    • Lollll. Funny man

  • Just a noob question here, with a portable air conditioner, do you still need to drill a hole in the wall like the normal air cons? Thanks…

    • No, but you do need a window.

    • no its needs to be setup near a window it pushes the hot air out of a tube attached to a plastic bracket that sits vertical or diagonal depending on your window.

  • Is this any good? I can't find any review

    • probably same as any other no name portable aircon :) I've had 2 in the past and they do their job nicely. noise can be a bit high so if there's some data on the noise level that is something to consider.

      • I'm currently using one from Dimplex, it dies after using it for 3 years. I was hoping that it could last longer.

        • +1

My Omega Altise just die after 7-8 years, maybe longer, brought another with higher power usage and 3 year warranty I think, at The Good Guys, so far so good(at least till the electricity bill arrive).

      • information from Kogan

        Noise Levels 49dB

    • Also do measure your room and the cooling power of the ac, really make a difference for me in those 35+ degree days

    • Neither could I but at this price point I don't think there is much difference between the brands. I'll report back it arrives

  • I have the kogan 14k BTU, cools our 6x6BR pretty well. Going one year without a hitch.. You'd get the same warranty from Kogan if you have any issues

    • Thanks for letting us know. I assume this is probably from a similar or same supplier as the Kogan brand to provide an alternative to their own brand products

    • One season without a hitch seems normal with these units. It is the next season that seems to be the issue with most.

From reading various forums it seems that three years seems to be the average life for portable air-conditioners.

Does anyone know why? What goes in these things vs a window unit etc? Why the poor longevity?

Are there 10 year old Delonghi's or other older premium brand units?

      • due to the hoses, they cause leaks and cause your unit to overheat in the long run if not maintained

  • ALDI have one for $399 and 14,000 BTU: https://goo.gl/B4PGVn

Easy to return if you aren't happy.

    • I can't tell if that one is Reverse Cycle … I'm going to assume not. Looks less 'plastic' than the Vostok

      • No idea, they used to sell a Stirling brand a few years ago that was reverse cycle.

And I doubt it's less plastic, probably just the colour or photo that makes it look like that.

      • I think the ALDI one is 'reverse cycle'.
From my understanding an evaporative (or 'swampy') cooler wouldn't need a window exhaust.
        It includes a window kit

Evap does need venting although the reasons are different.

Evap coolers work by evaporating water (derr) which cools the air but it also raises the relative humidity. As RH rises less water can be evaporated until at about 50% and higher there's not much point anymore (and the bodies ability to sweat ie cool itself is hampered in high humidity making it uncomfortable in any case).

So you need to exchange air somehow for it to work.

    • This might be a better choice as it has longer 3 year warranty

    • This one is "Pretty and portable!"

      Aldi's one… errrrr

  • just be AWARE!!! with kogan shipping time, ordered the 14k btu since 22 nov and no update until now, even though the site said next day dispatch… calling the customer service will be a pain, stay on the line for an hour or so to get someone to talk to you, their answer just be patience, my first and last experience with kogan. better get it from the good guys if you need it fast. i'll stay away from kogan to be honest.

    • So what happened when you raised a complaint through the fair trade ombudsman for false advertising?

    • any update on this? have you got yours delivered? how long did it take?

  • +1

    No longer free shipping.
