Sony 55'' X9000E 4K HDR TV $1,476 C&C (Or Metro +$35 Delivery) @ The Good Guys

770
TV20

Greetings everyone, I noticed this deal a few days ago was quite popular, and now it has gotten even better! If you combine with discounted gift cards, it makes it even better! Waiting to see if cash rewards is payable, that would net an extra 2.5% also if purchased online.

It's even cheaper than the recent Bing Lee deal which was only accessible in NSW/VIC from what I can tell.

From what I can tell, there is a lot of stock nationwide, delivery cost seems to be $35 in Metro.

As always, enjoy!

Thank you to jainp for the Original Deal Post

  • Where are discount gift cards available from?

    • +1

You can get them from a few different sources, the best free option is 5% off from Cash Rewards from what I can tell, TA says testing has given gift cards fairly quickly.

      • +1

No Good Guys option though is there?

        • +2

Ohh damn, you're right… There is other paid options like RACQ rewards and other rewards programs. This wiki goes over all the programs. A $26 membership to RACQ would still net a saving of $48 once using the gift cards, they're usually instantaneous.

        • +1

According to the wiki, you can get them for free through the Secure Parking portal.

        • @Zak:

Unfortunately that promo has already ended..

        • @doweyy: Hmmm. Guess the wiki needs updating.

        • @doweyy: That's good, already purchased without the gift card option so don't want to find out that I could have saved more now.

  • The cash back ended yesterday. The first line of Ts & Cs:
"To be eligible, customers must purchase an eligible product as listed below (‘Product’) on sale between 30 November 2017 to 13 December 2017 inclusive"

    • Thanks for the update, missed that one, think it was ineligible as well because it says full priced items only, have removed.

  • This is the same as the 900e, only Australian version

    • Gets bloody good reviews too.
      Comparable to OLED.
      Hmmm.

      • No Dobly Vision though if it matters to anyone

        • +1

          True. Damn.
Might just wait for a good OLED price, as I have been doing for ages.

        • @theguyrules:
same I was going to get it, if I'm missing HDMI 2.1 i would atleast like dolby vision

        • @theguyrules:

Don't count it so soon kiddies, there is an update in the process which is rumored to include HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

        • @Zorn: Don't all dolby vision tv's support hdr10+?? So why make something new, just get dolby vision and you're covered.

  • +1

Think m going to pull the trigger today via a price match with HN..hv the amex offer saved on my 2 cards…wud hv ideally liked to wait till boxing day - but wud be away travelling - don't wana take a chance and stress out during Holiday time…

    • HN had $100 gc with this TV till yesterday… Not sure whether instore purchase still got it

    • Are Boxing Day sales historically a great time to shop for TV's?

This deal looks great, but can definitely wait until Boxing Day if you think it is potentially worth it to do so.

    • Will Harvey Norman definitely price match this?

      • I would hope so!!otherwise m nt buying..lol

        • Can you please update on result? Cheers

        • @whatovit: definitely mate!

        • @whatovit: PRICE MATCHED..now gonna go to the store and try using the price match amount and split payment over 2 cards as v can't split on online purchases…
if the store doesn't agree then gotta try buying the GC and buy online

  • +2

Deal just went live actually, no need to wait till 4pm. Nevermind, back to not working again.

  • this or similarly priced 65"?

I really only use this for the odd game (XBone) or watching movies with the kids.

I was thinking of getting a HiSense 65" for similar money but will go for this if the reasons are for it.

    thanks in advance for suggestions.

    edit: like this for example

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hisense-65-inches164cm-uhd-le…

    • +1

Even though only 55". The quality if these models are phenomenal. Don't settle for the hisense.

    • The Series 7 HiSense is the one to go for, not this Series 6 model. The HiSense 55/65N7 got rave reviews (google it), and you should be able to get the Series 7 for around $1,500 if you're patient - check previous deals on the 65N7 published on OzB

      • ended up getting 55N7. Awesome TV but not android so no custom apps.

Only two things that really irk me is that I can't map a samba/netbios share and no ABC iView

  • This or LG OLED?? more than $700 price difference.. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • My struggle too.

      • +1

Was comparing this yesterday at JB, this x9000 picture quality was really good compare to LG OLED

        • Yeah, I get the feeling this would be an excellent TV.
I actually really love Android TV too. And having a Chromecast built in is nice.

        • +1

Stuff it. I'm getting this one.

        • +2

Just realise that comparing LCD to OLED in a bright showroom is a bit unfair as plays to LCDs only strength over OLED (brightness). I'd bet if you compared them in a dimly lit lounge room, there would be a much more noticeable difference in OLEDs favour. So if you are going to watch TV in a brightly lit room and can't see much difference between them in the shop, then I'd go with LCD. But if not, and you want the best picture quality, I would seriously consider OLED.

