Say in theory i want to buy this but go to NZ in 18months time, would the card then work still? (i gotta make sure despite the last point)

      Hi

If you do not activate the SIM it will still work once you decide to arrive in NZ.

These SIM cards do not have a shelf life if they are not activated.

      • Hi,
I bought a SIM from last deal (09/10/2017) when you guys did not provide any replies to any of our questions for about two weeks.

Can you confirm that the SIM I bought then will also work if I go to NZ next week?

        The description was quite confusing.

As I understand it from this comment, the SIM does not have shelf life?

    Hi Op,
I will be arriving in Bay of islands at 29/01/18 by cruise. Can I activate from there by chance? Thanks

    • Hi tinkko

So as long as you arrive in NZ you should be completely fine to activate the SIM.

For anyone who needs more data you can buy these 2degree sims from pretty much all supermarkets/petrol stations/airports in New Zealand.

$2-$5 for the sim card (without plan)

    https://shop.countdown.co.nz/Shop/ProductDetails?stockcode=7…

Then just add credit to your account with the 2degrees app on your phone and sign up to one of the following:

    https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/mobile/prepay/

As you can see the 1GB plan is normally $19 so $11.37 is a good deal for the sim and the plan if 1 GB is enough for you. But if you need more data, you're better off buying the SIM in NZ and just topping it up then and there ($49NZ for 10GB data and calls).

  • I got two from this last deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/349323

Shipping was a little slower than I hoped, but it did come in time (I expect the delays were due to Christmas.) It may be planned to send it 'just in time', certainly a tiny bit stressful checking the mailbox and seeing it empty.

Posting now from NZ. Reception across the 2 islands has been pretty good. Easily getting 4G in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown. I think coverage is a bit empty in regional areas (think Optus VS Telstra).

    Scam Alert

Bought 2 sim cards prior and just returned from NZ yesterday after a 2 week trip. Managed to get data but there is NO call credit whatsoever. After contacting 2 degrees and checking account balance a big fat ZERO.

card activation instructions are also not correct. If you follow so easy's instructions then your account will not be activated. Frustrating when you land at midnight and require your phone to be able to contact your rental car company for a damn pickup from the airport.

End up purchasing a vodaphone card for calls. 3 GB and unlimited calls for $35.

Possibly spark car would be better as there were numerous free wifi hotspots in remote towns throughout the South Island.

Would avoid these guys in future. Wasted $20.

    • 3 GB and unlimited calls for $35

Where did you get this from, JipJip? Cheers

    • +1

I bought from them on three separate occasions, they all arrived on time without problems…

    • Hi Jip Jip

Could you please contact me regarding this? We are definitely not scamming anyone and there is in fact call credits allocated for each sim pack.

Please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to organise a refund for you for the inconvenience this has caused.

Vodafone free NZ roaming should still be active, so anyone on Vodafone won’t need this at all.

    • Hi

that is correct considering you have to be on a vodafone monthly contract to be entitled to free roaming in NZ

Our prepaid customers love purchasing this SIM as it can be easily discarded after use.

  • If you're in NZ now 2 degrees have a data hunt promo. it's like pokemon go. I collected about 1 gb extra without much effort. if you have two phones you can get twice the amount, and there's also a referral program (so refer your other phone number).

Ordered 2 sims on Monday and they arrived by Friday, so slightly surprised but very happy!

      Fantastic to hear,

we try to post items out to customers as soon as possible.

    • Thought I'd follow up on my post now that I've finished the trip to NZ. The SIM cards worked as stated (insert into sim slot, dial 200, follow voice prompts to set up a pin) and was activated within 1 minute. I had issues with my iPhone due to having previous APN settings (should be 'internet' for 2degrees). Nonetheless, 2degrees provides an unexpectedly decent troubleshooting guide on their site.

We mostly stayed in Queenstown where the reception was good and the 3G/4G internet speeds were pretty good as well (adequate for good quality YouTube streaming).

Overall, very happy with the experience.

  • My wife (in NZ as of today) tells me she is getting an "out of data" message and she has only sent one viber message. I don't need this drama.
