EnergyAustralia - Cashback via Cashrewards [New Customers Only] [Requires Work]

711

Ok, I know something similar/same has been posted before. But I want to elaborate on a process that could give a bit more in returns. I wanted to post this earlier but held back till I could confirm, through my own personal experience all that I'm about to state. I got about two months of electricity and gas for free this way, but then again my household energy usage is quite low and YMMV.

  • Step 1. Sign up for EnergyAustralia Electricity & Gas via Cashrewards. That would net you $126 in cashback provided you are a new customer

  • Step 2. The Cashrewards link will direct you to the EnergyAustralia online sign-up page. New online sign-ups will get $50 credit on their first Electricty AND Gas bill. This may not be really necessary but, take a screen shot of the offer page as a backup in case you don't get the credit (I didn't have any such issue). I can confirm that both the cashback and the sign-up credit offers stack.

  • Step 3 (Bonus) (Velocity Frequent Flyer account required): Once your electricity & gas services are active. Login into your online account portal and scroll down to the "velocity frequent flyer" section and link your account. This will get you a $100 Virgin Australia Holidays voucher sent via email after a few weeks. I sold my voucher for $50 on OzB Classifieds

So my personal net "Cashback" was 126 (cashrewards)+ 100 (signup credit) + $50 (Voucher sale) = $276. This covered 2 months of my energy bills and now I'm going to port out of EnergyAustralia for another provider as their rates are not that great.

Note:
My cashrewards approval date initially showed up as 3 months from date of sign-up and then it went up to 6 months. I raised a ticket with cashrewards and asked them why it was taking that long for approval as I already paid for my first billing cycle. In response, cashrewards just approved the cashback immediately.

Also, it may be possible to talk to EnergyAustralia customer care and negotiate better discount percentages after you sign-up online. That way you may get even better mileage from this deal. But be sure to confirm with the representative that it won't cancel out the $50 credit

EnergyAustralia products are not sold or available in NT, WA, TAS or outside of the Energex network in QLD.

I'm not sure if this post needs to stay on the deals section or the forums. It's my first time posting a not-so-straightforward deal so please….. be kind.

UPDATE: Message from Cashrewards Rep:
"We had to take the store off CR as the system picked up some irregular activity. We've reviewed the terms and process and have now re-activated the store back on CR. Revised entry in our special terms "cashback may take up to 180 days to be confirmed by Energy Australia"

    Great work. Thanks for sharing.

      yep, and a true OzBargainer:

This covered 2 months of my energy bills and now I'm going to port out of EnergyAustralia for another provider as their rates are not that great.

Maybe this deal is enough to switch me away from AGL. I'm currently on their black hole plan for natural gas. Haven't received a bill for 18 months, my account still says it's being activated when I look online (which I'm always scared to do as I don't want to remind anyone).

Maybe I should start reselling my gas :)

      • I hope you don't get a bill of tens of thousands one dark day in the future!!!

        • Only up to a maximum of 12 months, and you have 12 months to pay it. They can't backdate further than 12 months.

        • +2

@b2dz: They can only back bill me 9 months because it would be deemed as their issue, I've kept all the paperwork from when I took out the service with them.

          https://www.ewon.com.au/page/suppliers/supplier-responsibili…
From NSW where I am, it's the same in VIC too.

      • Bloody AGL

      • +3

Why would you even want to switch in such a situation! Like b2dz said, they can backdate it only up to 12 months. Lucky you!

  • New customer only! Please change the title.

    • Thanks.. Done!

This is not a free month of energy. It's a series of cashbacks and bonuses that just happen to cover one person's monthly bill. If it really was "free energy for a month" I would expect BTC/ETH miners would be all over it.

    • +1

      Thanks. Changed the title.

    • Yep, we'd be happy to pay like $300 / month for "uncapped" or "unlimited" power usage :)

EnergyAustralia products are not sold or available in NT, WA, TAS or outside of the Energex network in QLD.:(

    • +5

I don't think they have electricity in Tasmania.

      • +2

        Nope, plenty of scabs though.

    • This or "Avail to SA, NSW, Vic & Qld*" should be in the title.

there is an exit fee for cancelling in the first 2 years

    • +3

The Flexi Saver option, which is the plan cashrewards directs you to has no exit fees.

  • Great timing, I'm moving soon!

Upvoted for detailed & thorough Info. :)

Thanks. I'm at work refreshing this page to count upvotes with a smile on my face :D

Thanks OP. Am looking to move and will look into it.

