Hey guys, this is my first post.
These Amazon deals go really quick so I had to type this post fast for you guys, hopefully I did everything presentable enough.
Mad Men is a very highly rated series, I've never seen them this low, I picked up seasons 1-3 (reasonable postage costs too)
They're region free too guys, meaning they will play in Australia.
Enjoy.

Update.
It's close to $40 AU for all 3 including postage.
You also might want to consider Back to the Future trilogy (blu) for $34.49 if you haven't already heard of the black friday deals from Amazon.

  • I bought them on DVD, have a region-free player anyway so doesn't matter. But for AUD$40 delivered for all three, can't go past them as a christmas gift for my girlfriend. Purchased within the first minute of the deal :-D

  • It says Season One is Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only).. Is that correct?

  • Nice find, never seen the series, but just bought all 3 seasons. :p

  • I posted it on the existing Amazon Black Friday deal, but I do think its a good enough bargain to warrant its own post :) If your looking for something else to add to order and are a Clint fan, Gran Torino is $7.99 and The Man with no name trilogy is $25

Also says region free…though when ordering you get a warning stating 'at least one DVD on VHS in your order in region one' but They r blu rays so hopefully this is just a glitch
I actually thought all blu Ray were region free!
Would someone that knows mind explaining why some would n some wouldn't be?

It's all down to the studios, some studios always have region free titles (eg Warner Bros), but others often have region locked ones (Fox - though their catalog titles are often region free as well). There reasoning for having a region system is the same for why DVDs have region - different release schedules around the world, and sometimes because the distribution rights can vary country to country.

Some studios (Fox, Sony, Disney) are overly paranoid about people importing cheap movies from overseas, as opposed to buying the more expensive local variety. Heh, I guess they were right to be paranoid.

Almost all titles from Warner, Paramount and Universal are region-free (in the US at least). Lionsgate (distributor for Mad Men) is a bit harder to tell, since they don't do many relases, but the Mad Men Blu-ray's are definitely region-free because it actually says so on the back (for season 3 anyway, image found here: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Mad-Men-Season-Three-Blu-ray/6…). You can find region info from Blu-ray.com, and it's fairly reliable because it's submitted by users who have done actual testing on the discs.

Anyway, just got the three Mad Men Blu-ray's, plus the three Lord of the Rings movies, $USD 54 + shipping is a pretty good deal, since you can pay this much just for a single season of Mad Men locally ($66.99 for season 3 alone!)

    • Cool well blurry.com has a couple people agreeing that season 1 ( only on with region locking mention) is region free so I'll just hav to hope, thx for the info guys

I read this as Mad Max and wondered when they had made a tv series of it. haha

WOw perfect! Im going to USA in 2days and I have Amazon Prime account!

Just ordered all 3. Grand Total: AUD 40.21

  • Still available 4 hrs later. Thanks! I've only seen season 1 - one of the best dramas on TV. So bought 2 & 3.

  • Still available 8 hours later. Fantastic, thanks!

  • Still available @ 8.00am. Some small delays in shipping, ordered all three, due to dispatch December 1.

Awesome deal - thanks to the OP!

  • $40 AU all up? I'll put it in the description. I wasn't sure of postage for just the 3 series because I had other things in the order as well.
There's a tip, order in bulk, save on postage. I do it all the time from amazon.com, amazon.co.uk and amazon.ca
If you're curious, I also purchased Back to the Future trilogy on blu ray. At $34.49 US it's the cheapest around and very good since it is a new release. Also got the man with no name trilogy (blu), for $25 US which is great.

    • Latest price was $40.26 delivered for the three.

  • Excellent bargain. Well done to the thread OP.

  • Great deal, bought all the Mad Men, Leon, Fight Club, 2001 and the T2/Total recall pack for around $85… awesome!

  • Sweet deal on an unmissable show, just got seasons 2 + 3 for 26.95USD delivered.. thanks OP!

  • Wow this is cheap, I'm getting 3 seasons of this plus, 5 seasons of weeds. $10 each. Wow

  • Was tempted to round up a whole heap of blurays but amazon has really left me depleted in the past few weeks;

    Anyway thanks to the OP, i've ordered the following titles;

    -Mad Men Season 1, 2, 3
    -Watchmen Directors Cut
    -Gran Torino

Worked out just under $60 delivered.

