eBay 20% off Sale - The Usual Price Jack Has Started

Surprise surprise… the price jack has begun.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-AORUS-GeForce-GTX-1080T…

I added this to my watch list on Saturday when it was $1190. Today, it's $1309.

Is this misleading conduct by the seller - inflating prices prior to a sale? I'm sick of this 'sale' bullshit. Is this something Consumer Affairs or the ACCC would be interested in?

Edit: seems Kogan got done for a similar practice so maybe it is something the ACCC would like to know about!

Edit 2: Here's the link to report it to ACCC: https://www.accc.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-accc/report-a…

Edit 3: Company name: Austin Computers, ABN: 69780893412 - get reportin'!

EDIT 4: ARE YOU KIDDING ME, THEY RAISED THE PRICE AGAIN! IT'S NOW $1367.

Edit 5: As @nickxau pointed out, it's an obscene $1482 now, almost 22% higher than it was on Saturday.

Mod: We have removed the unobtainable deals (due to a price increase after being posted) and merged them below (5 in total), note that many were posted before this thread was made, so they will appear at the top of the comments section below. See original mod comment and discussion here. Please note that other unobtainable deals which were removed due to combining an existing sale (6 in total) which finished before this 20% off sale started weren't merged (not related to a price increase and never possible/available).

Update 19 Jan 11:40am: The eBay deal posting guidelines have been updated to reflect new requirement that deals requiring coupon codes can only be posted on the day the coupon becomes live.

    • Wonder if CC price protection will work for eBay codes for those who paid $1700 ?

      • I've used CC price protection on eBay 20% off purchases.

You need to decide whether to claim the 80% price you paid as full price..
Or claim you paid 80% on credit card and 20% by other means and get 80% of the reduction (works out more $$ back but credit card company will probably ask for invoice showing the 100% price)

        • checked the BW zero pds and says 21 days and no online stores…wtf useless.

my old 28 degrees had 6 months which was actually slightly useful.

          • @noise36: Yep, I pay for absolutely everything (except AMEX cashback deals) on my Coles Mastercard, which has 2 years price protection, and no minimum price drop (used to be $10).

          • @noise36: @systmworks: Is it worth paying 1% extra?

          • @noise36: @haru: I dont pay 1% extra.. the 1% only applies to outstanding balance at the end of the billing month.

1% of $0 is $0 (eg free price protection) if you pay your credit card balance off each month.

Of course this does not work if you intend on putting a large amount on the card and leaving it on there for many months (not only would you get 1% fee per month, but also 19% pa interest).

      • Some CC schemes states item must have been purchased in full using the CC.

        • Some might - mine doesnt.. if I pay for 70% of an item on the card, I can claim 70% of the price drop, its pro-rata.
Confirmed with the credit card company, and I have used it this way.

    • Better get the C7 model from TGG instead.

      • Same panel as the B7 and has been superseded by it & $600 cheaper. The only difference is that the C7 has Dolby Atmos internal speaker, black external bezel (Silver with the B7) and the base feet is wider

        • +1

That Dolby Atmos internal speaker worth more than gold.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: Ok, but then you can spend the $600 savings with the B7 on a dedicated AV receiver and some cheap speaker setup. Even if you add another $200 to it. I'm sure it will sound way better than a TV speaker.
Having said that, if the C7T was priced a little more than the B7, I would have purchased the C7 for sure.
They are a needle in a haystack now and hard to find. Not impossible however pricey.
On Boxing Day sales, one GG outlet had a C7 on display and wouldn't even budge off their RRP.
            Cheers

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Even $1500 sound bars are crap with atmos! I’d hate soo see how bad this thing is for $600 more. Talk about a great way to ruin an excellent visual experience by skimping in sound. Sheesh

          • @[Deactivated]: @T1OOO:
            LOL agree!

Tbh, if you really want the immersive sound, you have to at least get a minimum of 5.1 standard, or 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos setup (with 2 ceiling speakers if it is possible) … and I am not talking about a cheapie package where the receiver is half-decent and the speakers are tiny & less than entry level to offset the cheaper cost.

Ideally, i would get a 7.2.2 or 7.2.4 system if the room allows it.

