I just bought one of these for $697 from JB Hifi…

  • What can this do that a $519 Sony XAV-AX100 can't?

    • Slightly smaller (7" vs 6.4") and if you have a Pioneer on their website, it comes with a free reverse camera.

    • Kenwood has DAB, extra USB connector, extra camera input, amongst a few other small items. To be honest, the user interface looks nicer on the Sony.

I have the Kenwood, and find the UI a bit confused. Functional, just not pretty.

    • Kinda comparing apples and oranges here. Few differences mentioned already, Kenwood has DAB+, Air Mirroring, ADAS dashcam input/control, 2x Bluetooth connection at same time, 2x USB, and whatever else I can't think of…

Edit: good chance this model will be replaced with a 2018 model any day now, considering the DDX9016DABS was released in 2016, and this model last year.

    • The Sony XAV-AX100 is also a single din unit with a screen that sits proud - it may not be suitable for all vehicles / fascia kits because of its non-standard size

      • No it's not. The Sony is a double-DIN.

        • I think jmoore626 meant a single DIN chassis with double DIN face.

        • Good luck mounting it in a single-DIN housing though.

    • Sony has a volume knob which I cannot live without! But Sony's touch screen is so bad.

      • agree on the volume knob. Buttons don't translate well to car stereos for this sort of thing (unless they're on your steering wheel)

  • PIONEER MVH-Z5050BT which is equally capable of this is $549.00( + reverse cam as a bonus) on their own website.

    • Pioneer doesn't do DAB digital radio, has a resistive touch screen, only one camera input and only one USB amongst a few other small differences. Kenwood were also doing a free reverse camera last month, unsure if still on offer. Unit is also upgradable to full navigation and comes with an external GPS antennae for time sync.

hey store rep if you can get near this, i'd be keen as mustard

or even this (pre cash back of course) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/347033

  • For those that want to know - i believe this model is a great option to swap out the head unit in a Subaru Forester 15-17 models - can pair with the Subaru Forester Kicker speakers (they are great as the speakers are a perfect fit - just plug in: not the same as Alpine, pioneer in terms of superior sound quality etc, but much better than the factory crap they have installed). Here is the installation video: https://carboncarsystems.com.au/shop/complete-stereo-solutio…

brilliant unit, cream of the crop. those who havent seen it or used it, i understand ur reluctance.

i had ryda install it for me last month (on 20% ebay specials) and its the bees knees!

  • anyone know how to keep the factory toyota reverse camera to this head unit?the plug is different. my car is toyota aurion 2011, i think it use 24 pin. . thanks.

    • Will be 16 pin, factory camera is powered by 6v, Aerpro do a kit to suit. You'll also need 10mm trims to fill the Toyota 200mm space.

  • I shelled out ~$1500 for the Kenwood DNX7300BT a few years ago and still have it and have been so unhappy with it. Had so many problems and Kenwood are less than helpful. Also map updates they want to charge me $180 to buy a new SD card. Really put me off buying a Kenwood ever again. Really liking the look of the Alpine iLX-107.

    • Yeah my last Kenwood was a piece of shit too. I'll be sticking with Sony or Alpine from now on.
