  • if anyone overordered, I'm keen. I got sidetracked after my first post at work and forgot to come back to this.

I received my order today, while running my drive test with WinDFT program, I submit the serial number to https://www2.hgst.com/portal/site/en/support/warranty/ for a warranty check.

Surprisingly, I receive the following respond:

    Country: Australia
Response: Please return drive to the point of purchase or system manufacturer.

    Country: United States
Response: The drive is not valid for warranty through HGST. Please return product to your point of purchase.

How to claim the 5-year warranty as stated for the drive?

I got to my order on the weekend - all three drives have a manufacture date of Feb 2016

    • Have you submitted your serial number for warranty check on HGST?
The seller said they will provide only 3 years instead of 5 years warranty by them, not HGST. Thus the cheap price.

      • No but I will do so at home and update with the result

      • Ok so I tried that and all three say "Expiration date (YYYY-MM-DD) Please return drive to the point of purchase or system manufacturer.".

So what, folks have already looked into it and all we get is a 3 year warranty from the seller? And that wasn't mentioned anywhere before purchasing? And Amazon won't do anything? Are people pissed off?

        • That's ridiculous!

      • @fatice ?

  • Well after all that I went to Amazon, they said to go to HGST, they confirmed the warranty was not valid and said to return the drives where I bought them, I went back to Amazon and they arranged to send me return labels for a full refund 0_o

    • I am using it as an Archive drive (it is still cheaper than Seagate 8TB). What I am worried it might be a refurbished HGST or even a fake one.

  • Absolute headache trying to get a full refund from Amazon. I'm currently on a 40+ minute phone call to them. Not my first phone call. I've sent multiple emails to multiple addresses and I've had a handfull of online chats with them. EVERY…SINGLE…PERSON…has me repeat every detail. And then they tell me lies like they've already sent the refund for my return shipping (they haven't) or that I didn't return the items within the return window (I did and there's no return window anyway)
