Free Belong $40 Sim @ JB Hi-Fi & Online at Belong.com.au

2841

Hey Guys, went down to JB Hi-Fi in Bunbury to pick up a few of the belong $40 sim cards for a mate. At the counter the dude is in total shock and says they are free. There is nothing on their website or anywhere else, so I'm not sure about other stores but the one in Bunbury WA is doing it.
Could be a mistake, get on it while you can.

Peace Out

They have them in Belconnen ACT JB if anyones interested. There's $1 "terminal 2" name tag on the other side of the queue next to the checkout. Need to make a purchase in order to get it free otherwise it costs $40 as others have said.

The woman was happy to ring up two seperate $1 transactions for me without having to line back up. I only got a 2nd for my friend who lives far from any JB.

I asked if they have been getting asked for them a lot and she said no and that they have had this promo for about a week. I did not ask stock level but they didnt give any indication they were running out

  • Bondi Junction- has heaps but they want a purchase before they give out

  • Can anyone confirm after the activation? It looks like you will still need to pay $40 for the first month but you will get 30GB instead of 15GB.

    • +4

I see what you mean, it looks ambiguous. I'm in the sign up process and it's showing me this screen https://i.imgur.com/1sFM8m1.png

Surely it cannot be just an additional 15gb - these JB sim cards sell for $40..that should be the first month paid for right there. I'm feeling too anxious and nervey to proceed through the sign up process and give them my card details as I haven't got one of those spare cards people use.

      • It says you have $40 credits to use. I think the amount will be deducted at the payment page. Please keep us updated.

      • +6

I have activated and work fine. In the belong website, it shows Next Payment: $0 28 Dec 2017 https://imgur.com/a/7zHn0

        • +4

Cheers for that. Thanks to your help I've just pushed mine through to the next screens and it's now loud and clear that the $40 credit is going towards the first month and there is no charge https://i.imgur.com/CAAv4IE.png

30gb rollover data for free https://i.imgur.com/FSAys4y.png Christmas comes early

It also says "you'll receive your next 15gb mobile data allowance on 28 December" and like your screenshot it says on the Payment page that the next payment on 28 December is $0. 45gb total?

        • @hetzjagd: do you know if it rollovers if you don't pay next month

        • +3

          @hogwarts:

Good question and I have just learned that unfortunately it appears it does not…

How do I cancel my service?

You can cancel your service without any further monthly payments
by submitting a support request through our app, website or
telephone service (see details below) a minimum of 24 hours before
the start of the next monthly payment cycle. If you cancel your
service, we won’t refund any fees that you’ve already paid to us and
your service will stop working within an hour of your request being
          actioned.

          from https://www.belong.com.au/content/dam/belong/downloads/CIS-B…

A way around this for an extra month or two could be that you can gift the data to another account and if you were greedy and got multiple free sims then you could create a new account. Hopefully there is a better way

I've emailed them asking if they expect that customers will continually pay every month even if they aren't using much of their data or if it's possible to pay as needed. I'm pretty sure the answer is no which seems a bit rough but we'll see

Free with no purchase or credit card # required at Carousel.

The SIMs are hanging on the wall in the phone section, with no signage about the promo, but they are free at the checkout.

  • Thanks OP, just got two Sims from JB Hi Fi Australia Fair. The first staff I spoke to is rude and not helping, saying I need to buy some hardware to get a free sim. I thought I'd give it another try at the counter, so I grad a PS4 game and got two Sims for free at the counter.

    • saying I need to buy some hardware to get a free sim. I thought I'd give it another try at the counter, so I grad a PS4 game and got two Sims for free at the counter.

Looks like they won. The two SIMs cost you a PS4 game.

Tried many stores such as JB, 7-11, Coles and no one has any. Not sure if the staff are hiding it or some of these stores don't stock it as on their website it says selected stores only!

      Username checks out

      • Definitely needhelp and glasses. It's only JB Hi-Fi and not valid neg.

        • -1

On their website it shows other participating outlets as well, maybe you need glasses to be able to see that for yourself?

        • @NEEDHELP:
Maybe you need to stop mentioning the glasses and need to re-evaluate your neg vote as rarely people want to post the bargain?

    • +1

Got two at Osborne Park in WA - asked at checkout "yep they're free". Told the grandparents to go and get a few but got told their local JB Hifi that they had to buy something to get the free Sim cards…..what a sham.

      • but thanks to the original poster - great pickup

  • +2

There is a whole wall on the right full of these sims at cairns central. Picked up two, 0$

  • The jb I went to had a sign up saying double data 30gb but couldn't see any other info

  • Stock is available at Garden City QLD store. Free sim is only available if you buy at least one non-identical item (otherwise the checkout counter will charge $40 when barcode is scanned). One sim per person only.

