Xiaomi Aqara Smart Door Lock (Zigbee) AU$155.70 (USD $119.99) from HK / CN Gearbest

661

Hi Guys,

Just stumbled upon this on Gearbest thanks to store rep Sunny she said it's a flash sale.

Looks pretty good deal for money to get a smart lock which has gor finger print, Code, Key and zigbee integration.

Have seen quite a few locks of Samsung this comes in at fraction of cost as the cheapest one for Samsung starts from $299 at Bunnings

        • @Curiouscat:

Well, your video says different :)
          Its a left opening door!!!!

His video is looking at the door from the inside - its going to swing towards you. My door has hinge on right and door handle on left. So according to your video, its 'Open on the left"!

        • @check: Left/Right open lock shows different pictures. I ordered based on the pictures.

    • +3

      @ check,

      Mate, you're overthinking it.
Look at the handle in the pictures. The handle can only go one way, facing towards the hinges.
The keypad picture is obviously the outside handle of the door.

So you just pick the picture that suits which way your hinges are from the outside.

Gearbest's description is confusing you. They are saying "open on the left" when it should read "open TO the left" (from the outside).
When building a house (at least here in Australia), it's 150% described as from the outside. ie "Front door opens to the right" = looking at front door from the street, the hinges are on right side, the handle is on the left, and the door swings inwards towards the right.

Look at all the different door handles they have for sale. Look at the pictures and its obvious which door handle is for which opening. Their descriptions could be better, but the pictures let you know everything anyway.

  • Expired now I think, price is back to AU$294.55

    • Only open on the right black/gold is still available

  • +1

    A: Hello 0000,

    Thanks for your inquiry.

    Sorry, it is not waterproof.

  • Damn, missed this…

  • Still right. No left. Be good if the rep can provide more

  • i want this.. pls provide more, rep!

  • Open on right/black-gold still available at AU$155.70.
Not much good for me - front door has large glass panels. I lock the security screen…

  • Will insurance cover your house and content if you have this installed? Does it require an Australia Certification?

  • +1

ordered Right side/ Black and Gold for $155. 4 more left.
    But the million dollar questions
    1) do i need the Xiaomi gate way to set this up?
    2) Can i unlock this using Mi home app which are connected to same wifi, without Xiaomi gateway?
    3) how thick does my door need to be to install this?

    • I just did the same and also wonder:

      4) Will it fit behind the screen door?

      5) Am I really capable of installing it?

      • +1

        5) lol…. Me thinking of finding someone to install this who knows and reads Chinese manual.

        • Have posted on Airtasker.com and there are 2 locksmiths who are keen to help.

          Let's see how this goes

        • @Curiouscat: how much will they charge 🤔. Hope less than lock price

        • +1

          @hopper:

Have got someone who has offered $150 to install 2 deadlocks and this lock.

Being a ozbargainer I think all of us can benefit of getting $25 off more by creating a new ID.

So it comes to $125 which is not too bad for profesional installation by a licensed locksmiy

        • @Curiouscat: cool, thx for the $25 tip :)

    • +1

      1) Yes
      2) No
      3) Not sure about this question.

      • So i need gateway even for the setup? I'm not planning to use wifi. Mostly finger print and passcode 😔

        • +2

Sorry my bad, by the looks of it you can set up as stand alone.. i.e access cards, fingerprint key and password.

I am sure all of us will get more answers and will be able to answer more questions about it, when the locks get installed on our doors..

        • You dont need the gateway to set it up, you can add users fingerprints, passwords and cards, delete users, etc with the included control. I have it already, I dont have the gateway yet, seems that the use of the gateway its for the record of access and any automated function, like send a message to cellphone, turn on a light, etc.

        • @hact: Was it easy in install? Not sure if i will get the remote with this order as i don't see this in the description.

        • @hopper: yes, its easy to install, just need to make few holes on the door, if you have the tools it can be done by you or any carpenter (if your door its made of wood). The remote its not included the price its around 25-30 usd, but with the gateway you could add more sensors and things to control your house.

        • @hact: the for the reply, so i just purchased the lock, does this mean i cannot add my finger prints? should i then buy the remote to do this ?

        • @hopper: you dont need to purchase any additional device to add your finger print, that feature its already included in the lock, you can add users, passwords, cards and finger prints.

        • @hact: How thick was your door? My door’s around 40mm thick and I’m finding that I can’t get the front or back panel to fully adhere to the door due to the internal lock spindle and 2 rod on the front panel pushing them out. Did you have to cut them to size?

