USB Tower Fan $5 @ Australia Post Altona Gate (VIC)

91

Saw about a dozen of these on the table in the AusPost store at Altona Gate in VIC for $5. Mostly white colour but saw a couple of boxes with the black colour ticked.

Seems to be the same product as this one eBay/AliExpress for US $8 so seems like a good discount price for it.

Note: having just tried it now you're better off with 4x Xiaomi USB fans instead! Loud and squeaky, not much air given the noise. IMO not worth it even if Gearbest threw in some crazy coupon price for example.

Yeah I got one of these a year ago from Woolworths. Noisy, doesn’t work very well.

    • Maybe a good backup cheapie gift for that person at work or relative you don't actually like that much >_<
(cos it sounds nifty from the box! I was hoping to use it at work)

    • I stuck mine up the shirt and it worked well. Besides that useless.

    • Agree this fan is way too noisy to use as a mini desk fan in an office environment. Very irritating indeed.

I used one of these at work last year and coincidentally secret Santa bought me a quieter/more expensive variety.

Agree with above. Got these from woolies and they were crap.

Buy the $10 usb fans from ebay instead. Much quieter and it actually cools you down

    • How much were Woolies throwing these out for?

      • Mine was $5. OK as a (noisy) desk fan boost when the office AC is struggling. Otherwise, an inoffensive paperweight.

        • Same $5. Gave it away to a colleague I didn't like after using once.. Haha

Perfect gift for that someone who has everything. They sure as hell won't have one of these.

  • Ooh I dunno. The couples smiles on the packaging says otherwise

USB is not going to provide enough power for a fan to be useful.

Utter rubbish, I threw mine out after getting then at Woolies ages ago.

I received 4 Xiaomi usb fans which ordered lately :)

My wife thinks I am an immature adult for buying this like usb fans and lights…

      That's grounds for divorce.

  • Actually, what's a good desk fan? I need one for work and keep forgetting to keep am eye out

Having resorted to using the Xiaomi fan that lives in my work backpack once I gotta say it works ok for some basic airflow.
For something a bit warmer say on my home desk the small metal fans have a nice breeze and run pretty quietly imo.
This sort of fan which exists under various brands:

(Incase I'm wrong about that claim, mine was from Bunnings under a different brand)

My OzBargain-style quiet fan for when I'm trying to sleep is actually using 4x old 120mm computer case fans with a variable 12V DC power supply. Ok maybe not the biggest breeze for the size but pretty much free and making use of those decent Noctua's.

    • Use the p series noctuas :p
