Now $400 cheaper. I dare say it wont last long at this price.

Also Cash rewards will give you about $10. You can try signing up for the newsletter for $15 off as well. Didn't work for me though.

  • So is this basically their version of a Surface Pro?

    • +4

Nope, it's a traditional light laptop. Pretty similar to the small Macbook Pro (but a lot cheaper at this price!)

      • -6

how does this compares to dell's $300 ?

what target market is this for ?

        • +1

It's for PC people that want a MacBook style. Very good quality build. Razer is a gaming brand - but this smaller version is without the gaming card. Also a better price.

        • +3

          @McBanjo:
The build is good quality but the thermals are pretty shite and Razer has some infamous problems. vBIOS and MOSFET incidents, look em up.

      • +1

Does it have heating issues? I had an SP3 and used it to cook eggs. Not sure if SP4 was same.

        • Since when has Razer done anything that does not resemble a stove to stir fry on?

    • Isnt this cheaper if you match it by specs? Plus 4k screen? I'm looking for a good spec'd Surface Pro too but they're never on sale :L

  • +2

That massive bezel around the screen instantly killed it for me, great specs and price but looks hideous

    • yea i guess very similar to the older macbook pros….

    • +2

That Dual-Core processor killed it for me.
      Pretty much midrange performance now.

We need 4c/8t laptops from 15W-32W TDP range.

I'm thinking eGPU's to be honest.

  • Apart from the Massive Bezel, how does this compare to DELL XPS laptop. The price looks great

  • It can use Razor Core eGPU as a game laptop

  • +1

The new 4 core is on it's way, im gonna hold out for one more price drop hopefully >$250 and strike. It's the only way to justify 1 more laptop whilst already having 5.

    • The 512gb 13inch Dual core is $2359 on AU Razer Store

The 512gb 13inch Quad core is about $1960 only available on Razer USA + shipping + taxes + no local warranty.

Razer doesn't discount very often. I doubt you'll be seeing the quad core under $2500 anytime soon on Razer AU

edit - Thought you meant the 4 core price dropping. My bad.

    • It's already over $250? its $1499.

      • +1

Yeah lol my wording turned out quite bad there on a few fronts. One more price drop of $250 or more would be a justifiable deal sealer for me. Reading back, it was quirky in a weird kinda way lol

  • +4

    Bezel is thicc

  • Sign up to their email system and get an extra $15 off your first purchase.

Not even the same laptop. Whilst some reviews are mixed, it's generally pretty favorable. Most problems you'll notice out of the box if any (Whirling fan noise) which i'm sure they'll replace.

      • +1

        Amazon will, probably.

        Razer support is notoriously horrible.

        • +1

I actually just had a really good situation with support. They asked almost no questions about my Razer Blade 2017, sent in for repair, and got it back as good as new, despite buying it from the Microsoft AU Store.

        • +2

@DogGunn: How did you return it? to USA or Hong Kong? How long did it take?

What was the problem with your laptop? Is it the heating/fan issue?

          Thanks

        • @boohooimissout: The heating on my 2017 Blade has been perfect (although loud), even when gaming - never had it thermal throttle, and I watch the temps.

It was a problem with trackpad, left click button was a bit faulty, wouldn't always register. So I complained about that to Razer, they organised a repair, a TNT pickup. Sent it in, but also sent in my power supply, and wrote on the form that it was fraying. I didn't actually ask Razer support about that.

They replaced the trackpad (it's now even clickier and better than it came) and gave me a brand new power supply.

Repair organised through Razer email support (in a day) was sent to Tecworks in NSW (I am VIC), and took about 6 business days to do. They sent it back via CouriersPlease yesterday, and received today. No cost to me in shipping or otherwise. Just time I guess.

Overall I am pretty happy with the support I got.

        • @Droidyy: Oh yeah, it definitely is. I follow /r/razer, so I see the almost daily threads about their support, both post and pre-purchase. I specifically bought from the Microsoft Store AU for the reason that I would be doing warranty claims with them instead, and that it would be much easier to convince them to repair it under Australian Consumer Law than dealing directly with Razer.

Turns out Microsoft Store support was horrible. They connect you to their American call centre where they shirk all responsibility (as required by Australian law) and say contact Razer. They refuse to accept that as per Australian law, they are required to deal with issues and instead say your warranty is with Razer only, not us. I have a tax invoice from Microsoft Australia too.

I've now complained to Microsoft about my treatment - but am very happy with how Razer operated.

was considering this, but got the Xiaomi Mibook Pro (Max spec) for a bit less. sacrificed the 4k screen for better CPU and GPU performance

    • +1

Thought on the Mibook? Been in the market for a new windows lappy, want something of similar build quality to a macbook, how do the Xiaomi's compare??

      • +1

        Not good I think.

    • +1

I really like the look of the Mibook Pro, but afraid of how support is going to go if any issues pop up…

  • +2

i own one of these for 1 month ago i brought used off ebay for $1089. have to say its lovely to use, but as a portable device its not great on battery life. Mostly due to the 4K screen. i only get a good 4-5 hours tops before i need to charge. Great notebook and i reccommend a Dbrand skin

    • Thumbs up for dbrand skins.

  • Not exactly a gaming machine if it doesn't have discrete gfx is it? Whats's this eGPU stuff?

    • It means you can plug into an external GPU

      • +1

Yeah but not cheap at all.

This review info makes another price drop required……..playing with fire here…..happy to be proven wrong

    • Surprised it took so long for someone to comment re: Linus. I remember when he bought everyone on his staff one (and it made a video)… disappointing that they weren't built so tough after all.

      • This is the followup video and issues and the NEW 2018 version improvements

  • teenage son extremely excited and wanting this as his BYOD for school next year. Buying directly from razer means what if anything goes wrong- the reviews are not exactly fabulous. Where would the laptop need to be taken/sent for service? Any stores in sydney?? Alternate is Dell xps 13..

    • Battery Won't last all day

  • +1

It's a Razer, but only has Intel on-board graphics. Don't expect to be doing any serious gaming.

    • +3

Yeah… I'm not convinced that having a 4k display on a 12.5' screen is useful in the first place, especially if you're on integrated graphics.

      • +3

I don't get the push for tiny 4K displays.. the difference between my two 27" monitors (one 1440p, one 4k) is minor at best. At 12.5" it's 100% pointless.

        • Yeah, how can you tell by eye that it's 4k at that size

        • add to this the added power consumption and it kinda turns into an overall negative

  • For this price look to the new i5/i7 8000 CPUs since they are both quad core whereas this old processor is a dual core.

  • I would prefer a Pixelbook at this price.

    • what if they were to drop this another $300?

      • haha .. maybe but I have made the move from linux to chromeOS (sort of the same thing anyway). Guess I could install Fedora on this Razer.

  • cant they changed that logo , looks so dorky

  • 100% Adobe RGB <3 Oh baby ..

  • Just went to purchase.. out of stock :( was in stock about an hour ago!

    • I am not associated.. not sure how to edit

      • You snooze you lose. It's still available on razer USA for $999USD plus whatever freight forwarding with cost. Probably around $1500AUD total by the time it gets here. Just no "local warranty".
