  • probabaly doesn’t have a standard mother board and power supply form factor so the parts can be put into a std tower case and normal size cards fitted ?

    • +5

Stripping these for parts other than RAM is a nightmare 9/10 cases.

  • +1

Probably another 450 AUD to take this to a gamer lite machine. Not too bad considering the Ddr4 rams prices right now.

    • +1

A 1050ti costs less than 450 AUD. Unless you want to move it to a different case + get another power supply + a full size GPU. If you do all that you can probably afford to put a 1050ti in the new case.

      • +2

I was thinking of 1050ti, another 8 GB ram and a 500 GB ssd.

        • 16GB ram for a game lite machine? No. Gamer lite machine would be 4GB. A gamer machine would be 8GB.

          500GB SSD?

          The (profanity)?

No need for anything over 128GB. 256GB if you like room.

This machine needs a 1050 Ti LP + SSD and it's perfect barring unforeseen PSU issues.

I wouldn't put a GPU in this though. A new machine is a much wiser choice.

        • +1

It could be a budget gaming machine with just a 1050ti and that is it. It'll run fine at FHD.

        • I agree with the rest of the answers, I am not sure that 8GB is worth for this machine. A 1050ti alone would probably make sense. The SSD would not make a lot of sense if you just want to do gaming. I would buy an SSD (I am ok with the 60 GB ones as I run a light OS) do not get me wrong, but do not blame the gaming for it :) blame usability.

        • +1

@misu p: 8GB of RAM + a 1050ti would make for a perfect budget gaming PC. 120GB/256GB(if you wanna put a couple games on it)0 SSD for boot drive if you are using it every day, stick with HDD if its just for the kids.

        • @Agret: This PC already has 8gb of ram. You are talking about another 8gb I guess. I assume (I might be wrong as I did not research this) that the 1050ti would be a bottleneck for games a long time before the existing 8GB is.

  • any warranty?

edit - just saw that there is option to warranty 1 or 2 years warranty so i guess no warranty then.

    • -1

Australian company, they'd have to supply warranty by ACCC law.

  • +1

It only comes with a 240W power supply. will i need to upgrade the power supply to put in a 1050ti?

    • +1

No, 1050ti uses power over the PCIe port only, consuming a max of 75W at full load, it'll run less than that most of the time.

    • Well, NVidia suggest that you should have at least a 300W power supply (despite only using 75W): https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-10…

Not all 240W power supplies are created equal. They may be able to provide 240W total, but not provide as much as needed to the 12v line (or 5v line) or whatever. Some people also pack their machine lots of extra hard disks etc. which puts more load on the PSU.

So you are outside Nvidia's recommended guidelines. Chances are it'd be fine with this particular 240W PSU (esp. as OP suggests this use case). Just remember to get a low profile 1050ti or it physically won't fit it in the case.

  • Just a note from the person who bought 2 PCs from this seller. CPU was upgraded from i5 to i7 and an 1050Ti was also added. However, there were some incompatibilities which I guess due to the BIOS and the insufficient PSU which caused the crash and a recovery had to be done whenever the kids played CS GO (not sure about the name lol). It's quite annoying somehow and they were not really helpful in sorting out the issue. Cheers.

    • +3

If you added the 1050ti then why would the seller help you debug your PC?

      • I meant the PCs were original with those specs: i7, plus the 1050Ti and I didn't touch a finger on them. The initial specs of i5 showed up after the crash as a screen from a third party organisation. It's nonsense to ask for support if I did the upgrades myself. Btw, I forgot to say that mine is one of the seller's other listings.

        • Hi

That doesn't sound quite right. We don't do CPU upgrades on machines, simply because we don't have too.

We do support everyone one to out best ability. Even if you change the systems configurations.

If you wanted to shot me through a PM i can look into this for you.

IF the cpu's have changed I would at the least suggest a BIOS Version upgrade.

        • @Calmago: So which of the two specs is the original one please?

          Ebay listing
          Or
          Frozen screen after crash.

Also, both the PCs had the same issue that made me think of the incompatibilities.
          Thanks.

