        • Probably only if your tv takes a Sim card too

        • Iff you can tether your TV to your mobile, it should work (I have tethered a Chromecast and it seemed to work) but if your TV connects to different server to deliver the content then you might be up for data charges.

      • Worked fine for me Chromecasting, but that is definitely different to running the app on a TV. They do also make a note about it being SD streaming - not really sure how they control that with the app.

  • Is this the first gen iPad pro ?

    • 2nd gen. confirmed live chat

  • +1

So in effect, could buy this, sell the iPad for approx. $1500 (ie. $62.50/month for 24 months) and this plan would have a net cost of less than $20 for 100GB data? Dayum.

Could I get away with mobile data instead of my cruddy FTTN… hmmmm.

    • +2

This is actually what I've done with the previous deal for the 10.5 inch iPad for $52.50 with 100GB data. The iPad was obviously worth a lot less, but I cancelled my home broadband and now use a 4G modem with the Optus Sim from this plan. I'd recommend testing your speeds at different times in your home off 4G, because I've had times where I've for whatever reason been getting less than 1 megabit and then other times a few hours later, I'm getting 55 megabits.

Just something worth checking out before you go for it as I know I wish I did!

      • Cool, thanks for the advice. Other than those issues, going OK for you or not really worth it?

I am 20/10 on NBN, looks like it'd be about 20/5 on 4G, though more testing required on that.

        • +2

Overall, its going OK and I do like the freedom it gives me to not worry about data usage on my phone & iPad as its all just one big pool of data that I can use at home or anywhere else. Definitely worth it if the speeds you'll get off 4G are decent based on your location :)

      • +1

What modem did you go with and does it affect the unmetered data allowance?

      • Same as what Shanp is saying… what modem are you using? Is it reliable?

    • I don't even have NBN yet - still on ADSL, and it is so slow even the speed test drop out most of the time, but on a really really good day will get 3/0.5GB. Was holding out until NBN, but it has been delayed in my area for another 9 months apparently, so was looking at other options but they were all too expensive. But this deal works out nicely!!!

On my phone 4G internet with Optus is 9/5 GB most of the time.

Any recommendations for good 4G modems?

  • I still use my 4th gen ipad from 5 years ago. This should be a nice upgrade.

  • +1

Just purchased deal through online chat. Customer service guy said order was processed and email sent out for payment details. Haven’t received email yet, anyone else have similar experience? Anyway big thanks to op as this is great deal for me as presently paying 90 bucks a month for unlimited wireless broadband…only have option of useless satellite in my area.
100 go plus free streaming should be enough I hope 😀

    • +1

Same here, but when I log into my account on Optus. It appears under my orders. The sales rep said I would be getting it tomorrow, fingers crossed.

  • +1

Don't forget, you may be able to claim the monthly cost as a tax deduction.

    • +1

Yep! I'm doing exactly that! Works out to be about $52 a month!

  • This will require a credit check is that correct? Also is there any excess usage charge?

    • yep goes through credit check, and it is $10 for every gb you go over.

  • Any Promo code I can apply at the checkout guys?

    • never mind couldn't wait :)

    • What about student discount or cashrewards?

      • +1

no student discount for this plan and no cashrewards.

    • just sign up if you like the deal - although i loathe optus on their customer service which tries to sell something when i ask for help, this i think would be never to be repeated deal.

  • Good price! I'm on the $79p/m 100gb with 512 ipad pro 10.7. 12.9 is just overkill though imo

  • Shopfront said can add the apple keyboard for extra $10 for the 24 months

    • Which one?

    • Eh? You mean total price of $240?? Or total price of $10? I wouldn’t pay 240 for the kB as you can easily get it second hand much cheaper or from eBay 20 off deal?

  • +1

Finally, I ordered through Optus Sales Team. Online Order was very slow and hard but on phone support team was very helpful and order can be placed within 15 mins or so. Thank you very much OP.

