Now I need to find $1 flight :)

  • Doesn't appear to be limited to Chermside kiosk. I've seen nab kiosks around, perhaps the $50 offer applies to all. Also doesn't appear to be limited to new customers only. Maybe existing customers can close their classic account and apply for a new one again.

Why bother closing your account? It's not like NAB has any idea of what transactions have occurred anyway, so they'll be unaware of existing accounts in the short term. ;-)

      • problems have been fixed…

        • -1

Not all problems have been fixed.

        • -1

all account balances have been fixed…

        • -1

Not what it says in the link above.

        • -1

some transaction records are showing incorrectly in my account, but the balance was correct a few days ago… i've been told that all balances are now displaying correctly. you can verify at an ATM

        • -1

          Ah okay, thanks.

But wouldn't atm show the same as online?

Edit: The customer quoted in that article suggested the balance was not updated in his linked account.

        • -1

No I was told that online and ATM use different systems…

They should show the same value, but when my balance was wrong online, the ATM showed the correct balance…

    • maybe existing customers can close their classic account and apply for a new one again.

Omg, what a lot of hassle for a fifty.

    • If it's not limited to new customers why would anyone need to close an account? Would make the 100pt check step easier too. Any existing NAB Classic Banking account holder tried this?

      • +1

Yup, you can open another one. I am an existing NAB Classic and just did open with the kiosk at Highpoint Shopping Centre, VIC. The guy said that I am allowed to open another account

And, it is much easier for existing customers. Since, just only need my bank card and driving license (or any id). All records are already with them, took only less than 5 mins to complete it :-D

  • Anyone seen this in WA?

    • Not as of yet… let us know if you find one!

  • any account keeping fees or other gotchas for a nab classic account?

  • So sad, I just opened a new account in one of the branch last week.

  • What does it mean - opened at Kiosks? Does a big branch count as a kiosk?

    • +1

NAB Internet Banking kiosks are located within more than 300 NAB branches. Here's a list to help you find your nearest one:

      http://www.nab.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/nab/nab/home/About_Us/…

      • Thanks jv….No mention of this deal on their site, so fingers crossed that they might offer it still to NSW people

      • so you open an account using a computer? i'm still not sure what a kiosk is.

        edit: oh

At a NAB Internet Banking kiosk, you can:

        • view account balances
        • transfer funds
        • pay bills
        • apply for new accounts
        • switch to online NAB Smart Statements for convenience and to help the environment and much more.

so you apply for a new account using a kiosk computer thingy. 100 points id + tax file number as well i imagine.

        • +1

No a Kiosk is not an NAB Internet Kiosk its one of those things in the middle of shopping centres but instead of selling socks they have an ATM and a NAB person.
However the flyer is vague so you may be able to argue the point.
Kiosks are located at about 50 major shopping centres across the country.
The ones I know of in Melbourne are Chadstone, Southland, Highpoint, The Glen, Knox.

        • +1

ah, thanks for setting us straight.

          this might be useful http://westfield.com.au/au/search?sq=nab+kiosk&Search=Search

        • my nearest NAB branch in Collins St Melbourne has a Kiosk inside… It is not only at shopping centres.

      • +1

This list is incorrect, I spoke to bank staff and it needs to be a shopping centre kiosk.

        • yes I just went into my local nab and they didn't know anything about it and there are no kiosks in country victoria only in the city which counts me out.

  • Westfield garden city has a nab koisk near woolies with this offer too. i wonder if i close my classic account and open one at a koisk i would qualify for $50 or not?

    • Go for it, but as I said above is it really worth all the hassle?

      • some context: to earn $50 for less than one hours work translates to more than 100K per annum (and that is before tax). so yes it is worth the time for most people

        • Well said patientvalue.
Just matter get off you bum with approriate IDs, fill in a piece of paper and sit back and wait for $50.