            Cheers

Specific product deal posts for eBay sales shouldn't be allowed before it's live imo. Obvious track record reasons why …

    • Anyone know what happens when you're not home for delivery, does it have to get redelivered, stored at a warehouse or some other location in Sydney?

    • +1

$77 delivery! But in all of Canberra there are literally two units left.

      • +1

I know that the GG special is not on ATM but I would wait for another GG/Ebay 10 - 20% off deal.
You have the options to pick up hence save on delivery (obviously if your car has the space)
So Boxing Day's special was $1699 pick up. If you add this price plus $77 = $1671.40 so not much difference.
I reckon that GG's will have another sale soon. Especially with the new release on next gen panels in a couple of months
        Cheers

        • But no GGs stocks this TV in Canberra. I just spoke to a Bing Lee rep who said LG is bringing in more stock to Australia within the next week or so.

        • Why is picking up better than delivery?

          • @Eeples: I guess you can be sure it’s being transported correctly (upright).

          • @Eeples: @gadget:

            That's what confuses me.

I have purchased this recently and the instructions literally illustrate to lie the TV down flat to place the bottom feet LOL.
            Double standards in my view!

            Cheers

          • +1

@Eeples: because you don't have to pay the delivery fee - $77.00 mentioned above

          • @Eeples: @MicMac:

Sure, but it’s still cheaper with the delivery charge…. (than the other expired deal)

        • Pretty sure most of the boxing day specials are sold out country wide, I wouldn't hold out..

          • @solidussnake: I went to GG yesterday; although they had it advertised for $2499 now, the store rep still said he will sell it for $1888 (Original Boxing Day price)
            Cheers

        • Totally agree!!
I was lucky to spot TGG boxing day special on eBay (thanks to Ozbargain) and got this for $1,699 pick up from their Belco store. The Good Guys now have it at $2499, but none available in ACT.
For $1,600 + delivery this is equivalent.
BTY - the TV is brilliant! This is currently the 'best' at an amazing price. Why would you wait another year or so when you can enjoy excellent viewing in the meantime.
          Cheers

Hey guys if you wait until 2050. You’ll have motionLED, the picture bypasses your eyes and goes directly to your head where your receptors are fully engaged. Being able to feel, smell and sense what is being broadcast.

      All in full HD.

I don’t know why you’d bother with anything less tbh.

    • So what happens if you need warranty service if you live outside Brissie ? Send it back to LG?

    • any image retention or burn-in issues with this TV. Does the warranty cover burn-in.

      • +1

I have had the B7T from Boxing Day sales and have used this continuously for gaming.
No issues so far. It is an awesome TV and in my view, you can't get better for the money.
        Cheers

      • NO thats just samsungs marketing team.

    • I was waiting out for the price to drop to get the Sony 55” x9000e. Am I better off getting one of these? TV is for my bedroom and I really just use it to watch Netflix, Stan, Foxtel and internet streaming. I will need Bluetooth connection for wireless headphones.

      • +1

Yes. The B7 Web OS is way better than the Sony Android OS. I think it has Bluetooth however never used it.

      $1,982.40 at Betta EBAY..

    • What's the best 65inch tv for console gaming?

      • Check rtings.com although they don't have the Panasonic's which are great too. OLED LG is best for price

      • The absolute "best" will probably cost about $20,000 or more.
Might be an idea to specify your budget ie .. best 65 inch tv for console gaming under $3,000 (or whatever your budget is) :)

      • The 65" LG OLED C7.

    • Have a 65 inch LG 4K Tv now for my gaming as well as computer monitor, and it is beautiful to game in 4k using a 1080ti. Am waiting for the c7 65 inch to come down in price so I can replace it with the new TV. However, image retention problem is something in my mind for using the OLED as a computer monitor.

      • What model is your LG? 65UH770T by any chance?
I am using the B7 as a PC monitor whilst typing you this text and it is fantastic!
        No issues for me!
        Cheers

        • 65ug870t picked it up when it was on sale back in Q4 of 2015 :)
The computer/PS4 PRO/XboneS all look beautiful. I don't have HDR on it though.