        • @Ryballs:

Good point.. However, my room have a wall size window, so this not good for OLED?

        • @charisma:

Is the window shining directly on the screen or is it behind the TV?

        • @Ryballs: behind the TV

        • @charisma:

          Then you're fine.

        • @Ryballs: Thanks mate

        • @theguyrules:
I bought one a few months ago. Great tv, even fat looks great. Tv has had an update since we bought it, no idea what the update was for.
Netflix looks so good, even with our slow adsl.
4k movies, wow. Try guardians of the galaxy 2 , terrible movie but gee it looks good, the first 10 minutes at the gold planet. Wow again.

    • Go for OLED mate, it supports HDR, HGL, HDR+, Dolby Vision etc. Its a future proof. Also, Sony will get dead slow withing couple of months and webOS is far better and intuitive than android.

      • +3

Sony will get dead slow withing couple of months

Nope. Current Sony Android TV is just as fast as the day I got it. Worst case, you need to clear out the cache in Android.

webOS is far better and intuitive than android.

For general TV usage, maybe, but Android TV is far more powerful and avoids the need for extra boxes for stuff like Kodi.

    • +1

      OLED, 100%

    • If you are playing games, the X9000E is better than the OLED as the OLED has image retention problems.
      Please google search.
      Cheers

      • +1

The LG OLEDs are pretty much unanimously considered the absolute best TV for gaming, so I wouldn't say that's true.

        • +1

Yes. That's what I thought. I was also an OLED fanboy … The OLED is awesome no doubt but it is not there yet.
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhgC3cfC4Eo
This is OLED vs QLED however checkout the image retention.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1r02vQMxHA

          X90E = Au X9000E

Edit: It is OK IMO if you casually game on the OLED. If you are full on - the X9000E destroys it

        • +1

@vinni9284: Thanks.. yup 90% will use for gaming with X or pro, 10% for Netflix. never watch FTA as I don't have access to aerial antenna in my room.

        • @charisma: Then this TV is for you. FYI it is also 120Hz panel

        • @vinni9284:

I've been gaming on my OLED for 3 years. If there is any IR I haven't noticed it.

        • @Ryballs:

How many hours per week do you game?
Do you change your games continuously? (Differing HUD's will minimize retention)

Btw, There are heaps of articles discussing image retention issues on the OLED

        • @vinni9284:

We use the TV for about 70/30 gaming/video. The only game we play is Overwatch on Xbox One. Total average playtime is about 4 hours per day (wife and I both play around 2 hours each). We play the same few characters every time, with the same HUD.

Never really had a problem with IR. I mean I did see it once or twice in the first year but it quickly went away. I think it's an non-issue for most people and not something that you'll really notice in everyday use. While I'm being blown away by jaw-dropping infinite contrast, the last thing I'm thinking is 'hey did I just see that logo's faint after-image for a few milliseconds too long while on a white background?'.

The new fandangled generation of OLEDs have even better IR/burn-in protection than my lowly second gen model. As long as you look after your panel and don't do anything stupid such as leaving a static image on max OLED light for a week or skip the compensation cycle by turning off at the wall, you'll be fine.

Overall I think LGs OLEDs really are the best TVs for gaming. As well as their amazing picture quality, they also have much better response time than any LCD and lower input lag than anything from Sony or Samsung.

        • +1

          @vinni9284:

Normally these issues are not typical of regular OLED usage. LG OLED's are designed with anti burn-in protection, and models left on for 18 hours a day, weeks at a time, still do not display permanent burn in. Rtings.com are currently testing screen burn in on OLED, Plasma and LCD. On Week 4 of constant use image retention becomes noticeable and only at Week 9 of constant use, has burn in become a problem. That's 9 WEEKS of 20 hours per day usage.

Image retention can be more prevalent on an OLED, but the TV runs a screen wash program as soon as it is turned off to get rid of this. And where it does hover on the screen, a serviceman can be called out to run a wash program to clean the screen up. Permanent 'burn in' is not only very rare, but typical with non-intended use. This means people calibrating their screens to run MUCH Brighter than they were intended to be used, and people who switch off their TV's at the power point or run plug breakers which does not allow the TV to run the wash program while it is off.

its almost 2018, time to do away with LED/LED and move on to more future proof technology mate.

    • Oleds look great in store. Real world viewing you risk black banding, colour banding, image retention and some very poor motion. Please be careful and make sure you are 100% happy woth oled bedore you purchase.

  • I've been (im)patiently waiting for boxing day to get this TV, with price determining whether I go for the 55" or the 65"

With this discount, the 65" is $2316, $840 more than the 55" Decisions, decisions……….