        • @Wuuuleee: Going to need more information than the blanco page. The blanco page, may be from a hard drive another machine. If you can provide me with the serial numbers of both machines, I can look into this, or provide me your invoice details.

As those machines have both a SSD and Hard Drive, when the system boots it's booting to the blanco screen rather than the SSD which the OS is installed on.

We have sold quite a large number of those machines with zero issues. If we were having issues with compatibility, than we wouldn't be making them.

        • @Wuuuleee: Sorry to interfere, but check the PSU wattage. http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/. From my calculations the power consumption would be 240W, your PSU should be 290W. That is not to say that with a 260W PSU it would not work, but you are cutting it close.

It is hard to get max consumption for all your components, but it is something to think about.

        • @misu p:

Real-world measuring at the wall, would probably show under 100W peak draw, as configured.

    • Sounds like that buyer upgraded the CPU himself. The ones in OP come with an i7 already so maybe have a better PSU.

  • Does anyone know if a Galax nVidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC 4GB GDDR5 Gaming Graphics Video Card HDMI DP would work with this computer??

    • +1

Not low profile, needs to be low profile, that one is too tall.

    • You cannot fit it in this case (unless you want to take a Dremel to the case). You need a low profile GPU for it. If you have an extra case then you can move everything in the bigger case but then the PSU would not fit.

  • So 1050Ti is confirmed to work with this particular model? Pascal cards are know to have the issues with Sandy Bridge ex-corporate machines.

  • +3

If you don't need to plug in a GPU, I'm a big fan of these small ThinkCentre Tinys.

It is an i5 3470T 2.9GHz, 4GB RAM, and 180GB SSD in a tiny form factor for $200 delivered. The one I received looked new - it even still had the protective plastic around the power button.

    • +1

Whoa, not bad for a little htpc..,

  • -2

    Or this one here

Same PC except $199 no HDD, also 10% off using code: ‘PUNCH‘ at checkout.. $179 odd after discount…

    Says 6 available…

    • +1

$8 bucks for a hdd is pretty worth it imho

    • That coupon has long since been expired, looks like the seller hasn't updated the listing since.

    • That listing mentions the PUNCH code, but that is the eBay boxing day code that expired the end of December. They need to fix the listing and it shouldn't work anymore (original PUNCH deal FYI: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/351581)

      • Ah well it seemed worth it, I have a media centre I plan on transplanting a 1TB HDD into this machine anyway… All good…

  • $28 for a 5ooGB?? After discount… :)

  • How many 2.5 hdd can I fit in into this?

    • Looks like 2x HDDs supported, comes with 500GB + room for another under the CD rom, as the ad says…

      • It says one 3.5" HDD, so maybe it can fit two 2.5" HDD? As long as the controller supports 4 SATA devices..

        • Says “These machines also have space for a second 3.5" HDD under the optical drive” in the description…

  • The listing advertises it so surely he would have to honour wot the listing says in the title & description though?

  • Can I use it as a home network media player?
Can add displayport to hdmi adapter (https://www.startech.com/au/AV/Displayport-Converters/Displa…), but not sure if this computer equipped with proper DisplayPort A/V output.
    Might be too noisy, anyway…

    • Yeah this is what I wanted too, but the lack of HDMI and the need for an expensive adapter stops it being attractive to me

    • You can use Raspberry Pi 3 with external HDD or streaming of a NAS. Will be cheaper and less power hungry.

      • Do you know if there is a way to get apps like Animelab and Netflix on a raspberry Pi 3?

        • There's a way to get Netflix working on Kodi Rasberry Pi via an add-on.

  • +1

This is not as good as 8300 which has 4 usb3 and probably faster ram.
    Also i5 3470 is on par with i7 2600.
You can get 8300 i5 for less.

  • So Intel will not be releasing a firmware update to prevent Meltdown and Spectre for Sandy Bridge systems or older, either leaving the system vunerable or running slower with the OS update.

This makes this PC less than ideal to purchase right now and good reason to upgrade if running Sandy Bridge or older like I am. Also makes AMD more appealing for now.

    • +2

Meltdown requires a software fix not hardware. Microsoft will be updating Windows to implement the fix.

