First one that has worked for my account! Thanks.

    • -1

      WFM too

      • I'm not sure this is targeted, all 5 of my accounts are eligible. Is anyone not eligible?

        • All 3 of my accounts accepted successfully

  • +2

Worked for me as well, thanks!

  • +1

How do you know you get it for free? I haven't sold anything on ebay for ages due to the fees and paypal caveats. Smaller audience on gumtree but cash on pickup is less hassle.

    • +2

PayPal fees will still apply but basically you will just not be invoiced by eBay for the sale. Unless they screw up, which I have heard of happening. Then just dispute the invoice :)

      • Yes. always they charge. Need to do live chat and they will fix it. Three items I sold. same issue all the time

    • +2

When you accept the offer it remains at the bottom of the "All Selling" section and shows how many how many times you "Used" the offer (ie. took up the offer). When the number is greater than zero, it becomes a hyperlink that takes you to a list of the eBay item ID's that qualify. After I list each item I confirm it is there and take a screenshot because I'm paranoid of being stung with eBay fees.

This confused me too, because when listing there is no confirmation that the listing qualified for the offer.

Im fairly sure this NOT targeted .
Ebay hates me (and all regular users) so Im never 'targeted' but this 1 works for me .
    Thanks OP.

    • It's not, even the new account I opened yesterday is eligible.

    • My account that was created in the UK is eligible to. So this can't be targeted as it's normally Australia only.

The promotion says "Sell 5 Unwished Xmas Gifts for free".
The obvious question here is: what items can be considered as Unwished Xmas Gifts? I couldn't find any details in the T&C.
For instance, can one list the furniture using this promotion?

    • +3

      Anything.

    • Should be anything other than excluded categories. They can hardly know whether the item is a gift.

    • +2

      Will work for everything else

      • +7

Damn. I was gifted a Boeing 707 this Christmas. Why does eBay have to exclude aircrafts?

        • +1

You must be on a first name basis with John Travolta…

    • Note that it allows you only one category, so hopefully everyone gave you furniture if you're looking to sell furniture. According to thelastnoob, subcategories worked in the past.

      • +4

All five don’t have to be in the same category, you just can’t list each item in more than one category (well you can, but you don’t get the second category free). E.g. if you’re selling a chair, you could list it it furniture or home decor, but not both for free

        • Ah okay, thanks for clarification. I had instant regret upon hitting post as I realized that's probably what they had intended.

  • Targeted.. didn't get it.

    • What happens when you click the accept offer link?

      • -1

You get to sell 5 items free in the promotion period, duh!

      • "Unfortunately, this promotional offer is by invitation only."

      • That worked for me! I was not targeted but it allowed me to sign up thanks mate!

  • +6

Beware, does not apply for auto-relist when auction has no bids, or "good 'til cancelled" after 30 days.

  • Dammit I thought i could list the 747 but nooooope.

  • NOT TARGETED.

    WARNING WARNING WARNING URGENT WARNING

The promotion only applies to listings in ONE category. If you add an additional category to your listings, Insertion Fees (and other applicable fees) will apply for the additional category.

I just did one of these in December and sold 2 cameras and one lens. ($4750 in sales only paid PayPal fees) Sub categories are allowed as I sold cameras and lens.

    • +3

That does not refer to putting all your listings in a single category.

It's to void individual listings with multiple categories selected - for example if you want to list one item in multiple categories normally you would create one listing and add multiple categories to that single listing.

In this case for the promo to apply you can only select one category, then make another copy of the same listing in a single different category thereby using up 2 of your 5 allotment.

      Confusing I know.

      • Of course they don't like one item in multiple categories.

That would be spam, in the original usenet sense of the word.

      • wow thanks it is very confusing and I avoided using another category when I sold 3 items so your comment is a lifesaver
        thanks

      IS TARGETED

"Unfortunately, this promotional offer is by invitation only."

  • thanks mate!

  • Can I end an existing sale then relist to qualify for this?

    • +1

      No one can stop you.

    • I had 5 items listed for sale. Ended them and relisted for this deal

  • Worked! Thanks!

  • +1

    Targeted

Unfortunately, this promotional offer is by invitation only.

  • Awesome, worked for my account!

  • Does your listing need to end by 8th Feb?

    • previously for myself, it's been as long as you post before the promotional period.

    • +1

Does your listing need to end by 8th Feb?

No, it only has to be listed and made available for sale by then.

Doesn't matter when it's sold, as long as the item number doesn't change (from relisting it).

  • worked on 2 out of 3 - awesome!

Gosh last time i sold something on eBay was a decade ago.

    • +1

      Thanks for letting us know.

    • +4

I was wondering what happened to you.

  • Targeted :(

    • Are you sure, have you tried following the link posted here? I didn't get an e-mail and it didn't appear in the offers section on my homepage but following the link worked.

