I bought two of these before Christmas for same price, with free Steam Cards but also a free copy of Wolfenstein 2 on PC.

Sold the two SteamLinks on eBay ($52 with postage for one, $66 with postage for the other), meaning I walked away with $40 profit (after posting the items), $40 in Steam cards and the free copy of Wolfenstein (which I was gonna buy for $59 anyway).

Total = $139 of value, for free.

    • Yeah that was a great deal which is partly why I can't get myself to pull the trigger on this deal. A new release PC game with this deal would have sealed it for me.

  • +1

    Bought Ryu! $4 good bargain

    • Same here, couldn't pass it up for $4

      • Yeah, couldn't resist $4 deal. Wished they have other street fighters characters

  • After the last steamlink deal they sill have stock?

I found that it is only good if the game support controller if you want to use controller to play.

BTW, I am not sure what I have set it wrong. It was playing good with COD Black OP 3 after playing around with controller settings for some reason in game the controller like a mouse now.

    • They finally got more stock in, hence the sale I guess.
      It took a while.

  • Already have the new SNES 8bitdo controller coming in the post but that's a really good deal for the black one, so tempted…

    • +1

Me too but had to grab the nes30 pro on my lunch break. Too good to pass up.

  • +1

Why can’t I use my gift card online, but stupid

  • +3

Note if you have a recent samsung TV you have the Steamlink app available on their app store for free which works just as well as the box.

    • How do you get it? I can't see it when I searched on my KS8000.

      • Go to Apps menu and search for Steam is how I got it.

I can't remember what category it's in, but there are almost no apps in their store so should be easy to find!
Sorry can check when i get home if still not found it later.

Also I updated TV firmware before searching, may have helped

  • In store too?

    • Unless it states 'Exclusive online price only'.

  • Everyone's grabbing the Ryu Amiibo? Does it even work with any games now? Switch?

    • The Smash Bros series only do something special with the Wiiu / 3ds Smash.

In some switch games like Mario / Zelda swiping any Amiibo will still give you a generic reward like some coins or a random chest.

      • Ryu probably doesn’t do anything but in games of a relevant franchise the Smash equivalent often does more than an Amiibo Of another franchise. For example the various Mario Amiibo are often interchangeable. The Smash Zelda Amiibo have special functions in BotW etc,

I don’t think Ryu does anything special at this time though so would be pretty generic for Switch releases.

      • No idea if Amiibo works on the Switch. Looks like only the unpopular ones left anyway except Ryu

  • Does the gift card/credit have an expiry or can you save it for the next end of year sale?

    • +1

It's a steam gift card for the value of $20. Add it now, don't spend it - unless you are expecting a shift in currency, no reason you wouldn't add the $20 to your steam account now?

    • +1

There will be a big steam sale sooner than that. The biggest ones are about 4 times a year.

  • Newbie here…
Do i need to buy steam controller in order to use steam link?

    Thx guys and girls…

    • +1

      Nope!

    • +2

You can use a 360, PS4 or Xbox One controller.

  • lol rip

  • +1

Anyone know if the 8Bitdo controllers would pair with the Steamlink? Seems like a nice little bundle to put together to me if it'd work.

    • They will. Probably PC mode, but could in any mode, I imagine. You’d have to try it to work out which mode works best.

  • +1

thanks, i hope my new dell pc arrives tomorrow so i get to use the new steam link

  • +2

I just picked up my Steam Link. And i didn't have any game controller pad so i got the Steam Controller pad for the $60 well it's designed for it. The receipt shows the Steam Link as $9 and $20 Steam gift card. So they are almost giving the Steam Link away.

And yes it comes with an actual $20 Steam gift card.

    • I think my Google chrome cast 2 image quality sorted for $29 + $20 steam credit!

      • What's the Chromecast got to do with the Steamlink?.

        • +1

This does the same job and more, cheaper + $20 steam credit

        • @pal: but only from a PC right?

        • @Jackson: Right. Windows, OSx and Linux, I guess you can't stream from your mobile device unless you do some modifications, use a custom ROM or a third-party app like Kodi. It might be impossible, but I do not own this and have not tried. Anyway it is an acceptable deal for what it is.

  • +1

Ordered a bunch of items and selected store collect in Chatswood, after 1 hour received email stating items couldn't be found and out of stock - refund is the only option. What a waste of time EB

  • I am suspecting these cheeky bastards keep some of the stock for themselves.

    • They seem to be pretty open about the stock.

When you order online, it shows stock at beggining of day / last update - you order a product and someone walks in - if person gets to counter and buys, they can't pick your item.

Once they pick your item, should get an email to confirm etc.