        • @nix1016: my door its also 40mm thick, I had to cut the two long screws and the main splindle to fix it.

        • @hact: where did u cut them? Bunnings? And was the lock easy to install? Looking for professional from Melbourne 🤔

        • @hact: Yeah, that's what I did as well. The only thing I'm finding is that I can only open the lock from the inside if I turn the handle whilst pressing down on the button on the handle. I'm not sure if that's by design or if I've cut the spindle too short from the inside.

        • +1

@hopper: Here's a video showing how to assemble the lock unit (it's in russian but you can sort of see what to do). Here's another video (in chinese) on how to install it on the door, it doesn't show the part about cutting the spindle and the rods that Hact was talking about but that should depend on the thickness of your door whether you need to cut it or not. Hope this helps!

        • @nix1016: mine works the same, I need to press the button to unlock and open from inside, at first I thought also that I cut more than I should, but that seems to be the working way, otherwise the button will not have any function.

        • @hopper: the carpenter cut it using a simple hacksaw, we cut the inner part of the spindle, yes its easy to install, actually I followed the video on Chinese that Nix recommends you on the next comment.

  • +3

Yeah - i think we all need to ask for this deal to go on again!

    • so - how do you actually ask for a discount?

      • Live chat?

  • +2

Left open, silver is still available!

  • It will only take a week or two for orders to be processed and shipped out.
Then another 2 weeks till it gets delivered :) lol

    • As per their website expected shipping date is between 17-18 January.. Hope they don't take a week to process the order.

  • 11 pieces left, apparently

  • runs on batteries apparently.
Would be good to have a battery power indicator to watch before it runs out while you are on the wrong side of the door without a key

  • +1

    Left opening available again.
    BLACK + GOLDEN
    SILVER AND BLACK

    Don't forget cashback.

  • looks like i got tempted as its cheaper if u pre order from Banggood

    • It's been on pre order since past 2 months. Banggood never had any inventory for the Aqara lock in past and on the website and they don't have any estimated time of arrival / stocking for the product

So if you don't mind waiting till…. We don't know when yes looks like a great deal. :)

      • Can you please update this post once you get the lock installed?

        • Positive, will keenly look forward to do that.

Got the dispacthed notification from Gearbest just now :)

        • @Curiouscat: received it this afternoon.

I received this lock yesterday and spent the night trying to operate it. I think mine is faulty because I can't open it when using the outside handle. It seems like it is always locked. When I unlock it using the fingerprint, code or card I can hear a motor working but when I pull down the door lever nothing is moving. I opened a ticket and sent a video to gearbest with the issue. Here's a video of what is happening.

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FNbZQyXLaqBb8ylRLucmNqAbyv5…

I believe I put it together correctly, but I will give it another try tonight in case I did something wrong. I think the way it should operate is that when it is locked and you pull down the door lever from the outside then nothing should happen. When you enter fingerprint, code or card, the motor works (I can hear it) and immediately after you pull down the outside door lever the lock should be unlocked. The latter is not happening at the moment.

Here are some tips from my experience setting it up.

    1. The default voice is in Chinese. I tried using google translator app, which does the job but it takes time. After I connected the lock with the Mi Home App I managed to change the voice to English (by accident). So I suggest you connect the Lock to the Mi Home App first and change the voice to English, unless you speak Chinese.

    2. Connecting the lock with the Mi Home app was a bit tricky because the lock didn't appear to the available devices. I instead used the Curtain Motor device (any other non Bluetooth device might work as well) and then pressed the lock reset pin for 5 seconds (some error messages appeared but I just ignored them and proceeded). Then you can change the lock's settings from the Mi Home App.

    3. I think at first you need to setup the administrator user, so when you first put the batteries in just press #, 1 and then scan your fingerprint 3-4 times (listen to the voice prompts, it will be the same and when the scan is successful the voice will say something else like "succeeded" in Chinese, use a translator app it helps). I am not sure if you can connect to the MI Home app if you don't first setup the admin user (but you may try it).

    4. You can turn/change the door latch if your door opens to the inside or to the outside (I was a bit worried about that before I realised that I can change it).

    I hope this helps.

    • Thanks mate, by the looks of it I think reassembling of the lock might solve the problem as the latch is moving but the internal mechanism doesn't seem to be correctly aligned.

If I may ask you, when did you order the lock?!

      • +3

Yes reassembly solved the issue. I had the spindle installed incorrectly. I removed it and inserted it the other way and it works.

I placed the order on 8th Jan and received it yesterday.

