iPhone X 64GB $1263.20, 256GB $1463.20 (Grey Import, Both Colours Available) @ Vaya eBay Store

910
PCTECH

I'm relatively new to posting deals so please don't hate me if I've posted this incorrectly.
For the record I think this is a ridiculous price for any phone. But I digress…

Was trawling through a few of the sellers in the upcoming 20% off sale and noticed the iPhone X in the Vaya eBay Store. I think this might be the cheapest ever posted. Both capacities and colours are available.

Have a good day! :)

Liable to add 10% duty (over $1000) so it’s really $1389. I guess it’s still cheaper than RRP but half the warranty than local stock.

    • +4

I've bought MacBook Pro from these guys and wasn't charged GST on import. Message the seller prior to buying to check if they are still taking care of the import duty.

      • +2

Pretty sure it’s buyers responsibility. Not sure why the seller would want to coff up the duty. Perhaps there’s a delay with customs sending out an invoice

        • +6

Creative form-filling gets it under the $900 radar (or whatever customs limits are these days)

        • I bought a MBP 15.4 inch (retail price $3500) from vaya ebay and did not get charge any tax. What you pay to ebay is all you need yo pay i think.

      • But what did they write on the import document? Did they decrease the value to below $1000?

Need to know as this adds another $180 if it is taxed on the way in.

        • +1

From memory they had put "sender" responsible for taxes and duties. Best to send them a message to confirm whether they still do the same.

      • +1

Location says HK, but they say they have warehouses in Sydney… I guess it depends if it’s already here or not?

    • For under $1000: iPhone 8 64GB $863.20 (HK, All Colours) @ Vaya eBay Store: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/iPhone-8-64GB-in-Gold-Silver-Spa…

    • hi Gavman,
Are you referring to the gst? https://www.ato.gov.au/General/New-legislation/In-detail/Ind… ATO website states 1st July 2018.

  • +1

That’s a great saving even for an import.

    Edit: import tax kills it.

    • How do you calculate the import tax? thanks

  • brngs down to similar price as 8 Plus in Apple store

  • What a flop.

  • +31

Thank you. I just saved $1463.20 by choosing not to buy it.

    • +5

Isn’t that a 100% discount? Best bargain ever.

    • +3

Thanks for the bargain, I saved $1463.20 too!

    • -1

Smart move. No iPhone is worth anywhere near that amount anyway.

  • -6

It's the OzBargain contradiction. It's a good saving but Apple (esp iPhone X) is the embodiment of everything anti-bargain.

    • +12

so is a merc or bmw when people could just buy corollas.

the trick is getting things at the best price . … for some people a phone is a social tool, for others it’s a tool they use to earn a living.

to be able to carry and umbrella in one hand, and have facial recognition unlock my phone which is in the other hand means i might be able to answer a sales call ….. my current phone has finger print reader on the back so i need to hold the phone with one hand while i unlock with the other ……

some of these devices have features of varying importance based on your life style ….. i never take selfies so front camera to me isn’t a big deal, to someone who does a lot of selfies it is.

i like large screen phablets, some people like smaller phones.

      • +8

my current phone has finger print reader on the back so i need to hold the phone with one hand while i unlock with the other ……

        Why?

      • -8

Galaxy Note8 is Merc. This is Morris Mini with BMW price.

      • +7

You need a xiaomi automatic umbrella to solve your woes

      • +3

Sounds like your phones fingerprint scanner is in the wrong position ;)

I know I can hold an umbrella, whilst crossing the road, pull the phone out of my pocket with my free hand, and as the fingerprint scanner is exactly where my finger rests, it is unlocked before I raise it above my waist. All without taking my eyes off the road, You need to look at the iPhone X in this situation.

Also, when I owned an iPhone 6 plus, I had no issues making sure my hand grabbed in order to unlock straight from my pocket. It's not the ideal position, but I worked with it.

Not saying FaceID is completely meritless, but trying to justify a $1000+ purchase based on a productivity gain from FaceID alone is a serious reach.

    • +16

I thought it was OzBargain, so a discount on RRP the more the better on any item.

Last time I looked the site wasn’t called OzValue.

If by your statement we wouldn’t post Bose deals cause cheap NC from Gearbest or Aldi will do, no posts about full service airlines cause Jetstar and AirAsia will do.

If people like the phone they will buy it. I got it cause my ecosystem is mainly Apple, and finally an OLED screen.

      • -1

And yet everyone knows an $80,000 car makes little difference to your career.
It's not OzValue … doesn't mean people can't call out products of poor value, or perhaps more specifically people's justifications. Needing an iPhone X cos you want a fancy social status phone is one thing, thinking you need an iPhone X cos you think that is the only way to easily unlock your phone is on a completely different level.

        • +3

Yes your career isn’t dictated by your car. Unless it’s a sales rep type of job, where perception plays a part in the decision. i.e. real estate agents. Some folk will see a nice car meaning that the agent is a seller and will sell their house.

Agree on those points. However value is always in the eye of the beholder.

