Free Belong $40 Sim @ JB Hi-Fi & Online at Belong.com.au

2841

Hey Guys, went down to JB Hi-Fi in Bunbury to pick up a few of the belong $40 sim cards for a mate. At the counter the dude is in total shock and says they are free. There is nothing on their website or anywhere else, so I'm not sure about other stores but the one in Bunbury WA is doing it.
Could be a mistake, get on it while you can.

Peace Out

    • Yes.

      • So it's no longer available??

        • +1

Let's hope someone took a screenshot of the promo, albeit the wordings were quite confusing

        • @bonz: The wording is still the same as before, is it not?

Screenshot of the page right now

Still implies you should be getting $40 credit

        • @illumination:
D'oh i was looking at belong.com.au instead of belong.com.au/mobile, thanks for the illumination ;)

  • Have just had a read through all the comments and can't figure this out.

    • If you choose the "Large" plan ($40/mth), are you able to make outgoing calls/text, or is it actually data only?
    • If you choose the "Regular" plan ($25/mth), you have the option to use up $10 of the remaining $15 credit to make international calls, in addition to unlimited local calls/text?
    • When using a Credit Card to activate a SIM, does the Card get debited an amount of money (either as a pre-authorisation or otherwise)?
    • +1

      @ illumination

      Both plans are data only.

If you want calls/txt it's another $5 per month.
-for international calling it's another $5 on top again. ie:$35 or $50 in total.

Regarding charging your card you get a pre-auth
of $1 which drops off in about a week maybe a bit quicker.

just got my card in the mail but noting of the promised 40 bucks lol.
Just another empty card to add to my growing collection but hey came with a new sim tool!
Long long time ago when digital came out Optus sold the recharge kit for 30 and the entire sim kit with 30 card for 25 so I had collected heaps untill a chick called me not to do it again.
Now they tell me to wait and leave sim out till they tell me but download an app so it is like sitting down while waiting for the chair to arrive.

Sounds like just another bite job wonder why they make money in the first place…

    • Complete waste of time for me as well. Went to all the trouble of downloading their horrible ipad app (upscaled iphone app) and can't even enter my address. Used a browser instead only to find out they want to charge me $40.

      • Did you order the Sim from Belong website or get it from JB-HI-FI ?

        • Before Christmas on the website. Only arrived in the mail yesterday.

        • @JIMB0: Just hoping that the ones from JB work myself

      • Probably the 1000 quotas were used up.

        From Belong's web site:
Online only. Available to the first 1,000 customers who get a SIM. Deal ends midnight on 7 January 2018 and may close early if SIM allocation exhausted.

    • I got my card in the mail ~05/01 and it mentions the $40 bucks but it also said you had to activate by 31/12/2017. As mentioned earlier in the comments, it was a long shot that this was ever going to arrive on time. However I possibly have another sim to port my data over to..maybe not

  • +1

So no-one who ordered from the website was able to get any credit?

    • Would like to know the same.

andylch's assumption that the 1000 quota was used up sounds plausible.

Still haven't received my Belong SIM that was ordered before Xmas

      • Same here.

        • Recd mine today…
          Ordinary post envelope.

        • @snappy1234: OK it arrived today. Packet says $40 free credit if activated before 31/12/2018 so I assume it's one of the lucky 1000. Interesting thing was the text below the 15GB bonus had been blacked out with marker. I assume that was the expiry date of the bonus.

Won't be activating it soon though, still have offers active.

        • @greenpossum: Did you get a sim tool? I didn't :(

        • @Batboy: What's a SIM tool? All I got was the packet in a plain envelope.

        • @greenpossum: something like this

Was your sim pack slightly opened? Mine was.

        • +1

@Batboy: No, nothing like that. The packet was slightly coming apart but that may have been just prior handling. Also the packet is basically two pieces of cardboard stuck together, don't see how they could fit a SIM tool in there. I've never needed a SIM tool for my phones.

        • +1

          @Batboy:
You may have been thinking about card adapter packs having a sim-tray tool, which they do.

I'm sure that you've found a pin or small needle to do the job, by now.
If not, here's something cute to the point of adorable to very surely assist in getting you through this extremely challenging time…

          Stay strong. :)

    • +2

No credit, says I'll pay $40 today instead of $0 (as per hetzjagd's screenshot). I tried activating this on the 3rd.

      • Have you contacted Belong for assistance?

        • +1

No, I gave up at that point since I assumed the 1000 customer limit was reached so they gave me a sim with no value instead.

        • +2

@DuckKnight: heads up! you can still sell the sim tool on ebay lol

  • Can you still get it free from jb hifi?

    • Was told by JB staff that the Belong $40 first month free data sim promotion at JB-HI-FI ended December 31st 2017.

But the 7th of January has been quoted from the Belong website so maybe try ringing a few JB's and talking to the telco person to double check .?

  • Got mine 2day from website order…

    Asking $40 2 activate account…. :(

  • +1

I must confess to not being able to stop myself, and ordered one from the Belong web site on 23/12/17. It arrived today, and the wording on the front side of the packaging is identical to those that I got via the internal promo, viz:

    • "A dataful gift to get you started"
    • "$40 Free Credit when you join"
    • "$40 gets you 15GB / month"
    • "Plus 15GB welcome gift if you join before 31/12/17"

ie; It's a bit different to the one that I have that came from JB Hi-Fi, which is as per the OP's photo. The wording on the flip side of both types is identical, including "Your credit will be applied if you set up and connect a new service with this SIM before 31/12/18". But there are some differences:

    • The barcode on the top right of the one from JB's is 0 076750 245077. (The others are 1BELK040002.)
    • The barcode associated with the SIM card on the one from JB's is waaaayyyy longer, at 30 digits. (The others are only 9 digits.)
    • The code on the bottom right of the one from JB's is BELRCLK007.(The others are BELRCLK009.)

