  • When is the 10% off gift cards promotion on?

  • What 2 days, dates please.

    • 4th and 5th probably looking at bargain expiry.

    • thanks venu, yes 4th and 5th!

      • What catalogue is that in? I don't see it on their site? I'm wondering if it's Australia wide?

  • Too bad on their current catalogue
This model was already discounted at @1349

    so another 45 off then.

  • +1

As stated in the other thread, gift card comes to 9.09%, not 10% because you pay for $100 for $110 value etc.

  • wow, sweet price if you manage to get staff discount as well

    • how much is the staff discount?

  • Wow, this is EXCELLENT if I'm understanding right. So you can get $1320 in gift card credit for $1200, then spend that to buy the base model MBP for $1305.99? If so, that is a wicked deal in my eyes, RRP is $1449.99, biggest saving I've seen for a while for an Apple product :)

EDIT: Ah, found out it's $550 gift card for $500, so $1100 for $1000, still not bad :)

I don't really get your calculations.. Here are mine:

      Base model MBP is $1449. After 10% it's $1304.10.

What you then need to do is puchase 2x$500 gift cards + 1x$200 gift card giving you a total of $1320 which you then use to pay for you're MBP giving you $15.90 in gift card change afterwards. This means you effectively paid $1200 for the MBP (assuming the change is worth nothing to you since all you want is the MBP)

The alternative for those with true ozbargain spirit is to purchase 2x$500 gift card + 1x$100 gift card. This will give you a total of $1210. Since that isn't enough to purchase the MBP you need to fill in the $94.10 meaning you effectively paid $500+$500+$100+$94.10=$1194.10 for the MBP.

The first option presents more value but the second is available for those who want to get it as cheap as possible

      • Isn't that what I said? Only thing I don't get is whether you can get the gift cards in $100 increments or if it's only for $500 ones, I read both… But yea, buy gift cards to get an extra $100+, then buy it at the $1304.99 price to get it for roughly $1200 right?

        • Yep sorry. I didn't get your reply when i first read it (I was at maccas so wasn't exactly concentrating)

      • bargain88

this is amazing maths. my maths is going nowhere.
Can you pls do this for me cos i want to buy 3 64 gig ipod touch for Xmas

  • +5

yes gift cards are in $100 increments

why bother with a core 2 duo that is so 2008
    where are the core i7

    • +1

Yea C2D is really old, tempted to get a new MBP with this but I think I'll wait for Sandy Bridge next year :)

    • agree with c2d comment that it's dated, but in the mbp lineup only the 13" has those. all other macbook pros are core i[3/5/7]

  • damn it would have been nice if ipads were included.

    • You can still use the gift voucher trick to reduce the cost of your IPAD

      • yes i kno. but i was looking for an even bigger bargain. ;) im an oz bargainer. :D

    • Oh FYI, the 10% off sale isnt that big of a deal, because you can usually haggle 10% off appl products easily in the first place. This includes ipads

This sale is only good for staff members, because we are not allowed to haggle price, then use staff discount. This sale allows us to have the 10% off sale price, staff discount, then 9% voucher deal

For non staff, you can haggle down an ipad and still use the gift cards.

also macbook pro 15" models have a 12% markup, just so you all know :P. You can get even cheaper so dotn let sales guys tell u otherwise

      • what do you think is the best price for a 16gb non 3g ipad that i could get? or shouls i ask the same question in % terms?

        • Dunno about that model but just heard on radio dse has 64gb 3g ipad for $998. Get myer to price match and then do the gift card trick. Works out to $909.

  • Get to know a Woolworths employee and that base model MacBook Pro is $1173 next week, but of coarse the 13 inch is old tech, new models early next year I hope, same with iPads.

  • macbook air on sale too?

    • yes all apple desktops and laptops

  • +2

Went there & saw the new 11" MacBook Air today. $1199 + 10% off. Mighty tempted (and I don't even like Macs).

