"It has the same panel as used on ASUS PG348Q"

    Panel : Samsung's advanced VA

Well according to the specs it isn't..

The ASUS is IPS (unless you linked the wrong model number?)

    • What's so advanced about it

    • +3

My bad, got it all wrong, edited. The deal itself still stand strong IMO.

    • -2

There is a VA panel version of ASUS PG348Q. This is due to a fact that many people have their own personal preferences of of each technology.

I got this monitor from this ebay seller in the past.
The seller is great and professional.
The monitor had problems. On 100 Hz I would see a lot of short 1 cm lines poping in and out. It’s unusable, faulty.

At 60 Hz connected using HDMI the lines don’t appear initially.
However after extended use, some lines are starting to appearing even at 60Hz.
The lines are worse with free synch enabled.
    I am using Vega 64.

I haven’t even able to resolve the issue yet.

    • +1

Sounds alarming, but I didn’t read about this issue anywhere else. Have you tried another GPU / computer? Would you able to RMA it?

      • Here is a demo
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fquLOBnGihM

        Same issue with other GPU.

        • Sounds like you got a lemon! You should return or RMA it if you still can. From hundreds of related posts I read, no one has mentioned this issue.
These kind of bands seems like a insufficient cable bandwidth or high error rate.

        • +1

Just realised your monitor model is a different one. Different brand also.

        • +2

          @poporange630:
First I though it was the display port cable. So I ordered a new one. One that supports 100 HZ, but it didn’t help.

The seller offered RMA or some cash back ($150).
I choose cash back as the issue didn’t seem to happen at 60Hz.
I couldn’t tell the difference between 60 Hz and 100Hz anyways.

However I regret this move as i found out recently the issue does occur even at 60 Hz :(

Two other users reporting problems with this monitor from the seller Dream-Seller, though Dream-Seller seems like they fix you up if it goes wrong.

This is from there eBay selling page, this doesn't fill me with confidence:

In case of back light bleeding
In fact all monitors have back light bleeding, how much backlight bleed is acceptable is based on your personal preferences.

Backlight bleeding does not harm the monitor in anyway. Please note that we do not reimburse for backlight bleeding by manufacturing process.

We don't accept backlight bleeding as a defect.

We try our best to minimize backlight bleeding, making slight gap between the panel and the bezel is one of the way, therefore don't worry about that if you find the slight gap on your monitor.

          About pixel warranty policy

The item may have some dead/stuck/faulty pixels.
There's no problem using monitor with these.
Please be aware that dead/stuck/faulty pixels CANNOT be the reason for return/refund or exchange.

        • @FabMan: Yea their services seems pretty good if it’s within a year and is manufacturing defact.

        • That kind of thing happens when you overclock beyond it's limits.
Usually dialing back about 5-10hz and it will be fine.

But if you left it for prolonged length of time on the wrong setting, you could've done damage to it…

Not sure about the very latest tech, but previously, the most overclockable ones were the DVI only monitors.
Anything with DP or HDMI was a non-runner for overclocking.

        • +1

@Deviner: The monitor is advertised that it can support 100Hz, I am running at 60 Hz and still have this problem. I am not overclocking.

        • I had something similar to that when i bought my samsung ultra wide.

Initially, it went away when I lowered the resolution or refreshrate.

Obviously i really shouldn't have to do this, so i decided to check that all my hardware is right.

Turns out that my displayport cable was bad. I went out and bought a certified DP 3M cable and everything worked out fine.

On a side note, if there are any drivers for the monitor make sure you install it.

        • @Butt Scratcher: Thanks. I have the latest drivers. Also got a certified DP cable. I may try to buy another cable.

        • @congngo:
          Hi congngo.
I've had this monitor for over a year now and have just started to play around with overclocking it.
          Have reached 112Hz no problem.
But when pushed above that limit i have so far encountered similar display issue as you posted above.

I know your not overclocking it.
What i'm wondering is if your timings have been stuffed around in some way..

Did you try uninstalling display driver in windows itself and then reinstalling.

I have r9 nano and use the standard displayport cable, have started to use cru to adjust setting.