  • Manager at JB said that I must activate today to get bonus data?
Is the JB deal the same as the online deal, being the first 1000 activated before 7/1/18 ?
Will these packs be free till 31stDec or the 7thJan?
    With 15,30or 45 GB ?

  • I got 2 at the Elizabeth St store in Melbourne CBD today and there were lots there.

  • +2

Guy at JB Hi-Fi enex handing out free 30gb packs. Didn’t ask for the details.

  • JB Tuggerah Fair NSW mobile phone dept had plenty but insisted on a hardware purchase first. Rude as hell… Not the place to buy your next phone from.

    • +2

We're very generous on giving you this free 30gb data worth of $69 monthly RRP (we have lose some money from this) but you need to buy some stuff from us to cover the "lost" as we lose some money from this deal (Bollocks meter overload)

      • Costs them ?
        Ordered online… problem fixed.

Looks like Belong works on a fixed payment cycle of the 28th of each month.

I would recommend not activating until the 29th Dec.

Edit: cancelling your plan stops your SIM from working at all. So there's no way to use the SIM without paying $40 unless you hold off activating it.

    • +1

Looks like Belong works on a fixed payment cycle of the 28th of each month.

They obviously have several dates throughout the month. The four that I've activated so far, starting in October, I've actived on the 16th, 17th or 19th of the month, and was allocated the 20th on all of them.

I would recommend not activating until the 29th Dec.

I would activate it when you need it, without worrying about the date too much, except for…… It would appear from other posts that the 15GB "welcome gift" still applies, even if it doesn't say so on the pack. The "welcome gift" packs that I have all say "if you join before 31/12/17". So activating prior to 31/12/17 will score you an extra 15GB. Activating after that date, I don't know.

Edit: cancelling your plan stops your SIM from working at all. So there's no way to use the SIM without paying $40 unless you hold off activating it.

No, you can definitely score yourself 45GB in total to use within the first month, for free, if you activate by 31/12/17 and cancel before your billing date comes around for the second time. After 31/12/17 you'll still score 30GB in total if the "welcome gift" offer isn't extended, and 45GB if it is.

Trust me, I've been doing this for a couple of months. See my post on the first page if you want a bit more detail.

      • +1

Sorry, I missed your other post. I was wrong and the first "payment" will come out of the "credit" as you say.

"…you just activated your SIM Card yesterday, 23 December 2017 and this is actually the reason why your billing cycle will always be the 28th of the month. We cannot change your billing cycle as this is depending on the date you've activated your SIM Card. We have 4 billing cycle here in Belong Mobile, the 4th, 12th, 20th, and the 28th of the month. Since you've activated your service on the 23rd, your billing cycle should fall on the 28th. Meaning, from 23 December 2017 until 27 December 2017, you already have a full access to your plan - data allowance, any selected add-ons, and bonus data. And since you bought your SIM Card in a retail store, the $40 amount that you've paid for it will be credited your account. That will serve as your first payment, and that $40 will be taken out on your account on the 28th of December 2017. It only means that we're not going to charge you on your chosen payment method yet because you still have a $40 credits on your account. We'll start charging you on your chosen payment method on the 28th of January 2017."

        • No worries, all good. :)

At this point in time you should be sitting on 30GB (less any usage), and you'll get another 15GB on 28/12/17. Just remember to cancel or port out prior to 28/1/18 (they made a typo obviously). Prior to cancelling / porting out, you can optionally "gift" any remaining data (whole GB only) to any other Belong number…. which could be yourself if you pick up another free pack. ;)

      • Hi does it require ID to activate

        • Credit card or PayPal apparently.
I used one pre-paid visa debit from the post office with no credit on it to activate two sims, using two different email addresses
Assuming it will auto cancel when they go to charge me ,as there seems to no option to cancel the service using the app.?

        • @Beach Bum:

Alternative method- Port away just before charge goes thru (using a $2 Optus/Voda sim )

        • @snappy1234:

What's the point in porting just the number on what is a secondary account/number for everyone here?

        • +1

          @hetzjagd:
Once you port away you don't get charged anything by belong.

It costs $2 for a Voda sim and a bit of your time.😊

      • Thanks for the tips Colin2905, very helpful. Just wanted to know if calling Belong is the only way to cancel? I can't seem to find the option to cancel the service in my account portal.

  • Picked up 6 @ JB Castle Towers came to $240 but with Mix n Match ID 2846 BONUS BELONG XMAS GIVEAWAY less Benefit $240 came to $0. No purchase required

    • +2

Is there a moat around it?