The dilemma I have now is whether I upgrade LR5 to LR6 Classic for $70 cause High Sierra works wonky with LR5. But looking at the alternative means $400 spend on Capture One, to eck every last drop of quality. Or do I look at the Macphun software for slightly more than the LR5 upgrade. The bargain decision is to stick with the LR upgrade but the value decision is a lot harder.

  • import tax folks

  • I have tried the iPhone X and returned it. I prefer the iPhone 8 Plus. I found the iPhone X usable screen area too small.

    • Bu that you mean the physical screen area?

    • -2

      I prefer a Xiaomi.

    • But the usable screen area is 100%?

    • I’ve compared the screen sizes, the iPhone X is a few mms longer around 7mm by my eye, and the plus is about 5mm wider.
      That’s ignoring the notch.

I’ve got an x and while I would’ve preferred a larger phone the screen size is the same as my old one just a slightly different aspect ratio.

    • The iPhone X screen size issue has not been explained very well. Here are the facts. I have an iPhone X.

The phone's specs indicate that the iPhone X has a BIGGER screen than the iPhone 8PLUS. This is technically true because those are measurements are taken diagonally from corner to corner. The 'problem' is that the aspect ratio of the iPhone 8Plus and iPhone X are different. What this means is that if you are watching a video (Youtube for example), then to see the entire original image area you will get black vertical bars on the iPhone X (but not on iPhone 8PLUS). If you display the video to fill the entire physical screen area on the iPhone X (around the notch etc), then the price you 'pay' is that the video is cropped at the top and bottom.

This has to be so because the aspect ratios of videos (typically 16:9) is different to the aspect ratio of the 'full screen' mode of the iPhone X.

      Hope this makes sense.

How does the import tax get charged? Who will we be invoiced by?

    • Customs can hold packages.

  • can you claim TRS on this?

    • No grey import, 1yr Apple warranty

      • even if u have to pay import tax?

        • No

    • Is that a trick question lol

You gotta pay tax to claim tax…
      Duh

  • Good discount but still too expensive

  • +5

I actually think the iPhone x is the best phone on the market and I've got a mate 10 pro.
May not be best value for money but the product is the best money can buy right now. A lot of haters here. If it is hate purely on price fair enough but the device doesn't warrant the hate

    • +2

MATE 10 PRO is a great phone tbh, and its also 20% off in amaysim ebay

      • +1

No doubt, I love my phone and don't regret it the slightest.

        • I heart people said, when you use it for a year, check the speed & backup.

    • I considered the Iphone X but for that price it would absolutely have to blow away the competition.

I just Dont feel the phone justifies the price.

But obviously how well its selling, other people do.

    • For $1829 it better bloody be the best :)

I decided to skip it this year as I want a larger screen and to my dismay the screen is smaller then the plus versions of iPhones. Hoping they release a plus version in 2018.

      • What do you mean?
iPhone X is 5.8 inches vs iPhone (plus variant) is 5.5 inches
Form factor is smaller because there’s less bezels

        • But I think the aspect ratio is different on the X (longer but narrower) and the screen area is less that previous plus.

        • +1

          @mrhatken:

Fair enough that sounds possible. I haven’t actually compared the phones irl myself and was basing it off the reported screen size

  • Can someone confirm that there will be import tax charged to this? Coz if so that pushes it out of the 'decent deal' range for me, coz it adds on another $180.

  • +5

I bought an Iphone 7 from vaya last year and they sent me a Jap version. I can't mute the camera shutter sound at all. So be aware that it's not working as you expected from an Aussie version.

    • Even if you put it on silent mode?

  • I think they've removed this item from their store since it was in my cart and now it's listed as unavailable.

  • +3

I'm glad its out of stock, didn't like being tempted by a 1 year warranty + grey stock + possible import tax

  • +1

There is no import tax, confirmed by messaging the store.

    • Thanks but how can they speak for Australian customs? Unless they know the units are already in Aus?

      • +1

According to the reply, they said they will be “shouldering” it, guessing they will be paying, but more likely just declare a different amount.

        • +1

Yeah most grey importers just go evayading the limit by under declaring. As long as stuff gets to me lol

  • +4

Aus Stock 256gb for $1,535 Delivered for anyone who wants it. They were available for $1,455 a couple of hours ago lol, cheaper than this deal.

    • +1

Where does it say it's Australian stock? The seller is located in United States…

      • +2

        ??

Based in Australia, thinkofus.store has been an eBay member since 29 May, 2005

I can assure you, it’s aus stock, it’s posted from NSW.

        Here’s it on their site.

Disappointing sales of iPhone X could lead Apple to end production of its flagship handset this summer as it prepares to replace it with trio of new smartphones in the fall, Wall Street analysts said Friday.
    https://www.investors.com/news/technology/click/apple-iphone…

    • What the heck did they think? People were going to fork out laptop (expensive one at that) or even big screen TV money for it without hesitation? We got a couple of them at work and to say it's unremarkable would be an understatement. Its not worth anything more than the previous models at best and they were already somewhat overpriced.

  • Received today, took a week from order to arrival. Pretty quick for shipping from HK.
Stock seems to be from Japan.
