Best Way to Sell iPhone 6 64GB Hassle Free

Hi everyone,

I am going to sell both my children iPhone 6 64gb because they have upgraded to newer phone. I need advice on what will be the best way to sell hassle free because being carer I just don't have time to waste? When I read the forum on gumtree its just not for me.

Both are in very good conditions always with cover and tempered glass. One has slight scratch on the side that's all. Will come with the original box.

Can also get some advice on what is price to sell? I dont mine slightly lower price as long as it's hassle free.

Thank you everyone in advance for your kind advice,

Regards.

    for me, ebay. BUT:
    - list clearly all the defects, be SUPER honest - take as many photos as possible from every angle, clear photos not blurry ones. tips: create second facebook dummy account and post extras photos there and put the link in your ebay listing
    - filter who can bid. exclude low rates people and overseas
    - start with reasonable price ie $400 maybe? and give 5 or 7 days - you can check the exact same item ending price range on ebay. use filter.
    - post only, and use tracking & signature
    - take photo/video when boxing them and when you are in the post office (optional)

    • Thanks for your advice. My worry selling eBay is they will say phone is faulty whatsoever and how do we proof them?

wipe everything then turn on take photo on the first screen thing, then go through setup skip everything take photo again when you are in the setting etc etc. go to some apps take photo again.

well, there is always a risk but if someone has 300 positive feedback on ebay normally they wont do that. again, be super honest in the description. take photos. a lot of them.

i have sold many many, range between $20 to $1,800 items on ebay. no problem (not store, just private seller)

You are lucky. How I wish you can help me to sell. I am just not good selling on eBay and I don't even know we can filter buyers etc. Yes, honesty is still the best to do things. When you mentioned th selling tips, I felt so stressed up becaused I didn't know all those things. Thanks for your kind advice.

        • @SJ898: yeah. when selling 1800 surface pro i was worried as well. but for small items its fine - i just recently sold 6 wrist watches, all paid on the same night and i posted all in the next day. every buyers confirmed they received and happy.

Make sure you sign out of an Apple accounts on the phone, otherwise the next user will not be able to log into it. I'd recommend Googling "what to do before selling iPhone" and see what results come up.

Unfortunately EBay has its fair share of scammers.
They will buy your phone and when it arrives claim it is broken, and lodge a claim with Ebay as "INAD" - item not as described.
Then they ship back to you their own old broken iPhone6 and demand a refund. You have no way of proving the phone returned is not the one you sent and EBay will refund the purchase price to the buyer.

      • yeah but ebay account holder with 200 feedback wont do that too often i think.

        • +3

We sell about 300 items per month from our EBay store. Trust me, we have seen it all and I can assure you that EBay go out of their way to protect buyers, always at the expense of sellers. You only have to read the EBay Community forum boards to see what I mean.

        • How do you select sell only to 200 feedback?

IMEI number? Pretty sure that’s concrete evidence it’s not the same phone.

I haven’t had too many issues with gumtree personally, just set a reasonable price, be clear the price is not negotiable and only accept cash. Make sure you’ve properly wiped the phone of EVERYTHING so it is ready for the next owner.

Easier option would be to sell to a pawn shop like cash converters but they won’t give you much for them.

    • Yes I have thought of cash converter as one option.

    How odd are you kids?

    • +4

All kids are odd I reckon.

      • +6

        hahaha well yes that too….

        Drunk typing, meant old ;)

    • -1

      You mean odd or old?

      • see above…. Yes old.

  • 15yrs n 18yrs(additional needs).

  • +2

Ask your kids to advertise the phone to their friends (via Snapchat/Instagram…), and you can arrange payment/delivery with their parents. (That's how I bought a 2nd hand iPhone for my child)

    • Good idea. Thank you.

    Mazumamobile
    WeBuy
    MobileMonster

Do a quote at these places online and sell to whoever is offering the cheapest oops, highest!

Facebook selling groups also another place to advertise and if you have an OCAU (Overclockers Australia) Forum account for more than 90days you can sell on their forums too.

    • Thanks. I only used Facebook to be connected to disability group.

    • ah facebook group also full of lowballers

Mazuma and Mobilemonster are great. Have offloaded family phones (including smashed ones hassle free).

However, I would not take the cheapest quote - I'd take the highest price quote.

      • Noted. Great. Thanks. Will look into it.

      • I offload loads of old mostly dead or broken work phones on mazuma, if it's working you might get more on eBay or gumtree but broken its just easier to offload it to mazuma or similar.

    • Haha, reflex to type "cheapest"?

