Was just browsing HN Chadstone and saw these remotes reduced from $149 to $29. It's not advertised in any catalogue but here is a link to the Sony website showing the remote and its specifications: http://www.sony.lv/product/tpa-universal-remote-controls/rm-…

  • it's a shame i don't have a hn near me, these would be great for laser tag.

    • I'm not sure it's all HN stores. They one I went to was Chadstone, Melbourne. They had a bin full of them. I grabbed two.

  • Good deal. I'm there tomorrow.

  • Wow, this is the first remote I've seen that has a perfect layout for VDR. Shame I'm not in Melbourne.

  • Does it works for ps3?

    • ps3 needs bluetooth remote, so it wont work on this or any normal infrared based ones.

  • Would someone be able to tell a comparison between this and an entry level Logitech Harmony (i.e. 525) - not for price, but for ease of use/programming and future proofing? Thanks.

    • It's easier to program the Logitech as you have computer interface and you can get virtually any device codes even if you not have the original remote. You can save the program in your computer. With the Sony, you probably need the original remote controls to learn. If you replace/reset the remote, you have to program it again.

Logitech is meant to be used in "Activity" mode (eg. watching TV, watching DVD etc) as opposed to "device" mode but most of my devices have on/off toggle switch, last mode memory etc and so the "Activity" mode gets it wrong most of the time. I would prefer Sony's dedicated buttons for individual devices.

      • Read a few reviews on this remote. Lack of compatibility, does not work with Sony blu-ray or Philips DVD player.

The Sony is limited to programming the number of buttons available on the remote. Not always labled the same as whats on the original remote.

Logitech is more flexible in that you can program additional buttons due to the use of the LCD and name them.

        • thank you guys for the feedback ^^

  • This remote has good reviews but it is also supposed to be cheap, at least in other countries, not $149 stated here. There is a replacement model, http://www.remotecentral.com/news/510/sony_rm-vlz620_learnin… I wonder how much the new model is. Anyone going to HN please let us know the price.
