This smart thermostat from Xiaomi is their latest smart home gadget. It features a display that'll show the current temperature/humidity, pairs with the Mi App over Bluetooth to show current/historical data and can be set to function with other Xiaomi smart home gadgets. This video from early release shows the thermostat in action and explains how to set it up with other Xiaomi products.

Next up is a new set of sport Bluetooth earphones from Tronsmart. They're IP56-rated water resistant, provide up to 12 hours playtime, apt-X for better sound quality and 3 different ear tips for a snug fit.

  • Does this work with IFTTT and GH?

I don't have a xiaomi hub, but if I don't intend to Automate anything at this stage will I still be able to display the temperature and record historical temperatures? I just like data and would like to see historical temps. How long does it keep the data for? 24 hours?

I was thinking of setting up a raspberry pi to record temps for me. Would this be able to achieve something similar?

    • +1

It'll still work without the home automation. In the app you can see the historical information from day, week and year. The video linked in the OP shows what you can see in the app.

  • How good is this temperature thermostat is it accurate. I would like to know the indoor temperature and humidity to know if I should turn on the air con. How is this powered.

    • +1

It's accurate. Powered by 1 AAA battery that lasts around a year.

      I bought one of these:

      https://www.gearbest.com/crafts/pp_971652.html?wid=21

From this sale (for 97c delivered):

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/347924

I have mine blu-tacked to the wall right on top of my evaporative air conditioner's wall control so I can easily see the indoor temperature and humidity. Works well so far!

Though to be honest, I have no idea how accurate it is. But when the A/C is pumping, the temps go down and the humidity goes up (expected from evap cooling) so it's at least semi-accurate!

      • Buy a couple more, line up next to each other, and take the average? Mode?

Guess I'm talking about precision here, not accuracy.

      • I bought it, too. But never receive it.

  • Thanks op, I was watching out for this thermostat because there's another Xiaomi one that requires the hub, but this one is standalone with hub optional. When this one was released on gearbest I set a search alert for "Xiaomi thermostat" on ozbargain lol and this finally came up. Appreciate it.

Tempted! What powers the humidity sensor?

    • AAA battery.

  • Thanks Clear. Will pick one up.

  • ANy chance for a discount code for the xiaomi electric scooter or .bicycle ?

  • Does this thermostat connect to my WIFI router so I can connect remotely from the app on my phone like i do with my Xiaomi camera via the Mi app? sorry but a bit confused as it says blutooth but that would only be for a local connection? i'd like to use it to remotely check the temp of a walk in cool room.

    • Watch the video in the OP.

    • 2 options:

      • Connects via Bluetooth directly to your smartphone/app.
      • Connect to a Bluetooth-WiFi "bridge". Then it is essentially "on the internet" and you can access on your Xiaomi app from anywhere. Apparently that bridge is a Xiaomi lamp or something.
      • Pretty sure you don't need the bridge to connect it to wifi/internet.

Edit: with other Xiaomi products you turn on the bluetooth on your phone, run the Xiaomi Home app and the device will appear in the app ready to connect. You connect to it and "send" it your wifi info, SSID and password and then the device connects to the wifi independently and you can turn off bluetooth.

        • True that's the thing. Don't want Bluetooth on my phone all the time jsut to check the temp. And wanna be able to check the temp when out and about out of the house

        • Ah, very nice indeed. So you’re saying it has a built in wifi module. Nice.

        • +1

          @Marty131:

So I just had an argument about this in another thread and it turns out it may not have a built in wifi module after all :( its weird though because Gearbest describe it as "Wi-Fi enable thermostat allows for remote access via smartphone, tablet or computer", but I cant find anywhere else that supports this claim.

Edit: I spoke with a store rep that confirmed it doesn't have wifi :( leaving this here in case others got their hopes up like I did!

        • @Andweeb: That's why I included the video in the OP which explains it.

  • Out of stock according to The site for the humidity sensor :(

    • Hey Clear, appreciate all of your deals and effort! :)

Just trying to get my head around all of the Xiaomi stuff and hoping you can confirm/clear this up for me:
      - No gateway required if you only want to use it to check temps on the app etc., I get that.
      - If you require home automation, the only available bluetooth gateways are the new Aqara camera or the new Mijia lamp?
      - Which other current/upcoming products use this bluetooth gateway? I'm only using Yeelight bulbs at the moment, so haven't needed to buy the Xiaomi smart gateway (for Zigbee products) but was planning to very soon. Now I'm wondering if I should hold off if Xiaomi will start producing products used with the bluetooth gateway more than the wifi one. What would you recommend or is it too early to tell?

      Thanks so much!

        Correct

The lamp is definite yet, but I'm not 100% certain on the Aqara camera and I'm not sure what else is using it.

What would you recommend or is it too early to tell?

It looks like the Xiaomi Gateway is here to stay and a good majority of devices are going to be compatible.

        • Awesome, thank you :)

        • More thermostats coupons please

        • @blehgg: Should work now.

        • @Clear:

          thanks!

    • Any chance of more stock or all gone? Was too indecisive :(

  • Ordered 2 days ago. Still haven’t shipped

  • Can I programatically get the temperature/historic data? eg with an API call. or am I forced to use the Mi Home app?

    • +1

If you use a home automation hub (hardware or software, that talks to the Xiaomi gateway) such as HomeAssistant (runs on RPi3) it will log the data.

  • This coupon code has ultimately reached the limitation usage times.

    Expired? Any chance of more?