  • +1

Looks like the best way is to present yourself at the counter say you want to buy it, instead of asking it for free…

  • What's the expiry on this one? Can I get this deal but use it next Oct for example?

    • +1

What's the expiry on this one? Can I get this deal but use it next Oct for example?

Sure. Worst case, the expiry date for activation is 31/12/2018.

      • So is this really free or have to buy something at JB hifi before they honour this deal? Bit confused with some of the comments here

        • +1

Just went to the store and got one. staff at counter mentioned have to buy something else, but I said just want to buy this sim only so was given this for free plus receipt.

  • +1

Free sim ejection tool? Hell yeah!

  • +2

Rundle JB says you need to buy a phone, but he could throw it in if I bought something, I think he likes me.

    • Yes, go on….

  • I went to the store, staff at counter mentioned have to buy something like computers, phone, tablet…

  • Got for free but apparently only 1 per customer? Can anyone confirm it's the same elsewhere?

Edit. Nvm policy seems to have better luck than me. I had to ask the staff to get it as they are not on shelf?

  • +7

Got one from Glen Waverley, VIC. Plenty up for grabs just right of the entrance.

Me: puts SIM pack on checkout counter
    Checkout lady: that'd be $40.
Me: Errr isn't it free? sweating and panicking
Checkout lady: Wait it's showing as zero dollars on here. Wouldn't you have to buy something as well?
    Me: Errr…..
Checkout lady: sigh Aaaaanywayyy prints receipt
    Me: Cheers, Merry Christmas!!

I have this Belong SIM activated and connected, however, when I use it in Telstra 4GX WIFI modem, it doesn't work.
    Any advice please

    • Have you unlocked the device and changed APN settings?

      • Is Belong & Telstra on the same network - Telstra network? Do I have to unlock Telstra 4GX WIFI modem?

        • +1

I would say so, more details here for APN settings.

  • I picked up a number of these on each purchase.
They scanned on the till and got them for free.
    One they said activated?

I have read the posts and do you need an amount above $40 on the prepaid card or can you have 10 cents on the prepaid card?

Can you use one prepaid for all activations?

Do you need to activate all the cards before the 31\12\17?

If activated on the 4\1\18 then you need to cancel the card 3 days before the 1\2\2018 via an app to not be charged?

Its 15GB standard or 30GB bonus?

Can we have WIKI or simple instructions on putting this into action and not being charged please?

    • +1

Good idea to have a wiki as many OZBs have multiple of these cards, the wiki should also including instructions on how to use Belong cards on common devices, e.g. Telstra 4GX wifi modem, etc.

  • Paid with paypal got 30gb and says next payment due 28th. If i cancel auto renew subscription in paypal settings will they know and cancel my service data within a couple of hours?

    • Pay with paypal? Free!.

      • you have to choose a credit /debit card or paypal when you go to activate the sim pack

  • are they free to get from coles and office works too? what if you use all your data and the valid payment method fails on renewal do they slow it to 64kbps and u can still use it?

  • Picked up the last one on display at RHTC 2155, unless they have more at the back.
It was crazy inside with the Boxing Day sales …
There were plenty of $25 SIM's left, but no $40 ones…..

  • Is this deal still available today?

    • Just picked one up from my local JB. They did not ask me to buy anything but there was a look of surprise when it was scanned at the register.

  • Yup. Just grabbed one. They also seemed surprised $0.00 at register.

  • Just picked one up, thanks so much OP! The staff knew exactly what it was and did it no questions asked with no purchase needed.

  • Not worth the trouble, must have next month's charge money on cc & very little phone use for $40 , give it a miss, much cheaper elsewhere.

  • +1

There seems to be lot of catch in this deal.

So did it ask for Credit Card details on the activation page?

  • This promo is still going til the 1st , don't let them (JB staff) try to convince you otherwise.

  • Got one today. JB staff said I had to activate in store. Said NO, not ready. Gave me a dirty look and gave it to me. I said do I need to go to counter and he said NO. Like all that Telstra do, on the back of this $40/15GBmth package, under BYO you get to the end and SURPRISE " SIM has no value". At least Kogan offered FREE or $4.90 16GBmth with unlimited Talk/Text, REAL DEALS. No wounder the sales person wanted me to sign up straight away as they would have probably selected Auto Recharge on your Credit/Debit card. Well hope I am wrong but anything branded TELSTRA is never a free ride.

