Great deal! I remember paying $160 for one a year back. Have had no issues with them and only recently they increased their max speed from 10Mb/s to 12Mb/s.

Don't forget you can get a free month if you use a referral link.

    • Mine's gone from 10 Mbps to 2 Mbps. There's something weird in my neighbourhood. Who am I gonna call?

      • Every two or three months, I do notice sometimes my speed decreases to 4-5Mb/s but it goes away after a modem restart. You can also call up their customer support which I've found to be quite efficient.

        • I have done restarts, and that seems to help. I never tried calling their support line though. Good call. I'll try that.

    • I called their support team (which is Optus, btw) and they couldn't tell me you'd get a free month. How and where you can get a referral link? Is it during the activation of the product?

Absolutely love this company and the internet from them :)!

    • How much did you buy your Faraday cage for?

      • It's called a garage. I don't remember.

How long did you read the peer-reviewed studies for? Faraday cages are inpractical when on-the-go. C'mon, everyone knows that.

Yep. Vivid Wireless saved me after NBN stuffed up my connection (still don't have NBN connection after 3 months)
Speed is capped to around 11Mbps but unlimited data. I get the full speed but my 4G signal is pretty good (They use Optus)

One minor problem. The speed is sometimes throttled when using NZB (and possibly torrents) to around 1Mbbs without using a VPN.

So that's why it's faster with a VPN! Thanks, mate. Learning something new every day. :)

        • VPNs can often be slower as they add another layer (encrypted tunnel) possibly to another location/country. Only helps if the ISP throttles certain protocals (btw, just did a torrent dload without a VPN and at full ISP speed).

I mainly used the VPN to watch USA Netflix before it came to AU. AU Netflix is pretty good now. Haven't had a need for a few months.

        • @MojoMiwo: But a VPN can also helps if like Telstra if they prioritise VPN traffic.

  • Are these SIM locked? If so, can they be unlocked?

Does anyone know of I can use my Optus data sim on this?

    • +1

      No, tried that.

      • Yeah. They're locked, which is unfortunate. Can't even flash it, I think.

Can I use a normal optus data sim in this modem? Does anyone know what model the modem is or what bands it support?
    Thanks

Im pretty sure you cant use your own sim it comes with an in built sim inside the modem

Wonder if this would give me faster speeds than my copper connection (2.5km away from exchange). There's a cell tower 400m away from my house lol

  • Anyone knows how to unlock this modem. Firmware need to be flashed,it's Huwaei model.Have SIM slot.