In CRU you can try their detailed resolution setting to see if it changes anything. Not overclocking/underclocking , just reducing pixel clock.

Also have you tried 144Hz 2560x1080 on it.

        • +1

          @wpw:
Make sure you check for pixel skipping
          https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/6amgpl/psa_do…

Just because your monitor says 112hz doesn't mean its actually displaying 112fps!

    • Thank you, you've saved me from this problem.

      • +1

No problems. I think I got a lemon. Seller was happy to RMA back to Korea, so it might be worth the gamble.

        • +1

          Sounds shitty.

Since you cannot RMA now, how do you feel about opening it up and looking for easy to fix flaws, such as replacing solder or busted capacitor?

Perhaps even add some passive cooling since it seems to happen over time at 60hz, maybe something is overheating?

I mean you already have a screen that probably drives you bonkers, why not see if you can get it fully operational?

        • @FabMan: I am no techie, I will make the problem worse if I open it.
I will mostly likely reduce the refresh rate to 50Hz or turn it off to cool down when the lines appears.

        • +2

          @congngo: 50hz gaming, yukky.

          Some suggestions:

          • Disable built-in speakers, see if there is an option to do so and select volume to 0.
          • If it has USB ports, do not have anything plugged into it.
          • Try a different input port, so swap between the DisplayPort or HDMI 2.0 port it has.
          • Have a fan blow at the back of it, perhaps a USB bendy one that can plug into your PC.
        • @FabMan: Thanks. I have hdmi connected at 50Hz. It is next to open window. No USB ports. Volume down to zero.
          Minor lines appear infrequently.
I read somewhere it might have something to do with mobile or wifi router interference.

My router is next to the monitor. I will try to find another place for the wifi router.

        • @congngo: Worth a try with router, though it happens instantly at 100hz and builds up on 60hz I'd be surprised if it was that.

          No chance of trying DisplayPort?

        • @FabMan: Issue seems to be worse with DisplayPort. I have to go down to 40Hz when using DisplayPort.
I have a feeling that it will get progressively worse.
          Thanks for your tips!

        • @congngo: Good luck!

    • +1

I've had 2 Korean monitors, 1st one the PCB board failed after 18 months. 2nd developed the same issue your having after a year. Slowly got worse until all I saw was lines. I did actually find a replacement PCB that suited the panel on US eBay. I had to modify the back of the monitor to except it but after the change it ran at 120hz flawlessly.

      • What make were they?
        "Korean" is fairly generic…

        • +1

          "Korean"

Usually means a small ODM who purchases the panels that are rejected by "name" brands such as LG or Samsung for use in their products. The panels may or may not suffer from various issues since they weren't good enough for name brands.

        • @Diji1: That's not what I asked though…
There's 2 major brands, Qnix and Crossover - curious to see if it was one of those two or some other unheard of brand.

      • Sound like I have to do something similar.
What monitor model did you get?
Do you have the link to the eBay PCB model?
        Thanks!

    • Happens with my AOC monitor as well, except anything under 144 hz the lines dont appear. Freesync too

  • This is a fantastic monitor and the seller is a real champ. I bought one in March last year - and the seller was willing to edit the import declaration to ensure I would stay under the import threshold (lucky the exchange rate did not move against me and I stayed under).

I did however have one dead pixels - buy I don't notice it at all.

    Absolute steal at $630

Thumb nail is of overwatch yet overwatch doesn't support ultra wide haha

    • +2

The black bars on the side of the screen offer a "cinematic" experience.

    • Mercy: Pixels NEVER DIE!

    • Uhh i have a 3440x1440 monitor and i can play on ultrawide ?

      • TMK Blizzard doesn't allow 21:9 Ultrawide resolution in their game because it gives players an unfair advantage?

        https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20759348797

to this day people are still begging blizzard for the feature but they haven't budged on it so far

        • Wrong, i play on 21:9.
Okay i do agree it is a bit zoomed in but it does no bother me. It's still great but could be better.