          • @shadowarrior: Ok cool.
I have the B7 and the 55UH770T which is a 2016 model. It is a 120Hz refresh rate unit (although 60Hz @ 4K) and is not too bad for gaming. However it is an IPS panel and has slight DSE.
I can tell you, the 770T is not as good as the B7 however it is not too far behind.
            Cheers

    • Really need to get a 65" or larger due to viewing distance. However, this is an awesome deal for OLED. Must resist!!

    • The HDR comment trail was unpublished before I could read it all. What's the verdict on HDR via HDMI: yay or nay?

      • Of course it does.

    • Might be be a dumb question but what do people watch on TV these days? I can never find anything worthwhile, be it FTA or Netflix etc

Price will jump up by then. Good price if it doesn't go up though.

This OLED TV is about the price of an iPhone X.

    • -1

Was going to jump all over this but then saw a video claiming LG are putting slightly lower binned panels in the B7 and C7 models (slightly less peak brightness and slightly more prone to image retention) and 2018 models have black frame insertion. Price is really good though and still kinda want it. Might go look at it in store and if the pic is good might buy it anyway. Been waiting since 2013.

    • I bought my first 4k tv (42 inch Hisense for $300) . Then was frustrated when xbox one s , ps4 pro, and my 4k discs, all give me messages suggesting I need HDR colour to get best use out of the game/film/console.
Does HDR 10bit colour make a big difference to visual experience and enjoyment ? (Compared to 8bit colour).
Also, would I be right in assuming that any OLED tv would also be HDR (10bit colour) ?
Note: I have been planning to upgrade, then use current 4k tv for my bedroom tv, ever since I found out it was lacking, and sooooo annoying getting contantly reminded with onscreen warning message every time I play a UHD film.

      • +3

        Yes, the B7T is HDR10.
        That is HDR10 = 8Bit Native + 2bit dithering and not full native HDR10.
Would native HDR10 make a difference? Not sure. Some sites suggest not much.

        I have 3 x UHD TVs.

        The cheapie JVC $326 deal ~ 2015/2016 deal, the LG UH770T & the B7T.
The B7 smashes them all in every way.

Once you get OLED, you won't look back!

        Cheers

        • Thanks for the info. Interesting to get feedback from someone with several 4k tv of different specs.
So the JVC im assuming that is 4k 8bit colour .
What about the LG UH770T model you have, ie. Is that HDR but not OLED ? Or is that one non-HDR no-OLED .
If the LG in HDR but not OLED, It would be interesting to know if there is much difference between the LG UH770 and JVC?
I understand the B7 smashes them all, which is great.
          Cheers

          • +1

@ozzpete: Apologies as I forgot to make a correction.

According to the LG site, the B7T is Native 10Bit panel. However it only hits 8Bit when I connect it to my GTX1080.
Because 4K @ 60Hz, 4:4:4 Chroma only can display 8Bit and not 10Bit due to the limitations of the Bandwidth of HDMI2.0a (of the TV, although the GTX1080 is HDMI2.0b) <= 18Gbps.

            You will only get 10Bit, 4K @ 60Hz; 4:2:0 chroma.

You need larger bandwidth to support full chroma @ 10Bit, such as HDMI 2.1

My JVC has 4K @ 60Hz 4:4:4 8Bit (not sure if 10bit due to HDMI limitations), however has no HDR & a dumb TV.

The LG UH770T is a 2016 model, has HDR10 (8+2) not native however is an IPS LED/LCD model.

The LG smashes the JVC, and is more closer quality to the OLED. It has a 120Hz panel and was considered at the time, the recommended TV for HDR gaming and a mid-tier panel.

The JVC is a cheapie but suprisingly ok for a 4K panel. However you cannot compare this unit to the mainstream panels. The panel quality is OK. After working with the others, yeah … it's ordinary. I use this as a primary PC monitor due to its size, 49" It lacks nits/contrast IMO.

If i had the opportunity, I will replace the JVC with the Sony 49X9000E however to get that is a needle in a haystack/expensive. OLED TV's start from 55"

The OLED is the best. Period!

