$1700 for a mobile phone you say…. ok

    • -2

You would need to be getting sex pretty regularly to buy that phone for your mrs.

Im gonna wait for a 5G phone. Cant be bothered changing when its gonna get released next year again

    • Hope they increase the data limit on plans by then.

  • Gonna give a call to OW

    • will they beat the price?

    • If they even have stock … everywhere near me is out of stock

I have Iphone 5 for the last 5 years now and I will wait till IPhone X is sold for 1000$ ..

    • You'll be waiting another 5 years.

      • +1

That may not be true . Iphone 5 was released 5 years ago and it was around 890$ then. You can get 5s for 200$ today. The number of versions Apple has released for iPhones only will go on helping reduce the prices earlier than they have before.

  • Can I claim TRS refund at the airport?

Still can't believe Apple is set on selling a rubbish phone that willl expire in 2 years for the price of a really good laptop!!

    • lol… cheap compared to my first "mobile" phone

      now get off my lawn

    • They might last longer now they got caught out with their planned obsolescence

    • Use patterns for laptops is decreasing for a lot of people. So they may rather spend the money on a phone and get a cheap laptop instead.

      • I think usage patterns are still fairly similar. Are people not word processing, web browsing, and playing games on laptops anymore? If anything usage is increasing with better mobility and all day battery life. I know many people that have in fact jumped from desktop to laptop… Not so much from laptop to phone. (I do know a few people that think an iPad or iPad Pro is a computer also)

  • 128GB iPhone 7 (with GST for TRS claim) offer? :)

    • Sorry no stock at the moment it is getting hard to get

      • +1

Because nobody is buying the newer ones!

Can this deal be negged on the grounds that a 1700 mobile phone provides no value whatsoever?

    • +2

Neg the deal, not the product.

      • +4

Exactly. I'm sick of ppl here whining that it's too expensive for a phone. What should be debated is if the deal is any good, not that Apple suck because they charge too much. What people choose to spend their money on is their business. If someone really wants this phone, then it is far better to pay $1700 than $1800.

        • -2

The deal is for the product, the product is the deal.

    • To you maybe… a discount is a discount. Hence why this website is called OzBargain not OzValue.

      • So if Holden sells the Cruze for 20k new, but 60% if them are lemons, and someone sells one for 19k, does that mean it's a deal? And is it off limits to suggest another car? I think not. Even an iPhone 8 is better than this deal.

This phone makes sense to almost no one, and while I agree for people for whom money is no object may want to p!ss it away on whatever they like and even be encouraged to do so for the betterment of society, it's a terrible deal and people who otherwise need to sell a kidney shouldn't be seeing this thread and thinking buying one is a great idea.

        • +1

Your analogy makes no sense at all… a lemon is a lemon and the deal will be negged for that, a good or services that doesn't deliver what it supposed to do. There are plenty of negs on this site for that type of situation.

The iPhone X works as intended, and making sweeping generalisations about it making sense to almost no one seems like someone who isn't the phone's target market.

I enjoy the X purely because it is an excellent phone, sure there are cheaper phones (especially the ones in the in the Galaxy and Pixel camps) but it works for me and finally I can have an OLED screen on an iPhone. However I do swap phones regularly and I have swapped from an iPhone X to a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X when I went away (somewhere where I had reception and I am on Optus) purely for the fact that the phone is a juggernaut on battery life. Sure the camera was shite when in not ideal situations but the phone worked for the situation I was in.

I didn't need to a sell a kidney to buy one and I don't buy a flagships every year. The last flagship I actually purchased with my own money was in 2014 which was the Note 4 which I came from a Note 3.

So a deal is a deal regardless. If it is a deal go ahead and neg the deal.

        • @jlogic: it's actually more similar than you think. Issues I have with the iPhone X is that the price is nuts, and is so because it's set by the manufacturer and insulated from market forces by tight control of the manufacturing volumes and distribution of those as such. There are philosophical reasons why that is bad, the good part is that it gives rich people a way to dispose of their money, but it ends up just going to a mega corporations in this case.

The reason I draw the similarity is because Holden makes a car that also isn't worth the money you pay for all sorts of reasons, including that it's prone to breakdown and if that happens its poorly supported. Holden then pitches and sells thus car as equivalent to other manufacturers cars but in reality it isn't. While this isn't the case necessarily the case with the IPhone X (I am sure its reliable and well supported), Apple pitches this phone as better than other flagships, and an uninformed person may think it is, however really key key difference between this an other flagships is the fact that it runs iOS. A perfectly good iOS phone can be had for less, and a flagship of any other platform can be had for less. As such, people shouldn't think that they are getting a deal IMO. The price difference charged doesn't warrant and OLED over the 8 IMO.

Having said that, I get why the rules of the site are the way there are, but I think a lot of people don't understand this and and think an OzBargain deal=a deal in real life

  • Very disappointed with their IOS update that slows down older devices… I've vbeen using iPhone for 7yrs now.. and most likely will switch to Poxel on my next upgrade

Not impressed with their software after Steve jobs time

  • I thought Apple were claiming these things were in short supply, yet every man and his dog is throwing them out at "discounted" prices**
** No matter the discount you're always paying too much.

This phOne is narrower than iPhone PLUS thus makes reading less enjoyable , and the lack of HOME button is annoying me now as my right thumb is really numb before bed time from repetitive swiping up. ( I might consider suing Apple for RSI - class action anyone ? )

    • +1

You’re doing it wrong. Home button gone is just about the best thing about the X.

  • -1

Lol @ the sheep who would consider paying laptop prices for a phone

    • +2

If they have a lot of wool let then spin it.

      I don’t care.

      • perfect reply to a boring repetitive and unimaginative comment

        • +1

I know right… I use tech items from the lowest spectrum of price up to the highest I can reasonably afford. But as soon as I use something that is thought to be of low value, the bandwagon jumps on you.

        • @jlogic:

I’ve recently changed iPhones; from a 6 to an SE purely because I find the form factor to be better for me.

Everyone i know with pluses are of the opinion that I have downgraded (despite me pointing out that it has 6s internals, longer battery life)…. they look at the price and size and tell me… “no, you have downgraded”. They say it seriously. I just agree with them now; it’s easier.

        • @Eeples: hahaha I got that when I switched from a 4S to a Note 2. The disdain was clear and complaints were clear. Why are you using a tablet for a phone etc.

Whatever works man is what I say these days.

However I do laugh at the iPad folk who use it to take photos as their primary camera. Just looks funny to see them chasing or framing.

  • Just been to Apple last night to get a refund on my sons IPhone X. Camera stopped working. Would turn itself off. Then he dropped it in water for a few seconds and stopped working altogether. It’s water resistant but they said it’s not covered under warranty for water, even though it’s a feature of the phone. The ACCC have advised otherwise. I would not recommend the X. There was a table full of IPhone X problems at their store last night and they don’t give you a new phone. They swap for a refurb. Criminal for the price people pay for the phone.

    • How did the refund process go? Were they reluctant?

      • +1

They wouldn’t give a refund. Just a refurb phone. We asked for a new phone and they said we had to get one online because we ordered online. Rang online today and they said you can only do that in store. It was going to be a battle so decided to go a refurb even though the phone is a couple of months old. Disappointing but if we have any other problems with the phone, we will take them to small claims tribunal. We are entitled to a refund and they wouldn’t give it.

        • Ahh sucks to hear your experience with them, hope the refurb phone doesn't cause any problems!