        • It "supports" 21:9 but is vert- rather than hor+
          (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_of_view_in_video_games)

vert- = Fixed horizontal field of view for all resolutions, changing aspect ratio to wider reduces vertical view.

hor+ = Fixed vertical field of view for all resolutions, changing aspect ratio to wider increases horizontal view.

  • Any idea how long the seller takes to respond to offers? I'm worried about PUNCH running out (some sellers take a few days)

EDIT: He just responded, took about 30 mins.

    • What was the offer? Did they accept it?

      • +4

Not sure if it's a dick move to the seller for me to disclose it, but it's $650 (before PUNCH/CR) and he accepted. Was expecting a counteroffer closer to the ~$680 mark, which I would've accepted.

Might delete this post after a while to prevent him getting flooded with lowballs.

        • +2

Nope, you are the true Ozbargainer. Congrats
They are selling for USD$499 so AUD $650 is actually not too bad.

        • +5

@poporange630: Hahaha rip can't edit/delete the comment anymore. Sorry Korean dude!

But yeah, I just realised that, USD499's about AUD640. Even the Koreans know that they can charge us Aussies more.

        • -1

          @xrailgun: >Sorry Korean dude!

He probably likes selling them …

  • VESA mount?

    • Positive, may need spacer tube.

      • Could you please elaborate? Is there a guide for this? Vesa mounting is a must for me, but I can 3D print an adapter as a last resort.

        • @poporange630: Thanks for the pic.

From what I can tell, it'll be tilted down? So any monitor arms with tilt adjustment wouldn't mind?

        • what type of filament you using for duty like that? thanks.

        • @Hornpub: I'm not sure tbh, I think there's only PLA in my area. I'll most likely just harden further harden it with some resin/putty/epoxy/etc if necessary.

Might also just stick a few washers/spacers on it instead, can't really tell until I have it in hand.

        • @xrailgun: try PETG, easy to print, and strong as ABS,(its just pla, but not as STiff, so its not brittle)
its a tad more expensive than pla on ebay. like 30ish$ for 1KG.

i think well-printed pla should do the job, but not sure how long will it last, especially the monitor can get as hot as 50c. (40ish on the panel)

  • I am using an older crossover 30" model and has been great for 4 or 5 years. If. Was leaving on holidays in 2 weeks would grab this.

I believe I bought from the same seller at the time, has always had a good rep on whirlpool.

  • +3

It's always worth it to buy the Perfect Pixel version AND negotiate price down with the Korean monitor sellers. They are willing to cut some $ off the price.

Also here's a much more recent, better monitor from Crossover
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Perfect-Crossover-UW3535-HDR-Boo…

This is one of the only three 3440 x 1440 monitor capable of 120Hz at the moment, the only other two 120Hz capable are Alienware AW3418DW and Acer Z35P. AW3418DW and Z35P are Gsync, but all three uses same panels.

    • This would be great if you are willing to fork out an extra $300. What’s the lowest possible offer? To many of us 100HZ would be sufficient anyway.

    • Care to elaborate further why perfect pixel is worth it?
As far as know through reading forums years ago, there are no difference between perfect pixel or not.
Apparently there are no extra quality control on their part as they simply refund the price difference if the monitor turns out to be not perfect.
This can only benefit the seller.

  • I've a 27" Qnix at the moment that's been going strong for the last 18 months.
Got it from "accessorieswhole" on eBay, another S.Korean seller (not quite as reputable as Dream).

Read heaps about Crossover and Qnix and most people give them glowing reviews.

    • +1

Same here, my QX2710 still going strong after 3 years. Hencing posting this deal as I’m upgrading to this 34 inch ultra wide.

      • Nice, I have the very same! :)

I'm holding out for something above 27" in 144hz and 1440p at a good price!

I've an Nvidia card so the FreeSync doesn't appeal to me unfortunately.

    • I have had the 32 inch QNIX for a year and its flawless. Beautiful colours and an IPS screen.

It has 3XHDMI, and the VGA connector comes in handy too.

  • +2

I've been using a Korean " Yamakasi " monitor for years now, about 7 I think. It is an offshoot of the old Catleap monitors, the first 27" 2560 x 1440 120hz available back then if you missed out on the initial catleap monitors that could be overclocked from the PCB.