  • edit: already sorted

Op, how long did it take for the cash rewards sale to track? I signed up about a week ago and it hasn't tracked yet.

    • +1

Not too sure as I signed up 3 months ago. But I don't think it took longer than a week. Contact Cashrewards?

    • I'm interested in this as well, signed up a couple of days ago and can see the link in click history but didn't get the tracking mail yet

      • Hey Enzio. FYI, my I only just got my sales tracked email a day or two ago (approx two weeks after signing up). That was closely followed by an account activation email, so it probably depends on whether you're switching to them (could take up to 3 months before they take over the account), or whether you're connecting a new residence (which is what I did).

        • thanks mate, I got my activation mail today and I was switching the supplier as I just moved into a new place. Still no CR tracking mail, might talk to them after the 7 day period that they mention.

  • No option of solar on their plans?

    • Let me know how you go with this

      • You have to live chat to get the option for solar. No idea why. I have asked and their response was we can only offer it through live chat or telephone. So bewildering.

        I just ended the chat.

        • scamming the ignorant

  • I moved like 2 weeks ago, where was this offer then :-p

    • This offer has been around for 3 months (maybe more but I noticed it on cashrewards only then) :)

  • Thanks mate - just did this for elec

  • +1

FYI if your getting less than 30% off electricity on the flexi plan with EA your not negotiating hard enough :)

    • +2

      This guy negotiates.

        Scab is the new jv

        • +1

Hard to say who is worse tbh.

  • Clicked on the link it says "Sorry, this merchant is not found". Did a search and say the $126 cashback but then it leads to the Sorry, this merchant is not found again.

  • Removed from cashrewards? Merchant not there anymore

    • It's now expired

  • +1

cashrewards has this offer for more than 1 month , they removed it today ?

Piss poor effort by Cashrewards. Slowly moving to Velocity store as they have better rates and using CR only when absolutely needed.

Neg due to major problem with retailer (CR) and not the actual deal or OP.

    • +1

Not really surprising, and not so much of 'poor effort': EnergyAu or any other business would definitely close any loopholes discovered if it causes them to lose money / not make any profit.

It's better to close the loophole early than it is to have to do a backflip and do a refund after thousands of customers have already purchased your product….

You do get companies that 'honor the deal' once in a while e.g this famous one but they will only do it if they want good press and newspaper publicity.

  • No surprises by CR.

  • Thanks OP.

Your post reminded me of the Amaysim plan (250$ cash back).Had a quick chat with Energy Australia customer support, informed them about Amaysim plan and increased the discount from 20 to 28%.

    • Where did you find this deal? I'm about to sign up and someone mentioned $100, others mentioned $250. Can you please explain?

      • I am an Amaysim customer, I received this offer by email. It could be targetted one.

Sorry for the late reply. As I just logged into the site today after a long gap.

  • Deal is up again

  • been their customer for ages.
thanks for tip about the voucher - never logged into that that account before, just pay the bills… now i will

  • Cheers. Moving next week, needed a deal to get me to bother signing up for Gas and Electricity.

  • I am with Agl and I decided to try this trick couple of months ago. Agl offered me 32% off electricity usage and 28% off gas usage. When I compared it against Energy Australia, I was still more than $100 better off with Agl after considering all bonuses and cashbacks.

Do your calculations before you decide to switch. Their pay on time discount rate are crap and also standard usage rates are also high.

  • I am currently with Powershop using their bulkpack I pay Anytime Usage: 26.93 c/kWh Daily Supply Charge: 83.66 c/day. Wondering if switching to energy Australia is worth it. No gas usage.

  • Make sure you take up their secure saver product. Your rates won't increase for 2 years (most major retailers are putting their rates up 15%-20% in VIC in 2018)

    • does cashrewards work with secure saver? it would be fantastic if it did…I'm thinking of moving across

  • Hey thanks op this is pretty good! Hey does anyone know how to negotiate a good discount on their electricity and gas? I can only seem to get 24% off electricity and 21% off gas and that was through AGL and origin

People on here managed to get 30%!! How?? Any tips would seriously appreciate it!!

    • +1

call up your existing retailer…tell them a door knocker offered you an amazing offer, as well as movie tickets and a date with his sister and you want to leave…and see what you get

      • Haha date with the sister ay?? I'll take it!

  • I'm curious at what people are going to pay for their daily charge and the actual electricity rate. When I was doing my research EnergyAustralia was in the top 3 most expensive billers I could have signed up with. Even with a discount of 30% they were MORE expensive. Don't be fooled by a discount, temporary or permanent.
