    • I had a council guy knock on the door 2 days after putting up the inflatable pool.
Said he would be back to check it had been emptied at 5pm, or else infringement would be issued.
He said over summer he makes several of these house calls every day, often to uni students.
He said a 'concerned' neighbour called them.

      • you only need to empty it to just under 30cm, then it's legal to have without a fence.

        • No. The law is in regards to the pool's capacity/capability, not what is actually in it.

        • @bmerigan: I haven't seen the capacity rule before. The NSW one could be interpreted that way. The Victorian I couldn't find the exact legislation.

NSW: http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/ftw/Consumers/Product_and_… - Pools able to be filled to a depth of 300mm or more must be surrounded by a safety barrier separating the swimming pool from any residential building or place adjoining the premises.

VIC: https://www.kidsafevic.com.au/water-safety/pool-fence-safety… - "All swimming pools and spas on residential properties in Victoria with a depth greater than 30cm (300mm) are required to be surrounded by a safety barrier (e.g. a pool fence)."

One left at Marion SA, well zero actually since I'm buying it :)

    none left at Seaford SA.

these pools are great though, bought one last summer (exactly 1 year today according to facebook memories) used it for 2 months, left it inflated around the side of my house and its still fully inflated.

    Thanks OP.

I got one today, rrp was $20 and had to show the staff their site to get it at that price.
I inflated only 1 ring which got the height to about 250mm, the 2nd ring wasn't over hanging enough to annoy anyone

best is that it has a drain hole

Got from Dandenong Bunnings. Cheers OP

  • Just bought on, it's the best inflatable pool I've had. Awesome.

      How many do you own?

      • They tend not to last from one summer to the next…

        • You should start a blog, the internet feels incomplete without an inflatable pool review site.

All swimming pools that hold 300mm of water or more need to be register with your local council
Need a pool fen and council permit

    Five left in Oxley, Queensland

  • Indoor spa. Excellent find!

  • Combine with a few https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/353780 to make it a heated pool/cook a whole pig

  • Can this be inflated with a car tyre pump?

The old lungs aren't as good as they used to be :-(

    • You can buy these Coleman battery operated blow up machines. The 4 D size batteries last a few years with ad-hoc use (guests coming over, kids toys etc).

A $20 air pump, has different connections, and very useful to have. Won't pump up a tyre or anything, but fits all those wide hole connections you get on blow up mattresses and toys.

      http://www.bcf.com.au/Product/Wanderer-4D-Battery-Pump/32686…

Very useful for old lungs…. and so much quicker than puckering up and getting dizzy :).

      • People with old lungs could probably use the workout.

        • Some people with old lungs CAN'T workout. Exercise can't fix everything mate.

    • You will need an electric high-volume / low-pressure pump. Too big to do manually.

    • I thought I need to get a air pump too, but the ozito blower works pretty well - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/351245

it may not be perfect but does the job, also helped get rid of the rocks around the inflatable while you are at it

  • I’m sure you all will be getting building permits and organising building surveyors to come out and issue you a permit before you even think of filling up this pool

    • With one ring inflated it is legal, can not hold more than 30cm of water.

Still capable of drowning a toddler. But then people have managed to drown in a puddle so …

  • Hypothetical - If council's main way of finding out (excluding pesky neighbors dobbing in) is via aerial surveyance, couldn't parking this under a gazebo solve that?

    • So would emptying it after use. I highly doubt Council will come knocking on a 40 degree day, and they can't just rely on a neighbour without speaking to you/inspecting the site. You can simply say you put it up to use on the day, then decommissioned it when finished. Would be not in the public interest to pursue it further with you.

      • But then you just admitted to using it. So they could fine you if they feel like it.

        • +1

Council inspectors dont work like that. Cops can with the law, but inspectors need to see the violation in regulations themselves.
They can't issue regulatory fines on admissions alone.

      • I got a letter from council last summer about my pool not being fenced some one reported me they never came and looked they said in letter pull it down or they will be back in a week with huge fine so I removed it

        • But the point is you never got the fine either. That's what I'm trying to say… council won't just rock up one day for an inflatable pool and fine you. You built an actual pool and still didnt get fined… just a letter to tell you to pull it down.

  • Serious question (though it may sound silly) …. I need a cheap raised garden bed, due to back injury making it difficult for me to bend down and pick my strawberries etc.
Would this work as a cheap raised garden bed ? If it can hold water, im guessing it can hold soil. Perhaps take the plug out, for drainage.
    Thanks.
Ps. Any other suggestions for a cheap raised garden would be much appreciated.

If you only want a minimal garden, plastic 44-gallon drums are not too hard to get. The blue plastic variety can be easily cut in half, and mine has no sun damage after ten years in the back yard.

Ring a recycling shop near you.

      • No good for soil Ozz. Cheap alternatives at recylcing yards- like old bathtubs etc. Otherwise Bunnings do sell those raised garden beds (and I think Aldi has them sometimes too). Depends how handy you are, you could also buy sheet metal offcuts (like old shed walls etc) at recycling yards and with a few screws and some timber in the corners, make a decent raised garden. Posts wouldn't need to be dug in, and provided you dont go very high (20-30cm), it'll sit there nicely.

        • If you have proof that the plastic drums are somehow bad for the soil, please show it. Tell me, what are the majority of plant pots made from?

The one I have was used for food storage, bulk vinegar is supplied this way. It's a 55.4 gallon/209.7l drum.

All metal beds will rust, unless you can get something made of aluminium. But that will be more expensive, as aluminium is not a cheap metal, and has recycling value.

        • @Russ:

You misunderstood Russ… I was talking about the swimming pool being unsuitable. Nothing wrong with drums at all.

          @UFO:
Okay. You replied to me though, so ozzpete won't have received a notification of your reply, and it looks like you were arguing against my suggestion.

All cleared up now, no hard feelings!

  • Got One. My 3 kids had a ball in in yesterday. Once i got them out drained it and back in shed. Might go again today..

    • Remember to erect a fence around it each time you use it!

  • I was sued buy hume city council for $6000 for building a deck and Spa without a permit

    • That's an expensive lesson! Was it a demolish order too, or after that you were allowed to keep it with planning approvals?

      • Got the permit within 60 days of the building order, didn’t matter still sued for initial offence, didn’t help my case being all over the TV LOL
        https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2dHQxNCIYUE

        • Damn.

At least they gave you the permit though. Could have told you to rip it all down, PLUS the fine.

    • wtf, $6000? Did you pay it btw? Sorry to hear that..

  • Yay, got the last one at Springfield.

  • Went to 4 different bunnings across the weekend but sadly none had the 15 dollar one. Very popular.

  • Got the last one at Chatswood Bunnings, it was on the ground facing main entrance, I missed it a couple of times until I was about to checkout. I need a air compressor to inflate it, more $ to spend ;-)