Never had a problem, obviously this is a different monitor.

    • I remember these Catleap monitors being the absolute dogs bollox for a long time.
I don't see their name around as much anymore though.

Mainly Crossover and Qnix these days it seems!

Koreans know their monitors, that's for sure.

      • +2

Yeah way more options for QHD 120 hz + nowadays, back then if that was your only choice if you wanted 27", 2560p and 120 hz

best advice I can give everyone from my experience toiling with pc 4k monitors?

Don't touch them. Go and buy a 4k TV with HDR.

All the fancy features these tout….. most of them can only be done via display port, and even then you still don't get hdr, hdmi you experience a ton of issues like handshaking.

And a lot of other issues mentioned above.

    I went through :

An aoc, acer, samsung (quality was good but price sucked and lacked features) and ended up getting a 42" hisense 4k HDR tv from jb hifi's black friday sale for $499.

You will be hard pressed to find one for that price, but seriously for comparable prices to pc monitors at the moment 4k tv's are leaving them for dead, the only trade offs are :

LARGE sizes ,I literally bought the smallest I could, and it was 42"…
NO vga… but hey no issue
60hz limit at 4k, 2x of the 4k hdmi ports only do it at 30hz but handles 1080p at 60hz, considering most pc's cant do 4k that well as it is, i've used one of my pc's at 1080p on it and all my consoles on the 4k ports.

I found a lot of the screens you are paying more for a "gamer" branding and paying so much more money for less features. so this is something to consider.

If you have to get a pc monitor consider something lower than 4k with a higher refresh rate.

    • +2

This is not a 4k monitor its an ultrawide 1440p.

Your suggestion on choosing a TV over a computer monitor is garbage. Your doing something wrong if you came to that conclusion.

      • -4

Sharing a 4k experience dude. Your welcome to your opinion I have mine based on experience playing with all of them.

You are going to be better off going refresh rate over rez with a lot of these unless going to a tv as stated.

Sitting in front of a 42" 4k HDR screen atm thats playing console games fine at 4k with hdr, playing pc games fine at 1080p or 4k if I want it.

It's doing a kickass job that for price comparison beat any other solution at the price range.

If someone is going to dump the money pretty much stating scope out the options, you may find something better fitting your parameters in the 1440p range, but you may want to have more options with 4k, but 4k gaming in pc monitors atm? no need to go above 1440p monitors as stated.

        • +1

I game in 4 k often ( 3840x2160 resolution at 75 hz also at 3440x1400 at 120hz the 3 k variant is newer to me only one week, but 4K for over 3 years) I also have a 4 k tv Samsung , lg and Hisense. When my main monitors went down due to a faulty power board ( they were all replaced under warranty) I was forced to use 4 k tv’s to game on… you are at a noticeable disadvantage in any cooperative game especially FPS based games. Things like sports games are not so bad as you can see what’s coming and anticipate for a while before it happens. but why would you put yourself at a noticeable disadvantage every time you choose to play some thing. The time it takes for a signal “ rendered frame” to leave the graphics card go to the tv go through all of its processes and be displayed is in the vicinity of about 120-200 milliseconds unless you have one of the newest lg TVs and they managed to get the delay down to the area of about 60 milliseconds. My 4 k monitors all run with a latency of between 12.7ms to 16.44 ms. Tvs are not designed to be the same as a monitor. monitor just displays the information that the graphics card sends it, a tv is designed to get a signal decode it render it and then display it. While they do have gaming mode ( in some models) and this tries to cut out some of the steps it still suffers from huge latency issues due to the signal being passed through additional processes.

Not to mention we are talking about computers here so to play games at a decent quality at 4 k you will need a decent computer so a gtx 1070 is the bare minimum ( 1080ti is best case scenario at the moment) so gaming on a 4 k tv will require you to spend around 650$ minimum just on a graphics card plus at least another 1200$ In parts just to meet the minimum requirements to do so and it be some what smooth. But then you were talking about consoles and while I won’t both going into the difference between 4 k gaming and a upscale of 1080i ( 720p/960i for Xbox one) ps4 pro is still not a true 4 k and the newest Xbox while admittedly I haven’t even bothered looking into this one Microsoft would need to be getting some serious bargain basement prices from their partners to build a machine that plays true 4 k at 60 FPS for the price of their console. But this is irrelevant due to the fact that you are arguing that a tv is bettter value for gaming than a monitor yet you are not even comparing it on the same platform.