    • +2

u r misinformed its free just activate using paypal or a visa prepaid card like me then gift un used data to another sim pack no. then cancel payment 1 day before your 30 - 37 days free usage is up and repeat process on other sim packs. did anyone get one free at coles or ow?

  • +1

Got some from World Square JBHIFI and the lady said I need to purchase something, told her no I don’t and it’s free on the belong site so if she didn’t want to do it then I’ll just order it online.

She looked shocked and scared n processed it after a guy said so.

  • More free 'burner' sims :)

  • +1

Just got one free from Pitt St, asked to price check he was saying $40 unless you buy something but guy next to him said it was free

  • +1

Noticed the JB guys saying I have to buy a phone or a tablet to get it free when it doesn't seem to be the case. (profanity).

    • Maybe try hit them with a "My friend bought one from here the other day with a $1 purchase. Can I please ask a manager?"

    • Yesterday one shop told me the promo is over , today I got a dozen at one and ten at another.

  • +1

Canberra City JB Hifi still has a fair few of these at least. They're amongst all the gift cards and itunes cards and stuff like that in the little maze where you line up to pay.

On another note, is there something cheap and nasty about the physical nature of these sims? I was out and about and switched out my Aldi sim and put in the Belong one for the second time (first was to test it was activiated and got a connection) and my phone really struggled to recognize it even if I waited at least 30seconds. Had to remove and replug it a couple of times then hey presto. I found after walking 200m back to the Shaver Shop my phone was back to SOS/No Sim mode. Had to remove it and reinsert it in the shop to get it going again. My Aldi one is fine. I look at the back of the Belong sim and it's already marked up along the gold bits. Looked at the back of my Aldi one and it's near spotless. What gives?

    • I had a similar problem with Kogan sims on my phone. What worked for me was to apply a bit of pressure on the sim card so it has more contact on the phone's sim card reader. I slightly dislodged the nano part of the sim so it is thicker when sliding it into place (my phone uses micro sim). Another method I used was placing a piece of foam on top of the sim card then putting the phone cover in place so the foam is pressing between the sim card and the cover.

I went from having the connection drop out repeatedly to being permanently stable using the above method. Please note there's a chance you will damage your sim card reader so only do this if you have a cheap and nasty phone like me.

  • Has anyone managed to connect their SIM? I tried yesterday and it wanted to charge me $40

  • +3

I have 43GB of data left to gift to another Belong user, if anyone would like it.

    • +1

With data gifting can you gift to multiple users? i probably don't need that much, may be 10 or 15 GB, prefer to leave some for others

      • PM me your Belong # and I'll try.

    • Looking at your previous comments it appears you only activated your Belong service a week ago, I'm curious why you want to throw away your data allowance, is there something wrong with Belong that i should be aware of?

      • +2

I only wanted it to be a 4G hotspot for a few days on a family trip.

        • Fair enough : )

        • Received 10GB
          Thank you

  • Is this still working today?

    • Beach Bum above said promo runs till the 1st, perhaps s/he can confirm the source. i only managed to "buy" one, staff said i have to buy something else if i wanted more than one, seeing many others obtained multiple cards I'll boycott this store. Arriving back in Sydney late tonight, i'll try another JB store tomorrow unless someone can confirm the promo is already over.

I also ordered a free SIM from Belong website, their email said "We'll let you know when it's on the way" but i still haven't got any further communication from them, has anybody received theirs yet? not having much hope since the 1000 quota is quite low considering it had been going for some weeks before this post

      • Received mine today but other than double Data wants to charge me $40.

        • Did they send you an advice that the sim is on its way, or it simply turned up?
Also did you click on the "Get the deal" or "Get a SIM" button on the website?

        • @bonz: yes got that. Don’t remember.

        • @bonz:

I clicked on the grey the deal button

        • @wxyz234:
This means i won't be getting anything in the mail

      • Going from what they said in JB it ended at 12pm 31st December 2017
But on the belong website it's saying anything from 7th January to the end of March.
But there's at least two different promotion's going on.
        The website's first 1000 $40sim free+ double data
        JB's free $40 Sim + double data , promo end 31st December.
So hopefully you get free month with 30gb to activate by the end of 2018 or
you had to activate the Sim by 31st 2017 or they charge you but you may still get double data
        ??¿?????.???

        • 2 things i know for sure are:

1 - double data offer had ended at midnight 31/12/2017
2 - JB's sims have $40 credit loaded onto the cards to use as you wish

          The remaining question is

The sim cards sent by Belong have no value loaded on but still get double data if we pay them $40 as reported by wxyz234 ?

  • I received the sim via mail today… but upon trying to activate it, there's no $40 credit… it says agree to pay $40 today… is anyone getting the same message?
