  • Are there compatibility guides for these things? Always wondered how you can tell exactly what sort of unit can replace the factory fitted ones.

    • +1

does it look like you can pull out the old stereo and leave a big rectangular hole, then yes it'll fit

      • That sounds a bit too simplistic - I'm sure most factory installed units can be pulled out in some way, whether you can see how that happens or not is another thing.

Are you claiming if I'm left with big rectangular 6" hole that an 8" inch unit will fit?! Obviously not, so do these and the factory fitted ones come in any sort of standard size? Are modifications possible if the sizing is slightly off etc?

        • -1

Yes you are correct to say all stereos can be removed. But if you dont have a massive rectangular hole you'll need to replace the whole entire facia and that will cost around $1k depending on the car.

Car stereos come in 2 sizes. Single din or double din. All are approx the same size which is why some stereos come with a plastic trim to cover the gap if any.

If you dont know what youre doing then youll also need to consider brackets and iso harnesses otherwise you can use your soldering skills with the help of a wiring diagram.

          @bbyboy:

$1k? What are you smoking? A dash kit/ fascia kit should come in well under $100 and helps make these head units compatible with 99% of cars Tex. I’m sure there are only a couple of strange males that have a different wiring setup but I’d bet that it can be done in whatever car you have.

        • @WillisAU: some cars have massive dash the wraps the whole front of the car with circuit boards for climate control etc. I had to import mine from japan and its cost $500 second hand

        • @bbyboy:

Here’s a totally random one I found online as an example

          https://www.carid.com/metra/single-double-din-high-gloss-bla…

          What car do you have?

(And I can’t edit my post above but it should say strange makes not strange males LOL)

        • @WillisAU:
04 v35 skyline. please find me one for less than 100 with a compartment lid
heres mine but no compartment lid which you can see through to the firewall https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1…
its the last time im giving my advice. ive been installing car stereos for 15 years and i get negged and insulted

        • @bbyboy:

Wow unfortunate for owners of that particular import :/ sorry for the neg bit advice saying “if it doesn’t fit a rectangle it will cost $1k” isn’t really accurate.

  • price without the $149 reverse camera??

    for this too - https://frankiesautoelectrics.com.au/pioneer-mvh-z5050bt-7-m…

    • Hi WillisAU,

As you can see, it's already a package but you may want to try to send a message here ([email protected]) for this enquiry.

  • Keen to get Apple Car Play, can you give a cost estimate on installation? Have a 2012 Mazda 6 GH, understand you need the fascia kit and wiring for steering wheel controls as well?

      Hi iMacca,

You can send a message to [email protected] for the installation cost and other enquiries.
