Is this board any better than the ones you get from Woolies ?

    • +4

For what people use these for, yes. It'll take CN, US and EU plugs. Perfect for those of us loaded up with China tech.

      • Thanks @Clear, I didn't realize that. A good plus.

        • Hijacking to say back in stock 73 / 66 in Black / White.

      • I didn't realize it had international outlets. Now if it had sure protection then I would be sold.

        • +3

It's not something I keep plugged in or turned on 24/7. Only when I need to.

These are surprisingly well built internally though. I'd put more trust in them than a cheapo from Kmart.

      • +1

It'll also take AU plugs too ;)

    • +2

Very similar except it has the USB connections and it takes most international plugs.

It's a good option if you have overseas plugs and want USB convenience, otherwise the Woolies option is fine.

    • They are compact (both plug and board itself) and look quite slick, but that's about it in my opinion.

    • General power boards output 5V 1A per port only. Rarely do they output higher, but this board outputs 2A.

    • Black one is showing zero stock.

  • Don't get me wrong, i love Xiaomi products but if this thing caught in fire, are we covered by insurance?

    • +6

People have been saying for years on OzBargain that it's not covered, but they've never produced any evidence when asked from what I've seen.

      • Has OzBargainers' house burnt down and this theory tested? Given the poor reputation of insurers I'd say it's 50/50 until I see evidence it hasn't mattered either.

I have a few of these boards myself for anyone wondering.

        • How about checking their policy. Seems like a smart way of finding out.

    • I have also wondered that myself.

    • +2

Insurance is a just a scam but we seem to accept it and now it's part of our lives. Everything needs insurance now.

      • It’s a scam until you need it

        • When do you need it? I've been driving for more than 20 years now and never claimed insurance before. I don't really want to get insurance but the missus keeps forcing me to get it. She said just in case. I didn't want to fight over shit like that. To me it's a waste of money really.

        • @HandsomeMonkey:
That’s fair enough, and I can see where you’re coming from.

A lot of people on ozbargain have started threads where an uninsured driver has hit them. Insurance for both parties would be beneficial in these cases.

My business is in finance broking, and I have heard plenty of stories of people not having personal insurances, and being left with financial burdens for medical costs, legal bills and unpaid debt, due to circumstances they didn’t create.

Of course, there is theft, fire, flood, motor, accidental and other events that insurance covers.

At the end of the day, taking insurance or not taking insurance is a calculated risk. If you’re comfortable with the risk you choose, you should sleep easy at night (metaphorically).

        • @HandsomeMonkey: in that case, you are really paying for 'peace of mind'. $h1t happens.

    • +2

You can say the same things for imported electrical devices. Like phones that grey import

  • Anyone have any experience with this site?

    • +3

Yes bought this item and a few other things with no problem at all

  • Watch out. No band 28 when you charge your phone.

    • Please explain - does it produce interference? Is this relevant for mobiles in the city?

      • +1

        It's a joke

        • +2

Jokes are funny. They take a thing you think and make you think another thing about them.

  • I've got about 4 of these, i take them travelling with me and use them at home.
DO NOTE the usb do get alil warm when you are using all 3.3A. not enough to catch fire, but you can definitely feel it in your hands.

    • Sounds like you need to use a pot stand to insulate the hot powerstrip from burning carpet or laminate

    • Used in the US? I had issues charging in Hawaii on my multi charger, the Korjo adaptors were fine just a nuisance when you have so many devices.

  • Is it just me or so mahy of these chinese stores sort of look the same, similar buttons, similar colours, text position of things etc…

    • +4

SImilar ones are probably using similar software to create their sites, not worth developing from the ground up.

      • IM not denying that, im simply stating they "look" the same. It seems everywhere else products try and look different from their competition, even within the same company the new model always looks different from the old.

    • China doesn't believe in IP rights.

      • Im not discussing IP, im just wondering why they all seem to look the same. Products typically want to look different, thats why fords dont look like toyotas, or why the each generation of iphone has some visual que that is instantly recognisable , so you caneasiy tell if someone has a v5 or v8 or v99.

        • China doesn't agree with you.

Copying others is just generally how it goes. It's such a prevalent problem that many stores will ask you to piss off if you start taking photos around their business.

  • +2

I find these are great for travel. Just the right number of ports for charging my devices, and inbuilt USB for all my phones/tablets. Just one adapter to suit your destination and you are sorted.

    • Did you use it in the US?

      • Not US, but Japan. Similar plug (Japan doesn't have an earthing pin, US does), nothing burnt down or exploded.

  • Sells for 59rmb iirc in Xiaomi in China

    • +11

For $1.34 more than the price in China this is a pretty damn good price.

  • This one from Bunnings for $22.98 is better imo.
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/click-4-outlet-powerboard_p43315…

    • +4

Nice just coz local warranty and individual switches, but it won’t accept the straight legs which everyone has from all the xiaofang cameras and other Chinese tech that we all now have.

    • So how do I plug in EU and US adapters into that? You can't. It's not better.

      • Good point. My bet. Didn't know that people are buying this powerboard for Xiaomi and Chinese devices.

    • You buy the Xiaomi boards for travel and adapter convenience. For switched plugs I'd buy the $10 ones lol

    • Looks reasonable at first but it is a little bulky, no compatibility with US/EU plugs, USB charge ports likely not as good as the Xiaomi (which has 2A quick charge support), it's more expensive and their product history doesn't look stellar given they have sold potentially defective/dangerous batches of products in the past: https://www.bunnings.com.au/returns/recalls (one of which was actually a power board!)

I guess the advantage is one extra socket and one extra USB charge port..

    • For that price I'd expect 8 outlets.

  • +2

I like these powerboards as well, very useful.
Irritating that you can only buy 1 though ( or at least one per order maybe?)

Also found it funny that the shipping is "China Via Air Mail" but it seems that "Air Mail" is the name of she shipping company, as opposed to the method of delivery :) ….so sneaky it's funny.

    • It doesn't pan like "The East is Red Seed Hide and Animal By-products People's Revolutionary Co-operative" that made the sweets I used to like. True poetry is dead…

  • Limit 1 per person? I can't seem to change the quantity
Also said "Failed to generate order"

  • I'm trying to buy a single white one, but the web site is not cooperating. It says Stock 57, yet on the Checkout page when I click on Place Order I get a brief popup that says "Your purchase exceeds quantity limit".

    • Hmm, could it be because I bought one from this store before, several months ago?

Are these even safe or passed quality control? Wouldn’t be nice if the house catches on fire when you could had spent extra few bucks for something in the long run.

    • +3

Yawn…read any other thread for this product, it's been discussed ad nauseam.

    • +2

Passed QC? sure, they seem to be built to a higher standard than your $4 generic at woolworths.

Wouldn’t be nice if the house catches on fire when you could had spent extra few bucks for something in the long run.

You could say the same with any board brought here as well.

  • Thanks rgtanna, have picked up another.

  • used this in europe recently it was great, only thing is if you use all 3 USB ports at the same time it heats up.

    EDIT;
i order 2 items from DD4, and never received them, so be warned you might never get it.

    • +1

I always use Paypal with Chinese sellers and expect it not to turn up, and then a month later I might be surprised and actually receive something.

  • Black sold out. Think I got the last 2.
    White still avail.

  • +1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems it is $0.01 USD cheaper at LITB.

        • +1

          Perish the thought!

We need more people scouring for deals - not less. It was your response which prompted me to check some of the older posts so I can order a couple. Cheers…