There's heaps more of them too and sometimes the difference between the offered amount is huge. I sold my old galaxy ace to fonebank.com.au, it was significantly higher than the other websites, so it's worth a few minutes to check them all. Maybe it depends on the model/supply and demand or something…

      • Thank you. Will look into this. Rdgs.

        • No worries. Yeah, just google "sell mobile phone Australia"; but just research a bit first (reviews and stuff etc).

Use a spreadsheet pen+paper to keep track if that helps.

  • I saw Ozbargain has a place called Classified to help sell and buy items. Anyone has experienced before? Care to share? Rdgs.

    • +1

there is no protection whatsoever there. this is public forum. but you can check if the potential buyer is long time member of not. and just pray long time members are good people LOL

      • Noted. Thanks.

  • I use Mobile Monster. They will give you $250 if the phone is as new perfect condition and $210 for working used condition. Very easy to use.

  • I've sold 3/4 iPhones through eBay and never had an issue. Sure it costs more than gumtree, but for the zero hassle and ease of just wrapping it up and posting is absolutely worth it to me.

    • My worry for selling in eBay when I send them a good phone, they might says it's not working so how do proof to them I send a good phone? Rgds.

  • sell it to me…easy :)

  • +2

Don't sell it on eBay, buyer will always be able to "change their mind" by claiming the phone doesn't work due to "Buyer protection guarantee". I experienced that 3 years ago, when I sold a media player on ebay, it was working perfectly, shipped the product after received of payment via Paypal. 2 weeks later received an message from the buyer saying nothing works, messages back and forth to try to understand what doesn't work, at the end received the item back but was cosmetic damaged (still working perfectly tho) and force to refund in full. Explain the situation to eBay and even record an video to proof that it worked, at the end eBay side with the buyer. Obviously I am the unlucky one but just be aware, ebay is not always hassle free.
I would recommend Gumtree tho, buyer get to see the product, either pay u cash on the spot or change their mind on the spot. and won't talk again. End of story

    • Sorry to hear about your experience. This is my worry thinking of selling on eBay. I don't like unnecessary stress as I have enough stress alr easy. Thank you so much for relating your experience.

I am going to sell both my children

Now let me get this straight…

  • I'll pass on either of the kids but I think its safe and OK to sell on Ebay if the Pick-up only option is selected.

    • Thanks.

      • +1

If choosing the E-Bay pickup option accept only Cash payment. Never ever accept PayPal for the pickup option as you have no way of proving you handed the item over so a dodgy buyer can then claim they never received it (PayPal will reverse their payment), leaving you without the device and $.

  • Lots of ways to sell…….
    eBay (at a cost)
    Facebook Marketplace
    Gumtree

    GOOD LUCK

    • Thanks for the suggestion. Will explore and discussion with my children.

      • Ok in all seriousness I am looking to buy an iPhone 6 in the next week or two.
I’m changing jobs and it’s my sim but company iPhone 6 that I am returning.
I live in Melbourne thou and could pickup…within reason.
        Cheers,
        Filbert

        • Hi Filbert,
As long as genuine buyer and reasonable offer price I am ok. Most important don't give me stress that's all I ask for. Can I ask which part of Melbourne you are in? Rdgs..

        • @SJ898:
Yep serious buyer and yep no shit will be given.
Live outer NE but work in Sunshine West. I am also on the road so could work something out.
I have sent you a pm with contact details and fair price indication based on what they sell for on eBay.

        • @SJ898:
          Howdy,
You don’t mention if they are network locked. I’m with Vodafone.
          -F

        • @Filbert: sorry for the delayed. Just replied your message. Both phones are unlocked.

I would like to thank everyone for your contributions. First thing I should do is to get some quotes from the market place suggested. Thank you once again for your time and contributions. Have a great day ahead. Cheers.

  • I sold my iPhone 7 Plus 128GB because I got an iPhone X in November. I chose not to sell it on ebay because it gives buyers the opportunity to claim buyer protection for the slightest issue, instead I went with gumtree. Once you put an ad up on gumtree, you'll get a lot of scam SMSs and emails giving you some BS excuse as to why they can't physically go and meet you but would be happy to pay shipping costs + a little bit extra for your hassle - clearly doesn't make sense. There were, however, some interested people and I ended up getting a very good price for my iPhone ($800) compared to those online purchase companies like MobileMonster - which would give you a fraction of the cost. Best of luck!

and you heard about them for the first time from me !! 😎

      • -1

Likewise, you learned how to drive a scooter from me 🤷🏻‍♂️

        • -1

and when you learned that I have been to Australia and you just decided to follow me… that was funny !!!

        • BTW, Why was Apple deliberately slowing down iPhones ?

          Did you hear that ??

Infect they got in a big trouble for it.

Tim cook & co. has now apologised for it, when caught with their pants down. lol