Side note that undoubtedly you do not know about is HDR in not compatible truely for computers yet. While it has recently been added into windows 10 it is still glitchy and creates numerous problems for the users including crashing the systems and displaying “black screen” until the monitor and system are separated shutdown and rebooted with a new signal source. So in short HDR is broken for computers at the moment. So there is no argument where a tv is better than a monitor other than price and that is irrelevant since the cost to build a computer capable of utilising 4K is so high why would you cheap out on the one device you will spend all your time looking at you can buy many 4 k 60 hz monitors for around the 500$ range so the tv choice would be a terrible one.

If you managed to get this deep into this rant good for you.

TLDR. monitor different from tv, HDR is broken on windows. And using a tv as a monitor in competitive games is just handicapping yourself.

          Let the hate flow.

        • @Kiato: So i'm at such a huge disadvantage in FPS? damn than my gf shouldnt be top 2% in overwatch pro and I shouldnt be australia's top battlefront 2 player because i'm at such a disadvantage.

Damn going to suffer from you and your 5 mates tearing into me again ouch.

Too bad you can't post pc master race meme pictures here.

        • @typhoonadventure:
To answer your question, why are you and your partner doing well playing games? Is really a two part answer. 1. Your playing on consoles not a pc so the vast majority will be playing with the same handicap as you are. 2. The games you mentioned while being fps in nature have different elements to the game play that makes it so that you can take a couple hits and not die aka the health bars that can be healed/ shields etc. when I mention FPS I refer to games such as cs go, rainbow six siege, escape from tarkov etc games in which you can die from a single shot in an instant so reaction time is crucial and required.

I never mentioned any thing about master race but you seem a little insecure about this so I’ll leave it alone.

Long story short is it’s a topic about a decently priced computer gaming monitor based on a Samsung 3440x1440 va panel. This was never a topic about what is better tvs of monitors as it was orintated to pc users that are using it for gaming. If you have never tried using your consoles on a decent monitor maybe try it or just do a google search and see the points that have been made by myself and others. This is not a witch hunt nor do I have friends anyone trying to attack you it’s just other users that see your point as being invalid.

        • @Kiato: Funny, playing overwatch and battlefront 2 on pc.

I think you just have hurt feelings as someone disagrees with you and you've tried to come off as smart, otherwise you'd have a few hundred downvotes instead of a handful that you have right now.

As for the monitor, the post was supporting going down this route instead of jumping on the pc 4k bandwagon, as well as making people aware of other options in the price range.

It was not outside of the scope of discussion as many are looking at many options, it introduces a path many may not have thought of.

A "gaming" monitor with an input lag of 30ms. o_0

    • A "gaming" console with the input lag of a TV o_0

  • Had this monitor for awhile now.
Maybe it's just me, but implementing vesa stand to it is an absolute pain. Need standoffs which I didn't get from him.
Otherwise, solid monitor if you don't mind a not perfectly calibrated display.
Not Korean alternative for 34" 100hz 1440p costs about $500 more from memory

Guys do not buy this. These are rejected Samsung panels.

I got 2 of these on a previous ebay sale for $550 each ('pixel perfect') from this seller. Both are working perfectly fine at 95Hz, one has 3 dead pixels and the other has none. Highly recommend them, you get a $1000+ panel for $550.

  • Highly recommend the seller although the products are a bit of a pixel lottery. Got a similar model but IPS. Cam damaged de to courier's error. Seller was happy to RMA but I settled for some cas back instead.

  • I made an offer of $650 and got knocked back, plus the code expired. Got the 10% of code in the New years promotion so offered the $660 which they wanted and got it. Has anyone got theirs delivered yet who can comment on how it is? Mine is leaving Korea today.