        • Lol … You would have to open a few accounts to earn $100k. I don't see the relevance of your analogy. Look at the comments below and see all the confusion. Some have already wasted their time with no results to show for their effort. Using your analogy their annual salary would be a grand total of $0.

That is a big call saying "it is worth the time for most people". I'm not so sure that you speak for most people.

I'm sure it is worth it to some people and good luck to them. My comment above was directed to the user who was considering going the route of closing their existing nab classic account only to open another, for the sole aim of hopefully getting $50 credited to their account in 5 weeks time. Seems a lot of hassle to me, let alone the ethical question since this nab promotion is directed at new nab classic account holders. But that's just me—each to their own.

  • I might have to do this, St George has removed me from the 'complete freedom student' when I turned 18 and I am not liking the idea of fees on the 'complete freedom' account.

    • +1

Good move… NAB will be removing even more banking fees early next year…

  • Same deal in southland.

  • What do I need to bring with me to open the classic banking account?

    Anything other than driver's license?

    • +1

      you need 100 points…

      http://www.australianaustralia.com/page/Opening_a_Bank_Accou…

Drivers licence is only 40 points…

      • Cool, thanks. Will sign up for this… actually comes in great timing as I was looking to open a new account soon :)

      • .

      • ok that link is not quite correct. driver's license = 70pts, medicare card = 30pts

  • Has anyone seen any of these kiosks in metro NSW? Thanks!

  • offer begins on 5th of November.. Ozbargain has been slow at spotting this one…

    • and ?????

      • -4

        and what? idiot.

        • what's the big deal if is started on 5th November ???

and why are you saying I'm an idiot ?

  • +1

    Scroll down to NAB Kiosk:

    http://westfield.com/uscentres/ourstores/banks-finance-1852.…

Not sure why it says United States, they are clearly shopping centres in Australia.

  • that account has no monthly fees as well, definitely worth a look

  • couldnt you just go and open this bank account, put $5 in it and then once you get the $50 in there, take out $55 and close it?

    • yes

      • that's exactly what I'm gonna do :)

    • my current ing direct high interest introductory period is close to the end, so a new high interest account will be useful for me.

  • has anyone opened an account and actually received the bonus?

or can anyone refer us to a URL that confirms this offer?

or has anyone verified with this nab??

i cannot do any of these things, the staff in the brisbane cbd (308 queen st) branch knew nothing of it. it is free, so i still signed up.. but i suspect this is another hoax like dan murphy's.

    • The bonus will be credited by 10 Jan 2011

    • as far as i know the $50 will be credited on 10 Jan. It is not a hoax and NAB kiosk has been there for sometime :-) and offer is accurate…. I've only seen this offer at Westfield Chermside

    • i signed up today. also got the offer card. so it's legit.

  • if anyone sees a kiosk in sydney and is able to sign up for it let me know.

  • This is not a hoax, but the staff in branches will not help you, it is kiosk only. The list of kiosk locations above http://www.nab.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/nab/nab/home/About_Us/… is incorrect, it needs to be a shopping center style kiosk.

    • i just signed up for a classic + isaver (6.25% for the first 4 months) accounts at the carindale kiosk (http://westfield.com.au/carindale/find/detail/store?retailer…) today when i went shopping today. took about 10 mins while they typed my details into a computer. id i used was a drivers license (70 pts) + medicare card (30 pts). the account is active immediately so you can use online or deposit money into. the visa debit card comes out in the mail.

  • i will go tomorrow then. thanks for the list

  • Can you open a isaver or another account to get this as well?
My sister already has a NAB classic account.

However, I haven't got any, so I will definitely be getting this $50!
Furthermore, I require a NAB account anyway.

    • Can you open a isaver or another account to get this as well?

      nope…

      • Oh, hmm.. So anyway. Is there actually a person there to help you sign up or do you have to do it yourself?
I'm thinking of going to Chatswood.

Meh, just read above that they type in your details.
Seems pretty safe, I remember signing up for CommBank at USYD's open day and that was on paper.