    • The 11" MBA is a spectacular little computer. I just replaced my $350 10" EeePC with the base model 11" MBA, and even at 3x the price, it's totally worth the upgrade as a travel computer. The EeePC is the computer you use because you HAVE to use a computer to get something done (book a flight, hotel, trip, send important email) but the MBA is the computer you LOVE to sit down and use because it's FAST, light, snappy to use, full size keyboard, amazing screen, amazing trackpad.

Pity they don't seem to be in this deal. But even at $1K (with the GiftCard trick) it's completely worth it for a travel computer, esp if you are suffering with something else now.

      • Pity? who said 11" MBA is not part of this deal? It very much IS! All apple laptops and desktops are part of the promo - see the photo of the promo I took. $990 using gift card trick or even cheaper if you're going overseas :)

  • Is there any discount for myer staff with staff discount card?

this absolute bargain, 10% + myer staff discount + gift card benefit + travel in 2weeks for the GST 10%

    WOW

    • -1

yes but from what I remember myer only gives a small staff discount for AV/Computers not sure exactly how much.

but I like you style, that is exactly what I am doing 10% off promo + gift card bonus + GST refund, which makes me a happy little vegemite :)

      • My sister just called me , and said: staff discount card have 15% discount

        correct me if im wrong

        • no way! WOW! If that is true that's insane. I recall it being around 5% for computers and electrical - I know it changed a few times. Any myer staff that can verify? only 15 mins left tho lol (as per AEDST)

  • How would the GST refund work if you used the gift cards?
Depends how it shows up on the receipt I guess…
    Has anyone tried this before?

    • +2

Im reading your question two ways, so I'll answer both:

      1. Do you get the GST refund if you pay for goods using gift cards?
The answer is yes you can - you are still purchasing goods. However you cannot claim a GST refund on unused gift cards themselves as that is considered to be just like taking cash with you. Otherwise I would simply buy up $4k of gift cards, claim GST on them on the way out, and come back and buy a 3D plasma when the next myer 10% off TV sale was on :)
Source: (i) Me, I have claimed GST before many times on goods bought with gift cards and (ii) Customs Australia - http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4366.asp#e1162

      2. What amount would we get the GST refund on?
Well lets take the example of the macbook pro in the photo I took of the promo. Retail is $1449. After 10% off Apple promo it's $1304.10 -> this is the amount that will show on your receipt as payment for the MBP. The fact that you then use a combination of cash, gift cards and bonus gift cards to pay for them is irrelevant for GST claiming purposes. This means you can claim GST of $118.55 (1304.10 divided by 11). If you use bargain88's second method of gift card usage from above, then the laptop will only end up costing you: $1194.10-$118.95 = $1,075.15 - saving of 25.8% off RRP!

  • Worth noting Ipads are only sold at a handful of Myer stores.

  • Do you think I can get David Jones to match this?

    • If you mean 10% off apple, then yes - DJs are good at price matching. Just remember that the number of shops carrying apple products has reduced so phone before heading in. But I'm not sure if they'll match myer's gift card bonus for the extra 9.09% off.

  • Got a Mac Mini for $730 instead of $899.

  • Picked up a 15" MacBook Pro from Myer for $1700, saved around $400…I'm happy..great deal and great post…thanks

    • +1

Enjoy buddy! Im glad I took the effort to post this as quite a few folks here did alright. My mate picked up the same MBP as you and his sis grabbed the mac mini. We were playing around with some HD footage and wow editing is so much faster compared to my C2D MBP! damn

  • I'm interested in looking to do this for a 15" 2.4ghz Macbook Pro - however I want to get a model with the upgraded resolution screen, which you have to specify when ordering a a custom order. Do any Myer's actually stock the model with the upgraded screen in Adelaide? I understand that if you make a custom order at this point you probably won't get it till after xmas.

  • anyone know when's the next Apple Sale would be at Myer? Does Myer have 10% off on Boxing Day?