I wonder why this exact model was excluded from the JB 20% off Sony TV's promotion

  • My question is regards the Android connectivity? Does this have full access to Google Play and third party unauthorised app sources like Aptoid? More importantly can APK's be opened and installed from downloaded files?

I subscribe to a swiss TV streamer, the app can only be used with a Swiss IP address, Getflix gets around this for me.
So basically does this smart TV do everything that my Android TV boxes/phones can?

My current Sony is also 'smart', it's crap really as you have to live with the apps they want you to have.

    • Yep you can sideload stuff.

      • Thanks any idea about whether you can control Android apps with airmouse type controllers via one of the USB inputs?

        • +1

You can use a USB wireless mouse yeah

        • There's also an Android app by Sony for remote control (Video & TV SideView).

  • Sounds perfect - thanks.

  • $1845.00 for me :S how do I get the $1476 price?

    • Coupon code starts at 4PM so you've just got to wait until then to buy.

    • wait till 4PM..log back..open the link again>>punch in the code…and!!!

    • Oh thanks guys, might buy one today when it hits 4pm. Cheers.

Anyone know how this compares with the Samsung UA55MU9000? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/349211

    • My understanding is the Sony is slightly better.

  • +1

Code is working again. Just bought one.

  • I think OLED are little too premature now, like when Plasmas was first out.
They suffer from burn-in right? (as opposed to LED)

    • Unfortunately they do (all do), but not all to the same extent. Plus OLED is still in it's infancy and also because it is an organic material, it does dull over time.

      • I don't have any burn-in on my 3 year old OLED. As long as you look after your TV and use some common sense, you'll be fine.

  • How long is the sale?
My RACQ gift card is processing…

    • Sale goes until midnight, if you’re fretting a bit give them a call on 1300 220 966 to try and get it sped up.

      • Yeah just gave them a call, it CAN take up to 72 hours apparently.
Will have to nervously keep an eye out.
The gift card would be useless to me if the sale ends.

        • Damn I’m going to be annoyed at myself if it doesn’t go through in time, I’m praying for you, there’s still quite a bit of time! Maybe just ask them to cancel it and refund just in case to make sure you’re 100% sure you’ll get this price?

        • @doweyy: I guess worst case I put down a deposit for the tv!
          Thanks mate

        • +1

          @theguyrules:

I’m sure TGG would let you rain check at this price if it’s a definite sale with the gift card and a deposit :) They’re usually good with that sort of stuff from what I’ve noticed.

        • @doweyy: now it’s out of stock at the store I wanted to pick up from.
Seems like it’s not meant to be…

        • @theguyrules:

they cant order in for u?

        • @spoonmugen: didn’t ask. I ordered from a slightly further away store.

    • How long they processing the gift card?

      • Placed the order an hour ago.
I called and theres no guarantee that it'll be done before they close today (30 minutes) so I asked them to cancel the order, and I will either pay cash for it and forfeit the discount or pay the deposit and order a gift card that covers the rest.

        • Thanks for the info

  • Howdy Folks - Is this the best TV i can get for this money? I have been looking, but I'm so lost with it all. Cheers

    • +2

      Yep easily

    • +2

      Yes.

At a cheaper price point than this you would be looking for a good Chinese branded panel (Hisense is popular on OzB). More expensive, you would most likely be looking at an OLED TV.

  • Videopro have this for $1596 https://www.videopro.com.au/p-10959-sony-bravia-55-kd55x9000…

Any chance of pricematch + discount?

    • You could try to, I didn’t want to mention anything about price matching and using the discount as it’s very speculative, but always worth a try.

  • +3

Noticed the Panasonic 55EZ950 OLED is $2495 minus the 20% comes to $1996. I think this is the best price i have ever seen on this tv.

    • That sounds like a damn good price, you should post it :)

    • Bargain.

I bought the Sony 9000 a few months back.

But I did want a Panasonic as our old plasma was so good and reliable. Unfortunately Panasonic only had a low end LCD or the oled you mention. The oled was around $3000 way over what I wanted to pay. $1996 I would have bought.

  • pulled the trigger on this one! Finally going to be 4K at my place!!!!

  • +1

Pulled the trigger here as well.. HN store is doing the same price without any hassle.Got it for 1276 using the amex offer…glad didn’t pull the trigger with the bing lee ebay deal…

    • Awesome price for an awesome TV. I bought it in the recent Bing Lee ebay sale for $1438 and did not think it would return to this price anytime soon.

    • Mind telling what the Amex offer was?

  • Pulled the trigger

  • Just bought this tv two days ago from The Good Guys for $1660. Trying to figure out how to submit their 30 day price guarantee claim form but its telling me "No approved retailer found for this docket. Please try a different docket number." and I can't upload evidence to show Harvey Norman has it priced for $1476 as well.

Does anyone know how this thing works?

    • yeah i tried it once with a washing machine and couldnt.