      • Firmware will be released for systems newer than Sandy Bridge, to protect against Spectre variant 2 while Spectre variant 1 and Meltdown will be software fixes only. These fixes can affect performance up to 20%, it affects older systems more so, like my Haswell. Newer systems should be affected less than 10% in performance.

  • +2
    • Thanks for the direct link
Very informative though it looks like more than the usual amount of d*cking around for this build.

      • 8300 Elite with i7-3770 would be smoother sailing.

  • Just ordered for kids start learning computers.

  • Thanks Calmago, exactly what I was waiting for :-)

    • No worries

  • +3

    All sold out now.

Thank you again for your support.

If I can scrounge a few more units, I'll update the listing.

    • if you do could I make an offer to purchase/lock one away ?? if ebay make an ofer is accepted.

Just needed something to run with a monitor. so basic internet browsing etc.

  • what kind of RAM does this use?

  • Grrrr These things really go too quickly.
My 13-year old desktop died recently (probably a PSU issue) so I've been waiting for something to come up on here.

    • +1

stay posted to the listing. I'll update in the morning once all the machines have been allocated to orders. If there are any left i'll update the quantity.

      • I would be keen too please.

      • but isn't this alot cheaper @Manic at $200ish? Apart from the no wifi and ssd, the specs are more comparable for that price than the ones in the link right? Just a legit question as i'm no tech guru. am just looking for a cheap desktop and pair it up with a screen so that if my house is broken into they'll steal only something cheap. my laptop stays at my parents as they're nearby and have an alarm system :)

        • There are plenty of options around the same price.
I'd spend slightly more for one with USB3.

        • @manic: I've just noticed that lack of USB 3.0 and wi-fi (ethernet has become an issue in our home since the NBN "upgrade"). Not a deal breaker for me as I understand there has to be some compromise at this price, however I'm now concerned that my graphics card being of double height (taking up two expansion slots on the case) may not fit.
I'm not sure an SSF case is going to accomodate it afterall.

If I need to spend on a new graphics card, perhaps I should just try a new PSU in my old PC first.

          Thanks, Manic and Calmago.

        • @sam buster:

If I need to spend on a new graphics card, perhaps I should just try a new PSU in my old PC first.

You don't. The i7 integrated graphics are still way better than your old box, and will play plenty of games.
Intel CPUs have not changed much in the last 5 years, but before that changed hugely.
Is your dead box really 13 years old!? Pentium 4 !?

graphics card being of double height (taking up two expansion slots

That is width, not height, and is normal.

        • @manic: Bought in 2005. AMD Athlon x2 4400. However the graphics card was an upgrade c2011 - Sapphire Radeon HD 5670. It still seems a competent card and I have no idea what a modern equivalent or budget improvement would be - I had a quick look on MSY last night but I'm so out of touch. I'm not an intensive gamer, I just have a few 3D requirements and some old games that occasionally get played Football Manager and Lego games most modern but probably not the most demanding.
The old system also had Creative Audigy Soundblaster II sound card and 7.1 speakers, but I haven't set those up for years.
It didn't have wifi and I had it hooked up via Ethernet cable, but now the NBN box is the otherside of the house I would need to add wifi to either system.

        • @sam buster:
i noticed alot of my usb 3 external hdd's would lose power or cut off, for some reason usb 2.0 isn't an issues?

others told me to get a $13 wifi usb adapter to plug into the computer. Are these as reliable speed and connection wise as having a dedicated wifi card in the pc slot?

is it normal for SFF not to have a wireless card, or is it expensive to get one fitted in this? Or is it not possible?

Have never opened up a SFF so i am not sure if one can tinker with it like a normal sized hdd? been more than 15 years since i had a desktop.

        • @sam buster:

graphics card was an upgrade c2011 - Sapphire Radeon HD 5670.

thats pci-e isn't it, so would fit in a new box? Not sure, but i think it would still be worth using in a core i5/7 box.
low profile or full height? (google it)

        • @SaberX:

is it normal for SFF not to have a wireless card,

Yes, for a corporate box. They don't like messing with wifi.
A USB or pci-e N300 card is cheap and easy.

