    Aren't these the same poor quality cables that have been advertised on here before? I bought a pack and almost none of them worked.

      Nope. There had been dodgy microUSB cables in the past, but these Type-C cables are fine.

          Correct. Years ago they had microUSB cables with pins that would get stuck easily. Type-C cables don't suffer that problem. The nylon braided ones are obviously much stronger than the normal ones.

      USB 3.1 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) has a maximum data speed of 5Gbps. Gen 2 is double at 10Gbps.
