It's probably a reserve string from the registry. These are normally sold at a premium depending on the level determines the value. Some of the registries also charge that price per year so you would have to pay that amount ongoing.
Not too sure how the .design registry have chosen to operate their system.
After 1 year it's gonna cost you $34 USD to renew or transfer it, or you can get it from somewhere like Namecheap (not affiliated) for ~$8.77 AUD (~$6.50 USD, x5 cheaper) per year.
Depends if you want the domain for a single year then cancelling, or not.
It still comes out at $54.68AUD/yr if you select more than 1 year at namecheap.
