You tinfoil about everything. You know you don't have to buy it, but for those of us who already know our info is out there whether we like it or not, at least we can get some use out of it.

Plenty don't know. That subpercentage of the population needs to be reached. Feel free to ignore my downvoted posts.

While you are using ozbargain your iP is being monitored. But you are still here. Aren’t you worried about that?

        • @Jimmy007:
          No. Any other questions?

@cheepwun: if google started selling tin foil hats, would you be interested in one? Or would there be a new conspiracy theory coming up?

        • -3

          @Jimmy007:
Please look up the definition of conspiracy theory and see how it relates to peer-reviewed studies on microwaves.

Everyone knows we make our own hats. These softball questions don't even get answered in the Cheepwun Fan Club Kit: they are so obvious. I suspect you are another time-waster more interested in insulting the messenger than being told what you are so used-to using is causing you harm.

In fact I know you are.

Can't believe I thought it was a bargain when I paid $63 for it a month ago :-(

Anyone been able to get this price at any other store? Or pricematched?

    • +1

Yes! I couldn't believe my local HN had them at $59 3 days ago, walked in today they were $79!
So I showed him $49 at Chadstone VIC and he rang them up to ask and they confirmed.
So he priced it down to $49 saying quote "Our stores throw away money"I thought hmmm the saps paying $79 will make it back for poor HN.

They will be free soon. Google really wants these in houses. It's good for google. There's money in your personal information.

Google will drop the price of these further when Alexa comes out next year

I'm not convinced it'll get cheaper than this. $49 doesn't seem unreasonable by any stretch.

The market will be a lot more crowded soon, so it makes sense for them to make a sales push. Launches by Amazon, Apple, and Samsung are all scheduled for the next couple of months.

Microsoft seems to have given up after a token release.

  • Can I use the picture for price match at any HN?

    • looks like you can (see below)

  • Can't believe that I spent more money on food shops at woolies to try get one then be denied..

    • Did you eat the food?

      • Not all some went bad and I threw it out at this rate these devices will be given out

        • Rest in pieces wasted food.

This is why I have resorted to a mix of small budget of groceries and impulse take out for those weak and luxurious moments in my life.

I think my biggest offender is bread and sometimes milk.. that ship moulds fast.

Invest in mie goreng and baked beans and nacho snacks lol.

Next year, Google will be paying you money to have it installed in your home.

  • Just have 89 bucks in my account… Hmm…

No one is buying them? They are in the bin. Not surprised.

Straw poll of one person but in my office this is the hot gift of 2017. They so cheap that everyone seems to have gotten one to gift for Xmas. Including a lot of people who have no clue what it does. Lol.

I got one but payed $53…

  • Considering getting one as a nice novelty assistance feature and secondary Bluetooth speaker. When it gets below $30. Same maybe with chromecast.

Otherwise my tablet for now is fine.

What else can it do besides just ask it questions, play music, update your reminders and calendars etc.. wait can you use it to make calls like on Skype, Google hangouts or discord?

Also what's the daily power usage like? 50W? 100W? 200W?

    • We love our Google Home/Mini's, I have recently installed Lifx A19 globes throughout the house and to be able to turn rooms on and off by voice command is great. The broadcast function is also so much more pleasant than having to bellow through the house that dinner is ready etc, also love being able to look in the fridge/pantry and tell it to add items to my shopping list.

  • It's almost worth the price just for the answer to this: Hey Google, who let the dogs out?

More about what you can do with it here: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/google-home-complete-list-of-com…

  • I'm seeing a lot of these re-sold on gumtree. People aren't hanging onto them?

    • +2

Getting them free with the pixel on plans

      • Ahhhh I see :) makes sense now

  • It is the worst. Google can't do anything. If Google tells me I have to get youtube red again i'm going to burn my google home. I'm assuming google mini is just a bad with a worse speaker.