To those that are being asked to stump up $40 to conect, what does your packaging look like, and did you request one via the correct link ("Get Deal"), or just click on "Get a SIM"?

    • I got this package too. sad we cant get the extra 15gb bc it arrived after the 31/12/17 ):

  • just to add:
Set up your plan and connect by 31/12/2018
i will need this ozbargin page to look at when i activate later in the year

  • My sims still haven't arrived after I ordered them on the 22nd of December!

  • +5

Mine arrived Friday 5th January by post. Came with $40 credit. I activated and immediately got 30GB. On 12th January the $40 credit that I got for free will be used to add another 15GB data.

I activated using Paypal. I authorised Belong to have the ability the take money out. So far they have taken out just $1 which will be returned in a few days. After they do that I will login to Paypal and cancel the authorisation allowing Belong to withdraw money.

Next payment after that will be due on Feb 12th ($40) but that will fail because I will have cancelled authorisation by then.

    • Thankq

    • I also activated using PayPal. But it was linked to bank account so didn't see any amount deducted. Does the pre-authorisation only happen to card?

Edit: I can see the $1 pending in PayPal but nothing happening to the linked bank account.

      • With Paypal I have it linked to my card and not bank account. Maybe that explains why things are slightly different. Maybe the $1 thing will disappear in a few days.

    • Do you run the risk of them accusing you of owing them $40 and passing your info on to debt collectors or doing something to mess with your credit rating? Or is it safe because the data/plan is charged in advance so if they can't make the charge you don't end up using anything that they can say you owe them for?

      • Looks like ya just get cut off

        https://www.belong.com.au/support/mobile/billing-and-payment…

If your payment is overdue for your Belong mobile service, we'll notify you by SMS and then email.

If we don’t receive your outstanding payment within 10 days from your monthly payment due date, your data speeds will be slowed to 64kbps and any call and text add-ons will be suspended. You’ll still be able to receive calls and text and make calls to emergency (000 and 112).

If we haven’t received your outstanding payment within 25 days from your monthly payment due date, your service will be suspended and you’ll lose all your banked data at that point.

If your service has been suspended or limited due to non-payment, you’ll need to connect via Wi-Fi or use another device to access the Belong app or website.

  • Ordered one before the timing deadline, not sure it's within the first 1000 or not, the website says successful, and wait now. :)

  • Got given one from JB buying a camera, don't need a sim now, does the $40 credit still work in a couple of months?

    • If your SIM pack says $40 free credit when you join, I think it will be free and work until the end of 31/12/2018. Activate when you need it, cancel a few days before the due date.

  • Despite this being "free $40 credit" they charged me $25 on activation but I then got $40 credit in my account.

    • +1

That is not good. This is different to other people. So before you entered payment method it displayed Credit remaining after this purchase as $15?

You should have $0 paid today on the summary page like the user above:-
      https://imgur.com/CAAv4IE

I would contact support and request refund as had credit.

      • No credit was mentioned anywhere. I ordered by post on the day of this post.

        • That was what I done too, ordered by post similar time and only received in WA a few days ago. You must have been unlucky not having the free credit as this was limited to first 1000.
When I went to sign up yesterday, once I had entered the SIM number from the pack and before I selected the plan it displayed "you Have $40 credit" (also 15GB free).

Not sure why you got the $40 after then and that is annoying that you had to pay but least you do get a month free.

  • Seems like no longer free at JB Hi-Fi. Tried to "buy" one (expecting it to come up at $0) yesterday at Chatswood, NSW.

  • +1

OK finally got around to activating one of these that I got in the mail. Definitely tried to take $40 out as an starter payment. The only offer seemed to be a welcome gift of 15 GB.
    Into the bin it goes!

    • +1

The free sim tool is worth keeping.

    • Bummer, 1,000 free credit offer is not many really (seeing there was over 5600 clicks on Ozbargain alone at the time of posting and all the people how shop in JBhifi around the country).
You will have to wait for the next Kogan free (or few dollar) offer..

      • +1

Yes, reading here it seems that some people got lucky and were sent the $40 promotional pack, but for those of us that got the standard Belong blue envelope with no $40 deal printed on it - it's just an empty SIM that comes with free SIM tool.
Never mind! There's always another free or near free deal just around the corner

  • A few arrived in mail today.
    23/12 ordered.
    Just ported over from Optus.
Need to add $5 for calls but me did not.

Activated with an old no balance Visa prepaid card.

    15gb ok
    App ok
    Not too bad on Telstra.

  • +1

also ordered before Christmas, arrived last week.
activated this morning, 30gb showing in account (You'll receive your next 15GB mobile data allowance on 20 January)
also used a old no balance visa prepaid card.
    cheers

    • Free activation with $40 credit on it?

  • Activated my SIM today and got 45GB added to my account and a notification saying another 15GB will be added on the 28th of January. I My $40 drew credit card successfully applied so only paid $5 and my account says $0 is due for he next payment.

  • +1

Is there any option to stop the recharge? I can't see any option other than doing it in PayPal

    • +1

Seems to stop a recharge either port out or send a message through their webpage requesting to close the account. If you gave them your PayPal details then you can login to paypal and cancel any future payments.
