    This has been my main tv for a few years - I can recommend it. It is a little bit slow to start up - you can't change the channel for 15 seconds or so but at this price who cares.

      Does this have built in Android TV? A Sony TV I purchased a short while ago did and it was me favorite TV software I've used.

      Edit: nevermind, this is the same model. Highly recommended to for this price.

        Yeah! Apps are great on it. VLC, Games, etc. I put Soul Calibur on my TV. I put that on now and then for a quick bash.

          Well if it doesn't have full Android then I don't recommend this.

    • Same situation.. added a Chromecast.. can't fault it, great picture and well built. Priced about right though….

    Why all 4K tv's seems to have more brightness then normal FHD ? Anyone can answer this to me ?

    Just return Phillips Smart TV after 5 days of use . Picture was awful washed out no matter what settings you try . Not to mention build and only 12 months warranty . Ended up buying Hisensec 43 inch FHD for $600 @JB . Very nice picture color no need to spend hours setting up anything and plus 3 years warranty .

      I don't agree with this. I know a lot of FHD screens that have very good brightness!

    I've got the 55 FHD Sony kdl55w800c.

    I'm assuming this is very similar in specs. Very happy with my TV :) 4K content looks good on it (even though it's 1080P). Personally have no reason to upgrade any time soon!

    • after the recent firmware update i have issues casting PLEX to the built in chromecast….

      • I recall having similar issue. What I ended up doing was uninstalling and reinstalling the inbuilt chrome cast app.

          Why don't you just install the Plex app on the TV? That way you just have Plex media player talking direct to the Plex media server. Instead of Plex smartphone app talking to the Plex server then casting to Chromecast..

      No the W800C are 100hz with full Android, This however is only 50hz with limited app's (Cant add anymore to it)

        Bought this for $999 2 years ago. very good - was one of the first with Freeeview. sadly due to limited internal storage Freeview and streaming apps always crashing out.

      I had (have?) this exact tv until 2 weeks ago when my 21 month old kid threw a die cast car across the room… and it hit the tv… Nice cracked screen and i cant see a picture now.

      Bought it 23 months ago for $1200 or so from the good guys with a 20% off ebay promo. It was a fairly old model then but they kept stocking it as the rep told me they weren't really making 60" full hd's anymore, but it filled a good gap price wise so Sony kept making it.

      Had no complaints with it. Ours gets used with the netflix app etc.. fairly regularly and no issues

    My only gripe with the firmware on SONY tvs is the failure on SONY's part to allow for bluetooth headphones to connect.

  • Good tv for the kids with the Nintendo Switch. Switch max res is 1080p unlike the new Xbox.
    Also good for many, many old movies and the like.
    Also for Foxtel, free to air - their max res is 1080i.
    We have Sony 65w850c FHD. Good family unit.

    For those who don't know the letter reflects the model year.

    The reviews are bad…

    • I already have a Sony Android TV & although I knew this TV didn't have the same Operating System I thought there would be more apps included or available to download.
      99% of the apps in the Opera Store are rubbish & of no interest to Australian residents. Also watching sport on this TV is not as nice as my W850C
      Some more standard apps like Spotify, iView, 9Now etc would be nice.
      I guess I should have checked out the TV in store first instead of buying online.

    • Pretty much the oly decent app is netflix which crashes continuously. The browser is useless completely not user friendly. No blutooth!?!? Only got this tv because we got it on a sale but even now I wish i didn't buy it

    • I got it 3 months ago and it's the worst tv I've ever owned. The browser is rubbish, I can't watch a game of football without it buffering every 20 seconds. Sales rep told me it was 100 hz refresh rate which it isn't. It's 60. The lack of apps is very disappointing. I got it for $999 and I should have just flushed that money down the toilet. DO NOT BUT THIS TV.

    • We use the 850c only as a dumb TV for HDMI inputs.
      Don't expect much out of the little processor.
      BTW the speakers on the 850c are pretty good, unlike the latest 4k skinny things.

      Seems to only be complaints about the apps on the TV. I've never seen any TV with decent inbuilt apps. You're always better off with an external box.

      Sony has always had a markup for the brand name alone. I can remember the good old days when it was well worth it and I'm only 34..

      I bought the TCL 55C2US for $716 recently at good guys ebay store. It is both 4k and full android. I have the Sony 75X8500D (full android) also as my main tv. Whilst not as good as the Sony it is still a cracking tv for the price.

      Best wait till the next ebay/good guys sale and pick one up then

      • @Chetnik73 agree 100%. Got this from the Good Guys during their last 20% off sale - $714 and for the price I actually think it's a great buy (Bargain even).

        Way over-priced for the RRP $1,599.00 but on sale you can't beat the quality provided.

  • Good price, but coming from someone who upgraded from a FHD 55" Sony to a 4k, it's a good idea to hold off and get yourself a 4k. Plus it doesn't have android (can be a good thing sometimes as android loves to crash)

    If for some reason you're looking for a cheap 55" FHD and only that, then it's worth it. There may be cheaper options out there, but I love that Sony have 3.5mm audio out. Makes it easy to plug in a Bluetooth audio transmitter so that I can use my Bluetooth headphones without disturbing anyone.

    You're just paying for the brand, take that away and this TV isn't a good deal.

  • Amazing picture quality and colors. My brother who has a samsung and an LG both, is always amazed by pciture quality he sees whenever he visits me.

    The only bad part the channel numbers are sorted by string i.e the sequence goes like 1,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,2,20,21