    • Your sister can still open another one classic account. I just did this morning.
Only not forget to deposit before 13Dec, then she can get 50$ also.

      • what is to stop people opening an endless number of classic accounts then? edit: oh the t&c's say a limit of $50 per customer.

  • +1

Just did it at Parra Westfield, no problems.

  • Would it count at an NAB Shop - like a kiosk, no banking service. Indooroopilly has an NAB Shop, not kiosk.

  • Signed up today… to anyone that did, are you able to log into internet banking?

I was told it would be active straight away, and have the ID and password, but the website is not letting me log in

    • to register for internet banking, i entered my customer id + temporary internet password + new password

    • When you go to NAB's site, click Register and enter your NAB ID and temporary password they gave u, then you should be able to login.

      • Ah, thanks guys, cleared it all up…

I thought when they said it was active it meant I could just log in… but I have registered now and all good :)

I signed up today at Toowong branch kiosks, later their staff rang me and said this offer only available at chemside or Ipswich branch in QLD, not sure about other state.

    • It's available at Carindale.

    • a document in the starter kit you get refers to the kiosks as 'nab retail kiosks' and states they are run by authorised sales representatives (salesforce services pty ltd) of nab. i signed up at the carindale kiosk, there is also a nab bank on a lower level.

  • +1

someone confirm its available in sydney. not going to waste my time going to chatswood if it isnt.

  • Duh, wasted my time at NAB Eastgardens. Any one tried NSW Bondi junction?

  • +1

Can someone please confirm that this offer is available in NSW? I need to plan my day tomorrow.

    • Like I said in the earlier post, I signed up at Parramatta Westfield, and the lady there confirmed that the offer was available.

  • signed up at chatswood, took about 20 minutes. going to deposit the money later on.

    • where about at Chatswood?

  • at the bottom of escalators coming down from the back of rebel sports. they are at the bottom.

  • Nice! Was going to signup classic banking anyway, extra bonus!

  • can you make the payment into this account by transferring funds from your old account using net banking or do you have to take some cash into a branch and do it over the counter?

    • it doesn't really matter as long as you deposit money. surely electronically is easiest.

  • Just signed up at Westfield P'matta, thanks jbuultjens. The only problem is I also signed up on Friday using a computer at a local branch. Now just have to decide which colour atm card to keep!

  • NAB isaver can be closed and a new one set up at the expiry of the 4 month period. Seems that you can earn 6.25% indefinitely. This is what the assistant who just signed me up for the classic ac explained - I signed up at bondi jcn (NSW). Only 15 to 20 minutes - fast and very easy $50. And it is actually a good ac - no fees and as i have to keep $2000 in my current account that is a saving of about $130+ pa!

  • yep its the reason I switched over too. St George moved me off the student account and wanting to charge me fees. I will have to get around to cancelling that account before they slug me with an access fee. Gotta transfer all my money into this NAB account.

Probably the only thing I will miss about st george is the onling banking service, it appears to be much better than NAB's.

  • how long does it take to get the card from NAB usually?

    • I opened it on Friday and today I received the debit card in the mail already.

    • got my card today, opened on friday. i've got too many visa debit cards now (4).

  • I closed the St George account the other day so now have no card. I hope it comes tomorrow so I can go and deposit some money and start using the account.

    • You don't have to have the card to deposit money. With the BSB and account number you can do a transfer using the Internet.

  • yeah i closed my account though, no other accounts to do a transfer with. might just get my parents to send through some money if it doesn't arrive tomorrow. it would be easier to just go into the bank with my card and all my money and deposit it though.

    • you can deposit in bank, just write the account number on the deposit slip. give them a gold coin to deposit :) you should also be able to withdraw if you have a drivers license or similar.

  • Okay I will do that, thanks for telling me.

Just wondering now, I recieved a mail from NAB today containing my PIN number for the Visa Debit card, yet there was no card inside the letter? Whats up with that? Why would they send me the pin but no card..