            Cheers

          • @ozzpete: @vinni9284:
Thanks verry much vinni for the detailed info.
Im convinced I must go at least up to HDR , hopefully jump straight to OLED if my budget can allow for it and there is a good deal.
I guess my current Hisense panel is something close to your JVC . It is technically 4k I guess, buy I purchased it with no or little knowledge of the different types of 4k and different 4k standards.
Am looking forward to upgrading to something that smashes current tv regarding picture quality :)
            Cheers

          • +1

            @ozzpete: @ozzpete:
            You're welcome.

I would say that your Hisense would be better than my JVC tbo.

The B7T has been jacked up towards $2.5K now however if I were you, I would wait for the release of the B8T in March/April.
When the next model gets released, they will discount the B7T possibly i reckon towards $1400 mark imo.

That's when you prance and you won't look back. Buy a proper TV if you can afford in the first place, so you don't continously spend.

There is too much scaremongering on OLED Image Retention/Burn in issues however I have not really experienced it.
There is a setting on the TV to clear the pixels and you can use this once a month/whenever you feel like it.

            I hope this helps.

            Cheers

    • Had a look at the display model at local JB, how come the picture is blurry and grainy? why this TV has so much hype on it?

      • The amount of hype would imply your experience is not widely shared.

Maybe you ought to ask your local JB those questions.

        (I did not neg you).

    • Will they jack the price?

    • Delivery:
Estimated between Wed. 7 Feb. and Tue. 13 Feb.

takes a whole month to deliver???

      • There out of stock till April

    • Just saying, it doesn't actually seem like there is immediate payment required, so I'm pretty sure you can just buy it now and pay on the day. Happens for most other listings in the sale, but not videopro by the looks of it.

    • The price of this comes down to $1651.47 with cash rewards, + delivery. Pretty damn good IMO!

    • Hmmmm decisions, decisions. Want but don't really need. Would like to upgrade from my Sony 42" I've had for 7 years. I think maybe I should hold off for the newer models and wait for a price drop.

      • I think when the new models (B8) comes out they will stop stocking and selling the old models (B7)?
and the price will go up to 3000……and gradually drop down throughout the year, and to the lowest point near boxing day. and then repeat.
        correct me if im wrong

        • Sounds about right for this model. They don't sell B6 anymore.

If you're Apple though, you just cut $100 off the last gen model and call it a day.

    • Does anyone know what time 'tomorrow' is?

    • +7

      And up she goes……$2473

      • +2

That's some serious jacking. I'm surprised YouPorn is still online.

      • Oh well, shame. At least I will still have money in my pocket. Hopefully, TGG will have a similar special to their Boxing Day one soon.

      • +5

So disappointingly predictable. Such a scummy move on Videopro's part.

The OPs post should be altered accordingly.

    • +1

Guys video pro have no stock till end of April so if you want to wait over 3 months then sure buy it

      • +1

Which is pretty screwed. As eBay doesn't allow backorders. Every item sold on eBay is supposed to be in stock ready to ship.

    • +7

I should add that since the price hike, it'll now be $1978.40 after discount.

A whopping $14 or so saving from the original listing price - incredible work fellas!

    • +9

Another example of why deals shouldn't be posted until eBay sales start. False hope.

    • Was debating this until the price hike. Now I’ll wait for a TGG or BL deal so I can buy locally thanks.

    • +4

      Report them to ACCC

      • Wouldn't they just say that we ran out of the lower priced stock and that these cost us more? I am not sure the ACCC has the resources to investigate so such returns?

I guess all the details are available via ozbargins so they could just hit them with a fine!

Every time I have been into the Fortitude Valley store it's just a whole bunch of guys pretending to he busy and showing me various computer screens for reasons why they cannot price match and to tell me they are already losing money on the deal.

      • I'm wondering, considering eBay can see this practice happening, does the law then state that since eBay are effectively part of the business deal (they get a %), then they are a) complicit in such practices and b) are under an obligation to report such practices to the ACCC?

    • It's expired? Sale hasn't even started yet.

      • I think that's a record. 0 sold.

    • +1

How about we all buy it now, without actually paying, ask to cancel, then throw in negative feedbacks to videopro.

      • Won't work. You have to pay immediately to 'buy' it.

    • +2

Price has been jacked as expected. Don't know why all these deals were posted as this always happens

    • +1

      PRICE JACKASSES!
