Hey everyone,

New-ish guy here and hoping to start my first (proper) OzBargain contribution with a bang.

In my Telstra 24x7 Dashboard I saw that I could add a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0" LTE with 1GB data on a plan for just $15/mth ($360/24mth).

Competition (on contract):

Optus - 2GB data @ $25/mth ($600/24mth)
Vodafone - 1.5GB data @ $23/mth ($552/24mth)

Purchasing the tablet outright seems to be around the ~$369 mark. But do remember this includes data AND you get data-free streaming of AFL/NRL/Netball + 1GB data to use.

    1GB won't get you too far, I know. But for getting the tablet $9 cheaper over 2 years (so no upfront cost), and getting the subscription + 1GB data essentially for free is a good deal. Especially for light users for basic email/web browsing, or a cheap way to get AFL/NRL/Netball imo.

    You can share data, I bought one for my parents for Christmas, they can use my phone data if they go over.

    It'll pool with whatever other phones/mobile broadband plans you've got on your Telstra account.

  A Telstra call centre rep offered me this deal the other day, but he said I would get an additional 5gb of data on top of the 1gb. Maybe worth asking fi they can do this.

    I saw that part in my Telstra 24x7 Dashboard, but I wasn't too sure after I clicked the deal since I was under the impression it would be for the $30/mth, not the $15/mth. So yeah - definitely seconding this!

  I can confirm I've added one of these onto my Telstra contract and they added 5+1 = 6gb data pooled together between my SIMs

      Yep. Less actually. I just wanted an extra SIM (usually $5/mo with no bonus data) and didn't need the Tab so I sold it.

      After selling it, effective cost averaged out over 24 months ended up being about $5-6/mo for 6gb pooled including the second SIM.

    Yep! Last time I signed with Telstra they did a credit check on me.

  This was $5 a month (250mb data) bundled with broadband 2 years ago. No longer available at those prices :(

  A lot of people get this deal and sell the tablet - hence the oversupply of new/as new Galaxy A tablets selling for around $200 on EBAY

  Thanks OP - just got one. Had just run out of contract last month on my last Tab A so good timing - I was paying $25/month for 2.5G so this is a bargain for me :)

  Signed up for NBN with telstra yesterday and the guy on the phone was pushing this hard with 6gb data. I couldn't think of a circumstance when I'd use this so said no but I had to say no at least a dozen times. Must get some sort of commission for selling it.