        Thanks

        • Hi, I have the same problem as you currently, it seems that I have installed the spindle on the wrong way and now Im not able to remove it, how did you take it out to reinstall it?
          Thank you

        • +1

@hact: Yes it might be a bit difficult to remove it because it has that piece of black metal spring to hold it in place. I just hold it down and pushed it through the hole. I thought that it would be difficult but managed to do it without any tools. Maybe you can use a flat screwdriver to hold it down and push.

        • @dkatri: thank you Dkatri, I was able to remove it without tools (used a simple coin to push the metal spring) and reinstall back, were you able to connect the lock directly to MI home app or you made it using the xiaomi/aqara gateway?
I have tried directly by adding another device (like the curtain motor) as you explained but it just not recognize it, so I guess I need to gateway.

        • +1

@hact: Yes you certainly need the gateway. I yesterday found out that the lock is available as a device if you click on the gateway and then click add device. I was doing it wrong trying to find it as a standalone device.

        • @dkatri: thank you

        • @hact: Hi dkatri/hact, I think I am having the same spindle issue described by dkatri. I can't open the door from outside. When I use the swiper, it says "authorised", and I hear some mechanical thing move, but the door doesn't unlock.

I've tried putting the spindle in towards to the back first, and towards the front but doesn't seem to make a difference. Any tips on which way it needs to go?

Also, the finger print reader doesn't work at all for me. I think mine is broken :(

        • @DevilsPredicate: I figured it out. On the front door side of the lock, you have to ensure that the "plus" shaped bit is wound back as much as possible before attaching the front door face.

        • @DevilsPredicate: here is a video to follow the installation in case you still need it (or anyone) the spindle has an specific position and its displayed on the video how to install it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xzZ7pQKJEpX8JEBM3Q42qSpIzlu…

    • You received it in just a few days? mine still has not been shipped and gearbest are saying they cannot ship it to me at the price paid. A huge pain dealing with their very poor customer service.

      • When I order it I paid $119.99 + Delivery costs: $5.91 (USD). It comes in a large box and it weights 6+ kilos. Maybe you can get them to bring it down to that by telling them that others have paid less.

        • I live in Melbourne. Not sure why it has become a problem.

      • I've order it on Jan 13 and receive on 17

    • You can add an additional screw to one of the sides of the middle locking mechanism. Out of the box, the lock bit has 1 screw on one side, but the other side doesn't have one. If you also screw that side in, you can unlock it from the front door side.

Did you end up installing it? Any issues with the door width?

      • Yes I installed it a couple of weeks ago. It works fine for now.

I had to cut the tips of the rectangle spindle to fit the lock on my door (38 mm door).

    • I installed the lock completely and realised the latch is in the wrong direction now. Can i just remove the middle part with and change the latch direction? as the lock ic installed to the door completely now :(
I can lock the look but it takes me the press the handle every time i do it

  • Anyone else having an issue with this? Gearbest are trying to get me to pay another US$9.90

    • Have you sent message to store rep here on ozbargain, she is pretty good at getting the issues resolved.

      • I did, didn't help at all. I'm just going in circles here. Very frustrating.

    • I got my item today without being asked anything.

      • Thanks for updating me. My item was shipped on Friday and to the wrong address. Guess it's a refund for me.

  • +1

received my today, heavy package. opened it and seeing the documentation i lost my mind already. have to use google translate. any video on how to install this? Also did anyone actually fit this in the door?

    • Got mine yesterday too. Unboxed it today and then re-boxed it.
Heaven knows what I'll do with it.

      • Sell it to me. i really want one. …

  • anyone can recommend installer in brisbane?

    • Also need one for Melbourne plz

      • my doors its made of wood, so I used a carpenter to do the work, for the setup of the lock you can do it.

        • How much did it cost you for getting the carpenter to remove old lock and install new one!?

        • @Curiouscat: I've paid around 22 USD, its hard to compare I guess since I live in Mexico.

        • @hact:
Yeah I agree, here in Melbourne, the minimum quote which I've got is $275 AUD

  • SO did any one install the Lock in Melbourne? PLz share the details, would really be helpful :)

    • I am getting it done this Thursday, we live around Cranbourne east / Clyde North.

Are you looking for a reliable locksmith, I have got contact details of locksmith. He is charging for $250 for smart lock and a deadlock installation.

      • So 250 for 2 locks? Can you plz share the details, thx

        • Got the locksmith to install 2 new deadlocks and xiaomi lock for $300 all up, think it was reasonable as he had to spend more than 3.5 hours to fix everything.

Which suburb are you in, happy to pass on the details of the locksmith.