If they can't, they will check their floating stock and warehouse stock and give you the option of delivery instead, but only if stock is there and typically only if in the warehouse.

  • Got some cheap amiibo. As expected, the Animal Crossing ones are still there collecting dust.

    • Better for me because that's the only series I'm interested in completing

  • +1

Thanks OP, got 135 steam links for work, happy days.

Edit: Did this on the black friday sale as well. So glad EB Games don't give me too hard a time about my excessive orders.

    • What do they (work) use these for?

      • We give them away as prizes n stuff. $30 is under the FBT limit, so 1 console an employee is not an uncommon occurrence.

Working an angle to keep the $20 cards for myself but I think everyone should share. Dammit I want them!

        https://image.ibb.co/gNG0mm/IMG_1589.jpg

There's just so many of them.

        • +1

Why on a plain black background? Wanted you to hold them over face with an evil laugh!!!! Well played.

  • Steam link is the ultimate machine for emulation. Check it out on youtube. There are nice function.

  • For the three Amiibos I wanted to be picked up. I already got Ryu no need for it. Thanks IP

  • Was pissed off when steam link was on sale in USA autumn sale for US$5 and not available in Australia except via EB games for $90

So getting it for $9 is great value.
Even if it is no use to me the HDMI, ethernet and plug pack alone are worth the $9.

I have plan to use it connected to a MacBook air laptop to stream YouTube for a friend who is disabled via wifi to her TV.

Can it be controlled only by host computer for streaming only, or is controller also needed?

Can it be used with air mouse like used with Android Tv Box?

    • EB had them @ $29 with $20 steam credit for Black Friday, then back to their usual $89.95 through xmas pretty much i think?

  • Burwood NSW was advertising buy 2 Pop Vinyls get 1 Free on Saturday on their exterior TVs and I went in to get it for them to tell me that promo stopped a few days ago -___-

Made them give it to me anyway because it's still publicly advertising at the storefront and I took a photo of it

    • Does the ad say when the offer expires? Saturday was half a week ago.

      • It said one week only in the red banner (valid for $18 and under). No expiry date on it, which is why i pushed for it because it was the only reason we went into the store in the first place. Half the burwood shop at is pop vinyls now that they've partied up with Zing

  • +1

Went and picked up another Steam Link this morning from the Stockland Rockhampton store. It looked like they only had a few left in stock there. I was thinking after the sale it's going to go to $89.95 just for the Steam Link itself so with a $20 Steam gift card with it for $29 it's a bargain.

  • This works amazingly well. I am extremely happy with the performance and brilliant price. Thanks OP.

    • Mine keeps stuttering bad in games. I can't work it out.

      • Weird. Mine is on wifi and it's fine. Only connect at 140 Mb/s. I do have a slow PC though so only getting 30 - 40 FPS. There's a guy elsewhere saying he gets 500 Mb/s and still bad performance.

I grabbed a controller as well. I'm not sold on it but I'll keep it. I haven't really played with a controller in years and I've never been much of a console fan. I've seen YT videos of people playing COD/BF1 and CSGO with it though. There's a guy trying to get Global rank on CSGO.

Anyway I'm keen to get my gaming off the actual computer, out of a chair and on to the couch at least. I've got PS3/Xbox controllers as well but haven't tried those with Link.

(yeah my PC sucks. I have pretty much given up on games til I get a new one)

  • Got my steam link today. Great little device. Also realised that a lot of games on my steam account need updates too.

  • Walked into the eb store and the guy at the counter said "Here to pick up a steam link?" yessir! He said everyone's been grabbing them.

Valve have the best new electronics smell

    • +1

Now I will have to go smell it.

Ended up buying two steam links and one steam controller.

EB games staff did really good job in convincing me to get controller, very friendly and no pressure.

Had 20+ in stock today at castle town ebgames Townsville.

  • I think there might be some thing wrong with the latest beta operating system build for the Steam Link. As all i'm getting after logging into my Steam host is a blank screen but with sound. I'm reverting back to the public build.

    • Edit: never mind. It turns out some how i had video streaming disabled on the Steam Link.

  • My experience with the Steam Link has been mixed. In some games it continually stutters and then soon after the computer reboots itself. And in other games it's fine. I suspect that there's a bug.

  • Didn't they have a free game if you spend over $50 on PC accessories?

    • It was $47 and only valid on a single product, meaning the Steam Link won't qualify.

  • The deal for the Steam Link + $20 Steam card for $29 and Steam Controller for $60 hasn't expired at all. It's still listed at those prices. Although for the Steam Link it's in store only or click and collect.