  • How does combine shipping works with Amazon? I want to order some of the "lightning deals", but the catch is you have to pay for it with 10mins after you added it to your cart. But what if I want to buy more stuff later on? Would they be smart enough to bundle all my orders into one? (ie. One shipping cost only?)

  • I've been keeping stuff in my cart so that if I lightening deal comes along I can just add it to the other stuff.

    • Beware of that tactic, if the price changes on the cart items you won't get the old price. You may be better doing the checkout and then combining the orders later (provided they haven't gone into shipping mode).

See here on how to do it:
      http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=5…

      • Really I was unaware of that, it still comes up with a big message at the top of the screen telling you that price has changed right ? it used to

  • Grabbed them, little upset I missed Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on Blu-ray for $4.99US each, I've bought tons off stuff off Amazon.com and .co.uk and this is probably one of the best deals I have got, thanks again.

Edit: Stuff it I bought a second lot to ship together for sister, $75.23AUD all up.

  • This will be on until some time Saturday (US Time)

"We have lowered the price of the first three seasons of Mad Men to $9.99 each on DVD and Blu-ray through this Saturday."

    • You would assume though that eventually stock will run out and shipping dates will get longer

  • Nice, just placed my order.

  • lord of the ring movies in blu ray are $7.99 as well!

  • Well I was upset I missed Batman Begins and The Dark Knight for $4.99US each, but they just put them up again woot, got Predators for $9.99US aswell.

    • Predators is region-A locked, unlike the batman movies. (and not reviewed so well, either)

But it does come with a "digital copy", which is probably low-res and/or DRM-ed so badly it's easier to rip the blu-ray or torrent it.

Anyway, got my batmen, and a bunch of other stuff. "Vampire Diaries season one" for the niece, and my xmas shopping is done.

Bargain region-free Blu-ray suggestions: Watchmen, The Departed, Fight Club, Taken

  • just as a note, I've gotten shipping confirmation with Amazon, estimated delivery is the 7th of January, 2011. So if you're looking for a quick christmas present, you might want to look elsewhere.

    • Like Amazon UK. They post very quickly, and shipping is fast.
Does Amazon US over-estimated the shipping time as much as Amazon-UK does?

      • You're right, but I suspect in this case the two biggest factors are 1) the sheer volume of orders that Amazon will be getting from this special and other Black Friday deals, plus 2) this is the worst time for postage since everything is slowed down due to the volume of mail.

It's possible they're really over-estimating just in case, we'll see. Luckily I don't NEED to have it before Christmas. Strangely enough though when I first placed my order (before I got shipping confirmation) they said it would be delivered between December 22-24 2010.

  • if your looking for quick post, then dont use amazon regular post - it can take more than 1 month sometimes. but the items always arrive, and are well packed. ive used it plenty of times and never had a problem, im not in a rush to get the dvd's either so that helps.

also they have terminator 2 remastered blu ray for $10 :)

  • Got my order in the day the deal was posted, dispatched 27th nov, and estimated delivery date is 7th dec.

Price seems to have gone up to USD$13.99 for each season as of Monday morning. :(

    From emails;
    "Mad Men: Season Three [Blu-ray]"
    Previous estimated arrival date: December 16 2010 - December 24 2010
    New estimated arrival date: December 13 2010 - December 14 2010
    Not to bad.

    "Mad Men: Season One [Blu-ray]"
    "Mad Men: Season Two [Blu-ray]"
    Previous estimated arrival date: December 16 2010 - December 24 2010
New estimated arrival date: December 10 2010 (site actually has it at 9th)
Not bad for such a great deal.

  • Crap……I got delivered the DVD boxset instead. Wrote in to Amazon and they only refunded my money and ask me to reorder again. NOT HAPPY.

    Is it only me?

    • That sux ktks.. Amazon emails advised my season 2 and 3 Mad Mens shipped on 2nd and 3rd December, not received as yet but can't be far off. Shipping emails definitely both say Blu-Ray but will see what turns up.
