  • Can the sim be used in a phone for data only?
Is there fees for going over?

Kids are more interested in data and can use data to make calls or send messages.

Kogan really shouldn't be saying this is an "alternative to home internet plans". 30gb a month for a home internet solution is quite ridiculous.

    • +4

Not really. A lot of people don't stream, and mainly do email and a bit of surfing. Until I started streaming our broadband plan was 5GB a month.

      • +5

"Great for the whole family". Believe me, kids will chew up that 30gb in one day. If there really are people like you who don't use that much, then that's a good deal for you. But for non-tech savvy parents who don't know what a gigabyte is, they could run into trouble real quick.

        • +1

That's true, there were no kids in my household.

      • same …. the only big downloads in our house are xbox and ps 4 updates to new or existing games …. we don’t stream much netflix due to lousy australian netflix content and should cancel the service.

you tube is consumed on mobiles when out and about …. and we have 15 gb of mobile data.

      • In which case you can get a lower plan for a lot less. 6 gb for $205 or 16 gb for $254.

    • 385 GB data downloaded on my unlimited Optus Cable plan.

I have an UHD Netflix plan ….

    • +1

We don’t use much Data either.
I’m on the 23gb plan on my mobile and use this to tether in the house.
Can usually watch a few online movies a month without any issues.
I also buy those cheap Kogan startup deals which is like being on unlimited to us. I’ve got 2 unused that expire tomorrow.

    • this is a perfect solution to backup your main internet line in case it goes down or you are having one of those slow days, the plan will be good if you can rollover unused data.

    • The 'catch' is that you have to pay in advance ?

    • It says there's a catch but doesn't say what it is. ???

      • The catch is…

"you have to buy 365 days of data, bundled with a Kogan 4G LTE Modem and Wireless N Router."

This isn't even cheap, you could buy a 4G router and take up the Optus offer $52/m for 140gb sim and it'll still turn out cheaper

        • +2

Okay, you got me. How is $52/m plus a router cheaper than $33/m?

        • -1

          @Gershom:

Well you're getting 110gb data for $19 extra, 4G modems are relatively cheap nowadays too

        • +2

@koalafied: better value perhaps… not cheaper

  • T&Cs state, "Vodafone reserves the right to limit speeds to 12Mbps. T&Cs and Fair Use Policy apply." not sure if this is both up and down

    • +2

I'm thinking this deal may be good to backup 30gb/mth into the cloud for areas that don't have NBN yet

    • +1

12Mbps vs what we are getting on our current iinet connection is actually pretty good

  • I know the price is cheap but seriously 30gb is not enough for alot of people to use at home. For bit over double the price you can get 100gb on Vaya Prepaid https://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Data . But at the end of the day it all comes to which network is working better at your place (Vodafone VS Optus)

    • Optus has 140GB for $52, but I agree 30GB is more like mobile data not home

    • the bulk of the population actually use little data, hence low uptake of nbn and the bulk of those that did sign up were on the lowest speed plans.
hence nbn acknowledges mobile data is an issue for speed and cost and competes with nbn for some customers.

for a lot of people they either want to pay for data on a phone plan and use it where ever they are, but not both at home and phone plan ($50 phone and $60 nbn per month ….) especially single person households or where couples are at work.

we ( my sone and i) tend to watch free to air or record it as it is higher definition than streaming via the catch up app , abc me , sbs on demand dont look good on a 55” tv….. im sure they aren’t 720p.

  • -1

Double the data and keep the same price. Kogan would be able to see more sign-ups.

  • I'm about to have ADSL2 cut off and need/use 10-20gb a month at home so this is perfect timing to avoid connecting to the NBN. Thanks OP!

  • Warning to everybody currently at Forster and the speed is so slow you can't really use it! like less then 1mbs close to 0.1mbs. All the other times i've been here it's been fine, but this time slow as shit!

    • It’s Vodafone right?