      • clicked it and said it was invite only

  • So if I have an existing listing, I'll need to end it and relist to take advantage?

  • Went thru iOS app, went to selling tab and it was sitting on top, one click will add the offer to your account.

  • Thanks Op, worked for me, and I needed it.

  • Since these promos are often intended to re-engage lapsed customers (in a recent promo, they accidentally included wording to that effect that was probably meant to be internal), then if you have significantly more than 5 items to sell, it may be best to play hard to get in hope of being targeted with a better offer in future.

  • +1

Listed an item on Sunday, using the "List an item for $1 on Sunday" promotion. Decided to end and relist using this promotion and it worked.

  • To be eligible for no fees under this offer, does the item HAVE to sell before a certain date?

    • +1

Pretty sure it only has to be listed before the promotion end date. And must sell within 30 Days after that.

  • Oooh…got this one! But I'm still using up some dummy listings I created from an eBay promo from last month, so not sure if I need these extra three.

  • Thanks OP.

I wasn't getting any selling offers until I reactivated "receive offers and promotions" check box under my communication settings as mentioned in another post. In the week since I've done this I have got 2 offers.

    • You still get them, you're just not notified by email.

      • nope, hadn't received a selling offer in my selling section of ebay in over a year. I checked constantly and if any offers were posted here I would check and nothing would be in my account.
Turned notifications back on and 2 offers appeared within a week. Bizarrely I didn't get emails regarding them.

        • OK, how odd!

I have notifications turned off on all my accounts and still receive all promos. I just check this link regularly which shows all eligible current (and past) promos:

No you don't, you'll only get the promos that aren't targeted and are available to anyone.

Only way to receive targeted promos is to subscribe.

        • @Scab:

No, I do get all the promos relevant to my account, Including targeted promos. For instance, I have several accounts that I deliberately don't use for extended periods….. I will periodically receive sell promos and buy promos that my other (regular buy and sell accounts) don't get.

        • +1

          @ash2000:

You cannot get targeted promos without subscribing.

Receiving an email for a promo or for only one account doesn't necessarily it's targeted, targeted promos are by invitation only.

This post, even though someone has marked it targeted, is not actually targeted.

Targeted promos always have a "Who is eligible" entry in the terms where it explicitly states that only people that are invited can accept it.

This promo does not have this condition.

        • @Scab:

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. :)

Reported for politely disagreeing with me.

  • thanks op, will cancell my current listing and re-list using this special, will save me around $85 in potential fees

  • I got a push notification from my eBay app, but I'd already accepted the offer here.

  • This is confusing. I thought you could always list your items for free but ebay takes a commission. So I don’t get how this is a deal. Unless I’m stupid.

    • +1

This is a promo for no final value fees, they get no commission from this. They usually take 9.9% + GST but this promo waives it.

You would be correct if the promo was for no listing fees.

    • This is confusing.

That is intentional, just like banks and airlines.

They still make profit from the compulsory paypal. Paypal is now a completely independent company though, no collusion at all, no sir.

      • yes, its like how gumtree keeps pushing to use paypal, however completely failing to mention its high fees

  • +1

I've used these promos to sell things on ebay that probably would have just sat around otherwise. In the end I couldn't believe what I got for them, eg. iPad 3 64gb - $230, iPhone 5 16gb - $170. I certainly wouldn't have paid anywhere near that. If I had have put those on say facebook buy, swap and sell site I don't reckon I would have got those prices, eBay buyers seem to pay more for some reason.

    • +2

      iPad 3 64gb

      Geeze, you did well there.

    • +1

Well done, did you list them as an auction?

      • +1

Yeah as an auction, 7 days. I actually sold the iPad twice, the first time the buyer contacted me the next day saying she didn’t have the funds and wanted the order cancelled. Very frustrating especially as I used the earlier sell for free offer. Anyhow via eBay online chat they let me relist it for free again, which worked and I got almost the same price again.

        • never ceases to amaze me how genuinely stupid some people can be. i knew someone once who used to "buy" things on ebay, as in, click on buy now, however all they wanted to do was add it to their ebay watch list, they did not actually want to buy it. i asked them, why they dont just literally add it to their "watch" list instead of actually clicking the buy now button. they just shrugged. i now know this person to not be "all there".

        • +2

          @DiscoJango:

never ceases to amaze me how genuinely stupid some people can be.

Desirable items and auctions bring out the stupidity of people, I've sold things for more than I've paid for them.

  • Thanks. Worked for me.

  • Hi, Does anyone know if this promo applies for the next 5 things you list or can you pick and choose the listings? I have some bigger value items to sell but I don't want to list them for a couple of weeks. Don't want to waste this on lower price stuff I usually sell.