        • @manic:

would a pci-e n300 card fit in a box like this? How do I tell if this box can add one inside under the hood?

can you also outfit the thing to have usb3 ?

        • @manic:

Thanks, Manic - wanted to reply at the weekend but things got busy.
I'm going to have to look again from scratch I think.
I'll upload a pic of the graphics card when I get a chance, but I think it's probably a risk trying to fit it in an SFF case. Should maybe look for the next size up.

        • @SaberX:

yes, you'll see low-profile expansion slots on the back.

          usb3, yes, the same way.

Can u guys plz throw in a gtx1050i lp to sweeten the deal?

    • If you throw in some extra money ….

    • lol got negged for a bit of light hearted humour, cmon prove to me your dumbasses bet you cant.

      • how do you want peoples to prove their dumbasses???

        • missed the edit cut off, my bad

  • Will it be easy adding a SSD into this??

    • Listing said there is a spare slot for a 3.5" HDD, you could get a 3.5" > 2.5" adapter and throw an SSD in there. That's what ill be doing

      • so the adapter converts the 2.5" into a 3.5" connector? Would the speed/data transfer etc. still work like any other slot designed for a 2.5" directly would given your using the adapter?

        • The adapter only mounts the smaller SSD into the bigger HDD slot. The data and power cables are the same as a normal HDD

        • @bgktmxg:

thanks. yeap so cables stay the same so it's just its physical mounting onto the mobo that needs to be adapter mounted.

that's not too bad then. but then if you want the OS on the SSD you would have to reinstall the OScorrect? can one do that with this sort of purchase, i mean would you get a working license key that can reinstall?

  • Saw the big thread above with the negs and hidden from view about the windows OS. Just abit curious being not tech savvy. BUt win 7 COA's is that liek the sticker underneath your laptops, that allow a reset to factory OS from the built in recovery partition?

Would it work if you installed windows 7 and used the OEM license key, or do you nee the specific OS included on the laptop/computer's OS recoevry partition to use those sticker license keys?

ANd then the whole conversation about windows 10 and whether it was uploaded before a certain date in 2016? I assume pre this date win 10 upgrades were free and once you did it once your win 7 became a permanent win 10 license? If after the date then any reform or the like means you would only be able to reinstall windows 7 OS using the COA included on this listing, and not get back to windows 10?

Also how does the newer windows work in terms of resources. i have an old windows 7 home premium laptop: asus n53sv series model. (N53sv-SX581v to be exact)and wondering if older generation laptops if upgraded to win 8 or win 10 would they technically be slower, as its old hardware running the latest OS? Or would these new OS technically be lighter and you'd see a performance increase?

In the past if you had windows 2000 or something and win xp an upgraded you would find your computer too old/underpowered to handle the next OS up… not sure if that's how things work these days??

  • Just drummed up 8 more units and that's all that's left.

    • Thanks. Out of curiosity, do you get newer PCs from time to time, with say USB3.0 and SSD? Looking to spend around $400-ish and spend a little more to upgrade/convert into a cheapish gaming PC that can handle dual screens.

      • +1

Easy. Look for an ex-corporate Optiplex 9010 or later, or HP 8300, and add your own SSD. Make sure is has 8GB, not 4.

      • Yeah, take a look through these options here

        http://stores.ebay.com.au/Australian-Computer-Traders/Deskto…

There are some 9020 i7's with 16gb Ram and 256Gb SSD. And a GPU and you've gota damn decent machine there. They are selling very well at the moment

    • sigh gone in 57 mins.. WA time here.. just woke up 10 minutes ago.. had the comp on waiting for this. what abummer!

      • WA, So far away you might as well just keep going.

Shoot us a message on eBay requesting a unit with your OZbargin user name and i'll see what I can do for you.

        • Will do shortly, if not tonight.

If you can scrounge up anything similar that'd be great. Or even if it is slightly diff i wouldn't mind some modifications - more so for the wifi on board, but otherwise it's just for a simple computer setup :) hence the hope to get a good affordable price.
