I don't understand why the mod deleted the other one…. it went active literally minutes after he deleted the post

anyway, full credit to the original poster whoever that was!

    • +7

It's me cause he said people cannot buy it yet so therefore he unpublish the bargain.

      • +6

Anyway, good work mate. The way I see it, is the earlier it comes up here, the more chance for ozbargainers to take advantage of the deal.

        • +4

I agree, I think exceptions should be made in these circumstances.

Its not like with Scoopon etc where you can buy huge quantities.

Otherwise we might find that the deal is gone before it hits the front page.

        • +1

          Pauly beat me to it..

Sam, it's something that could be up for consideration but…

Some past Dell swarms never sold
If we say Dell is an exception, then what happens when some other reps ask for an exception because Dell has one.

Anyway, good post. Waiting for something good from Dell to come along on these swarms.

      • liewehan, appreciated the post before, but I had to remove it since it was not active at the time of your first post. Like all group buy deals, they should only be posted when they become active.

And agreed, it is a good deal. Perhaps post it in the forum for any group buy deals that are inactive, but is worth a mention to alert others?

        • +2

I agree with Samfisher 9post above yours), we might miss this deal since there's limited quantities (eg 100 printers). Make an exception for these deals, I think Its quite worth it and im sure others would agree.

        • +1

Perhaps ozbargain has to move with the times and add some new way to post such deals?

      • +1

Or maybe if Dell Swarm consistently sell out their offer then the moderators can consider giving Dell an exception. As neil and pauly has stated, we are running of risk of partiality here so would need some reasons to justify it…

Edit: much still need to be discussed with the moderators.

Group buy deals that are not active when posted will be removed.

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

The reason being, we had people posting lots of these deals where many of them never became active. Instead, people were entering their details including their credit card and ending up with nothing. If it's truly a good deal then it will become active. So if the OP just waited the 5 minutes as was mentioned above and then posted, all would be good, this paragraph would have never happened and the rift in the space /time continuum repaired.

Neil, we agree pauly did the right thing mate, that was in accordance with ozb guidelines!

But I also agree with others that we should consider formalising an exceptions protocol where it is ok for certain deals. This thing has been up about an hour and there's only 10 left.

Perhaps we should set up a thread like we did for negative votes and see if some collective agreement can be reached. Eg where the 'tip' threshold is low or available stock below a certain amount?

        • -1

Exceptions for good group-buy type deals sound like a great idea, but like neil said above, this would be unfair to the many group-buy site reps here.

Yes we (as members) can discuss and propose some modifications to rules depending on quantity available, tip threshold, etc. But with these group-buy sites popping up all over the place, each site normally has its own system and IMHO further guidelines will make any extended rules even more complicated and subjective.

Also comes the complication of determining the exceptions. If we have a super duper smart algorithm that can filter the to-be popular swarms/group-buy deals from the non-popular ones, then this wouldn't be an issue. Again as neil has pointed out, some past dell swarms were never active. So should we still allow these deals to be posted when members have to submit their personal details but will end up not being able to purchase them?

And yes, by all means feel free to start a forum thread on this. I'm sure other members and mods would appreciate any positive ideas toward improving the quality of deals posted here :)

        • +1

Yeah the more I think about it, the more I see it becoming an unnecessarily complicated mess if formal exceptions are put it. It's too difficult and for it to be done properly a "subjective" element would be required to ascertain deal worthiness - but subjective based on who? Yup, messy.

In relation to your point about members wasting time signing up to deals that may not end up going live, I thought that perhaps we could have a big Tag display/icon of some sort for deals that were posted but had not yet gone live so that members could make up their own mind and be aware at the same time that it may not go ahead, but obviously the problems there are twofold: 1. it's a hypothetical bargain at that stage, and 2. reps from the group buy websites would start abusing this and continually spamming ozbargain in the hope that enough people click through from here and 'tip' the deal - and really there is only so many friggin massages and blow dries I would want in a year.

That said, it still doesn't take away from the fact that it would be nice if such deals could be brought to attention pre 'tip'. Alas we cant have it all sighs :)

(as i essentially ended up agreeing with you I responded here - however if this post has reached thread hijack status feel free to relegate me to the forum :))

It appears they got rid of the ink cartridge trick :P

    • Thanks! You saved me from buying it.
Looks like it is thirsty, the ink costs more than gold, and you cannot refill.
Would only have bought if the discount applied to extra cartridges, like last time.

  • +1

Yeah, not sure when posted but it went live pretty fast.

I got the “Dell V105” deal from last week, might give it to a friend and get myself this one. Any differences/improvements between this one and the previous Dell V105 printer?

Edit: Just reading through the Amazon reviews on this printer and it looks like it chews through the ink.

    • Yeah the reviews I read all say it's one thirsty unrefillable mother. Cheap price for the other all in one features it offers though.

  • Perfect sexy printer for cheap cheap!

  • thank you thank you thank you…..

  • Cheers mate, was looking for something extremely cheap yet wireless and this is it.

  • Any way to cancel the deal? I've committed to buy only to realise that this printer is an ink-drinker. There's no point of saving $60 on the printer then keep topping up the expensive catridges weekly imho.

    • +3

Just buy a new $20 printer once a week!

    • They need to sell the cartridges on the swarms. We bought the Dell 2200dn printer for $280 for work but the cartridges cost over $100 bucks.

      • ebay?

  • Great price, but what you save in purchase price you'll lose double in cartridges in a single month! :p

  • Oops! Wish I'd read the comments about the ink drinking before I swarmed.

  • is it free postage?

  • +1

    Yes, Jugg postage was included

  • this is the first time i've heard of this site, is it a dell website?

    • Yes, it's run by dell.

  • I swarmed on the deal, but having read the reviews about the ink guzzling (starter cartridge prints 16 pages), have decided not to buy it. I can't find any way of 'returning' the unique code, so someone else can benefit from the deal. I'm not sure if the code is linked to my account either. But if anyone wants the code to give it a try, I am happy to give it. Please PM me. Will send the code out only to the first person to ask.

    • That's nice of you. AFAIK it is not linked to your account but rather a randomly generated single use unique code, but dont hold me to it :)

    • 16 pages?? what kind of rubbish is this.

  • argh..I missed out again.

  • ….missed again~

  • +1

for those that missed this deal:

    https://www.epson.com.au/shoponline/shop/DisplayProduct.asp?…

not as good but for $25 + $7 post you cant do that badly.

    7 remaining.

    • sold out!

  • I have a code available. I decided not to proceed with the purchase. Msg me if you want the code. Its valid till the end of the week I believe!

  • I have a code available too. I registered but thought I missed out because I never received any confirmation emails. Then I found it in the spam folder today, but too late for me as my Xerox printer arrived today. msg me if you want the code.