  • hi guys. I have a sim-only plan already with Optus, $40 per month for 12gb I think. Should I just go for this deal on top of my existing plan, or is there a more cost-effective way of doing things that I'm missing?!

    cheers

    • +1

I would just downgrade mobile plan to 30 as data pool will give you so much more

    • +1

Hey, I recently re-contacted that $40 12gb plan to $40 15gb, you should do that as well, you get 3 extra gigs for free. Basically.

  • Why does the link only say 2gb data

    • +1

Select 512 Gb and scroll to the very right.

  • Been considering an iPad Pro, and this deal made me jump now… I definitely didn't need 100GB of data, but I guess when my current phone contract runs out I can switch to Optus for it and get the base plan with least amount of data then set up data pooling.

Now to keep my eye out for a deal on the Apple Pencil and Apple 12.9 Smart Keyboard…

  • Can I sign up for this now, then a phone plan at a later date and still data share across the 2 plans? Or would I have to do both at the same time?

    • +1

Yes you can, just add to the same account number other services and they’ll share the data pool

  • Just commenting to say that I have ordered and been approved. Waiting on delivery now.

  • +1

I know the Ts and Cs on the Optus website say if you tether or use chromecast to watch Netflix or Stan the data will not be unmetered but just wondering if anyone has actually tested this? I'm thinking of getting this deal and putting the sim card in a 4G modem and sharing the internet around the house. The main thing I want to know is, if I do this and watch Netflix via the Netflix app on my smart TV (i.e. not through chromecast) or via PS3 will it be unmetered? Also, if I am watching Netflix on more than one device like my TV and an iPad at the same time, will this be unmetered?

    • +1

From what I understand, it's only unmetered if you watch it through the iOS app on your iPad holding the 4G sim. As soon as you put the 4G sim in a modem or connect another device to the iPad (tethering), it becomes a WiFi connection like any other normal WiFi network. Airplaying from your iPad should work (if you have an AppleTV), Chromecast or Google Cast would not (since Netflix wouldn't play from your iPad, it is just used as a remote). You don't really want to watch Netflix in SD on a big screen anyway I guess so I think it's safe to assume you're only benefiting from the data-free streaming on your primary device (the iPad in this case).

  • This one is much better than Xmas deal

  • +1

Thanks again Ozbargain you just cost me $80/month for 24 months. Have mercy it's only January.

  • Has anyone got a tracking number for delivery that shows their order is in transit?

Mine doesn’t seem to be in the system.

Wondering if it’s just mine and I’m just being impatient as next day delivery didn’t state what date it begins.

    • All I've received so far is a temporary order number. If I log into my account and check orders then it says I don't have any orders. I gather it was just a large influx of orders at the time but I'm sure it'll get there eventually.

      • You need to chase them up. I did today twice and they managed to get the order through. My order said it has left the warehouse but no tracking number. So I probably chase that up again later.

Edit: as soon as I finished chatting with Optus, tracking show up under my AusPost account by itself . Lol

        • +1

Was going to then late yesterday afternoon they messaged me that my order would be shipping soon then this morning I received a tracking number.

    • Me neither, ordered on Monday and I still havent got a confirmation, just the temp order :(
      Have you received yours Leo?

      • Looks like they're doing what they normally do when they have a lot of orders. They deliver to areas rather than who ordered first.

I received a message at 6am saying my order had left the warehouse. By 4pm it still said "in progress" and startrack had no tracking data so I contacted Optus. They said that it left the warehouse but hasn't arrived at Startrack facilities yet. No idea how long it takes to get from the warehouse to Startrack facilities but it's starting to look like I may not receive it until after the long weekend.

        • Yeah that's all good - I just "nominated" delivery date of today so thought i'd just give them a call thats all

        • @ddxsamx: Received today, so all good

  • I'll be watching gumtree for ipads the next few weeks! Would much rather have the data plan though…

  • +2

    Thanks OP.

Got one from Eastland in Victoria.

Didn't need an iPad or data plan, never had crossed my mind.
Being the good ozbargainer I am, I bought into another deal I didn't know I needed.

