  • Can anyone confirm if the via no 65” is the same as this one?
    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/e-series-2017

    • I don't see any reason to think it would be. The stand and bezel look completely different, so it would be hard to make the argument that it's a rebadged Vizio. Unless you could find info from a credible source that the panel/internals are the same, I'd assume it's nothing alike. :(

i was at big W brickworks market on christmas eve and they had a viano 43" UHD TV for $230 or something crazy. didnt post it due to insufficient quantity to qualify for a deal but there are some serious TV bargains going at big dubs at the moment for anyone looking for a cheapy.

  • Watching the cricket on a viano 50" I picked up for $350 at big w a few months ago and it looks nice have had no problems with it so far.

  • I wanted to jump on the 55" for $399… but my instincts tell me to spend a bit more a get a more reputable brand..

    • Precisely my dilemma this afternoon.
      Jeez I was close but.

The Polaroid ones looked very bad to my eye.

      • I read that on ozbargin last time that the Polaroid ones are bad quality. Have yet to go into a store and have a look for myself

        • the polaroid ones seem a lot smoother than the vianos to me.

  • Good prices. A few months ago I nearly bought that Viano at $479. I ended up getting the Bauhn at ALDI for $449 but this Viano is now the cheapest 55" I ever saw.

    • +1

are the Bauhn tv's any good? I saw them at ALDI a few days ago and was tempted to get one but resisted.

      • In mid-November I got the Bauhn ATV55UHD-1217. We are otherwise happy with it but the sound was annoyingly tinny. My solution was to connect an old set of Logitech 2.1 computer speakers to the headphones socket.

  • The review on Big W states it isn’t good for gaming..how would his go with a PS4?

    • +2

Looking at it for viewing video I think it would be fine. I was very tempted. We have a 5-7 year old 55" Sony Full HD that's still going strong so it's hard to justify but boy was I tempted. But yeah too many unknowns and a couple of warranty and just after warranty horror stories for older models tipped me in the other direction. By bad for gaming I presume it's laggy? (edit: I see from reviews it doesn't do 4k @60 so Xbox One S will refuse to upscale) I didn't look through the menu thoroughly, but I wonder if it even has a game mode? Would need to see some in depth reviews.

  • Hi all, we have had a Dicksmith led 47.5 for nearly 3 years and also got a 55” Viano a year ago from deal here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/281259?page=1#comment.
Both tellies haven’t missed a beat, work perfectly. I haven’t used the 4K on Viano yet, as it’s upstairs and internet is too weak from my Xiaomi box.
I need to use speakers for both tvs, but that is normal for LED TVs.

Okay, so I bought the 65" Viano and I'm surprised so far. First and foremost, I wanted to test the input lag. I couldn't test 4K performance, because I don't have anything capable of outputting it, but here's what I did for 1080p:

    • Downloaded the input lag timer executable from tft.vanity.dk
    • Connected my laptop via HDMI (1080p @ 60hz - upscaled by the TV to 4K)
    • Ran the timer with the screens mirrored, and took photos.

Now obviously there are some caveats - @ 60hz the timer is only visibly ticking over every 17ms, I used a smartphone camera on auto, so the exposure time may span multiple frames, and the test assumes the input lag on my laptop display is zero, which is an untested assumption.

That said, the results seem to be in the vicinity of 20-30ms (-/+ error) which is unbelievable. I've used the same testing methodology for other TVs in store where the staff have been patient enough to let me hook up a laptop and take photos, and the JVC, TCL and Hisense all had results north of 100ms. At some point I'll do it again with the shortest exposure my phone will allow, because I feel like I must be doing something very wrong to have attained such a good result on a homebrand TV - https://pasteboard.co/H1cCI7L.jpg

Anecdotally, I don't feel any difference between this and an old Samsung 4 series with no smarts/interpolation/upscaling and even though I still suck at Rocket League, I certainly don't suck more than before.

My biggest gripe is that there's no pixel doubling for 1080p input. It upsamples everything and the only real control you have is a sharpness setting, so up close it looks janky - in motion at viewing distance it's barely noticeable. I've also had one big red flag where the whole screen turned to a mess of colours with no provocation. Otherwise, very impressed.

    • Thanks for the review.

Am tempted but want to know the PS4 4K capabilities.
Also the screen turning multiple colours isn’t great.
