2

You're better off gluing a bit of foam or something then using plastidip.

Or "DONT BANG THE DOORS YOU IDIOTS" works well too.

      • +1

Yeah I've got a bit of foam stuck on the wall already but thought this might be a cleaner option :)

    • Buy a Skoda Kodiaq.

      • Does it have gull wing doors?

    • try it out and report back to us :D

  • How long do these last for? How many cans are needed to do, say 4 x 17" wheels?

    • +1

      Typically 5 cans

    • +1

4 cans should do you- they last for a long time cant really given you an estimate since I've only used it as semi-permanent solution, depends on how well you apply them how many coats etc.

      • Do you have to remove the wheels to do it?

        • Nah not at all

        • @acek47:
Doesn't that mean you'd be spraying all over the brakes?

        • @BTRaynes:
You cover the hubs with garbage backs and lugs with tape

        • You dont but it's alot easier if you do

        • @BTRaynes:

If i can't be arsed to remove the tyres I just tactically put some plastic drop sheets over the brakes or some newspaper and get to spraying.

Although my rims have quite big gaps so you can really get in there - I guess if you don't have that access then you'd probably want to remove the tyres. I've just never had too

        • @H32017: I think removing the wheels makes it easier. Also I think you have to paint the inside of the wheels too? It would be weird looking if you have a silver color wheels and you only paint the outer area.

    • +1

i did my wheels in 2014 and they're still holding up. even went through a tyre change and besides a few scuffs (which were easy to touch up), it remains intact

      • How about washing your car? How do you clean dirt and grime off the wheels without scrubbing?

        • +1

ideally, you'd use a pressure washer and something like autoglym's wheel cleaner.

but don't have a pressure washer so it's a bunch of soft brushes and woolly finger mitts instead. plastidip isn't fragile but it's obviously weakest at the edges where it'll peel more easily so exercise caution in those areas

awful stuff, always looks shabby quickly and then is a pain in the a$$ to remove

    • +3

Isn't the entire premise of this stuff based on the opposite of that scenario?

      • +2

He probably just had a bad experience

        • Actually no, I have this stuff come into our workshop all the time. Good luck with it guys.

      • +4

Hard to remove PD usually means that the user scrimped on the number of coats.

        • How many coats are generally needed for a good quality job?

        • +1

@sky blu: about 4-6, depending how competent the person is at applying thin, even coats.

    • +2

Don't know why you think it is so awful, I have used it to coat the wheels of my car, it looks great.

      • How long did it take to dry? Did you have to remove the wheels?

        • +1

if you're doing all four at once, your first one should be dry and ready for the next layer by the time you've done the others. also depends on the temperature/humidity on that day.

i didn't remove my wheels either, just rolled the car back and forward a few feet to make sure the inner barrel gets coated evenly.

        • Applied 4 separate thin layers. Dried in a few hours.

      • And how long have you had it on for and have you tried to remove it?

        • +1

Over 3 years and still on. Only tried to peel off one small part for experiment and it seems to come off quite easily.

  • Definitely cheaper prices around, even on eBay right now