Going to cancel my adsl plan now…

  • +2

ordered over the phone yesterday 1.30 pm, got it delivered today 11 am, under 24 hours with optus is pretty impressive

    • I had that when I ordered my original iPad from Optus about 5 years ago. Came the next day. Ordered this one nearly 48 hours ago so a little slower but apparently it's coming today so can't complain.

    • Damn I ordered on Monday and I still havent got a confirmation, just the temp order :(

      • My order changed from a temp order to "approved" yesterday afternoon. This morning at 6am I received a message saying my order has left the warehouse and will be with me soon, but I haven't received a tracking number and Optus order tracking says that my order is in Progress.

  • +1

Confirmed via online chatting that this deal is available in store too!

  • Any good bargain deal for a bumper case for iPad pro 12.9?

    • Not sure about bumper cases but I found that the Australian Amazon store has some really cheap decent iPad Pro 12.9 cases. Many of them ship from the US though.

  • Tried to "migrate" to this new plan considering I got onto the plan on 3/1/18, and was told it's not possible. Spewin…

  • Out of stock everywhere apparently.

  • +1

    Ordered around midday

Asked online chat for a $15 monthly discount and they agreed

    • They wouldn't even give me with anything, full price, or even 1gb bonus data after 4 live chats that all dropped out, store wouldn't sell it to me AND telesales refused to even sell it to me as well! I can't even buy it with my wallet open!

    • what was the $15 monthly discount for?

      • -2

I just randomly asked and they agreed, dont ask me why

Ill have to see what it is on the bill

Got a logitech keyboard case price matched and beaten by OW

  • Spoke to Optus via online chat, telephone and no stock no back order.
Will not offer deal with different models.

Hmmm… will keep an eye wide open for the next deal for a 12.9 ipad.

    • +1

I went to the store yesterday and they didn't have any stock. However, they were still happy to place my order.
They advised the delivery will arrive around midweek next week. BTW, it was Chermside (QLD).
      Hope that's help.

      • Thanks, I also happened to visit the shops today, one said out of stock, another did say head office stopped them from selling and that they were out of stock.

He did take down my number and said that on Monday, head office may advise them whether they could get more stock in.

They are essentially selling at cost, and giving away the service for free, this could well be clearing of stock so doubt they would ‘order’ more in.

Happy for you that u got it though!

  • Does anyone know if any Optus Stores in NSW have stock?

    • +2

Optus is pretty shit TBH, always been a Telstra customer.

Called the call centre to check stock level was told they cannot access store stock levels, and been told to go to their website to check but it is broken and not fetching any data.

Wanted to give some feed back, but apparently they only take them via telephone/hand written letter, no option for emails/webform which is far more convenient. Could be mgt’s initiative to stop negative feedback though.

    Hey Guys/Girls,

Confirmed that Optus stores will take rainchecks for this deal.
Better get in quick and fast as the store manager wasn't sure when it would be taken off line.

    • Thanks. Where was this? I tried Chatswood and Macquarie one and they are of no help.
I might try the CBD stores tomorrow.

      • +1

Mt Druitt Westfield, Maybe get them to call that branch to confirm.
Worst case, If the raincheck ends up with no stock, They'll just cancel my contract. :)

  • the guy in CBD world time square can not do rainchecks but will take you details if the status changes

  • Confirming George St (CBD) store still has a couple left in stock.
I am getting mine as we speak now.

Two units at George St CBD next to Apple shop as at 13:45 29/1/2018.

  • this is why it's out of stock. I ordered one last week, and got it on Thursday, set it all up over the weekend.
Got another one delivered to me yesterday! Their mistake. Now I have been waiting on the phone over 30 mins now, trying to return it.. no one is picking up the phone

  • Anyone have advice on what settings i need to use in my modem when using usb dongle with the ipad sim in it

    • If auto doesn't work use "yesinternet" as APN

      • Thanks. Will give it a go tonight.

      • "yesinternet" wont work and auto appears to freeze up ar dial waiting…

        • have you tried "internet"?

  • Anyone aware if Optus is getting new stock of this?
Optus George Street is now also out of stock FYI.

  • +1

Currently back in stock on the Optus website. Just ordered one about 3 min ago.
