I must be reading the price wrong ^_^.

    • Coupon Code - MIPROJECTOR1 will bring the price down by US$256

    Plus customs fee

    • +4

Considering that, this was a better deal

    • +1

Question how does cumtoms know what to charge you?

      • +3

They go by what’s on the invoice attached to the parcel

        • +2

They will often check the invoice inside or lookup market value if they still think it’s dodge.

  • Here's the USD currency link:
    https://www.lightinthebox.com/mi-dlp-home-theater-projector-…

Should come out cheaper this way rather than using litb crappy exchange rates.

  • +1

Will incur 10% gst on top of that price given its over $1000

  • But warranty?

  • +1

Anyone who had this projector can comment about its performance? Very tempted

    • +4

I have this one at home, worth the money.

      • +2

Second this, i got a friend to bring over from China.

Amazing value for an Ultra short throw. There are cheaper and better projectors out there. I.e. Benq just released a 4k for USD1500, however the size you can achieve from one of these from about 20-30cm from the wall is amazing. Image is uniform and bright, some people talk about rainbow effect, i haven't seen any.

I'd say this is only a good buy if you need something for a tight space and cant go down the traditional road or dont want a roof mounted traditional projector.

Sauce: i have both this and a traditional Panasonic pt-ae8000. Both produce similar quality, i'd still give the panasonic the edge. But this fits so much better in my bedroom, while my other is in the rumpus room.

  • 106 inches at a throw distance of 26cm? that is awesome.

    • +1

Be prepared to find every tiny little bump and crease on your screen!

      • +1

Why is that? Because of the angle of light?

        • +2

          Yes

      • i have this and project onto a wall. Shows a bit more of the bumps than a traditional screen, but barely noticeable.

If you really are buying this you could spend money on a good tab tensioned screen

        • +4

If you really are buying this you could spend money on a good tab tensioned screen

Eh, having no screen, just a blank wall, is one of the things I like about of my projector setup. With the brightness of modern projectors, there's not really any noticeable difference between a proper screen and an off-white wall nowadays.

        • +1

          @ItsMeAgro:

Exactly, same thoughts! I think it would be irritating to watch content with different aspect ratio when you have a screen with border ;-)

        • +1

          @ItsMeAgro:
I agree! I am running this on my wall.

I have had tab tensioned screens in the past.

  • Tried to buy one of these in China, but the girlfriend wouldn't let me.

This is actually a decent price on aud.

Unfortunately I've been unable to find a display model or a good review, so can't say whether this is good or not.

  • +21

Don't buy this projector. I bought one and had to return it (return cost me $400 after return fees and postage from geekbuying). First the screen cannot be projected perfectly straight (top edges curve, you can see this in youtube reviews). The top half of the image was blurry. I bought it to replace my benq w1080+ and the benq was better. The Xiaomi was also not noticibly brighter than the benq and the colours and overall picture of the benq were more natural and nicer. The blurry picture and inability to project a straight image was a dealbreaker. The inbuilt speaker was pretty good though.

    • +1

Because it is indeed not brighter than your old benq. See my comments below.

    • Do you have any photos of the unstraight image, I am not 100% sure what your referring too.

      • If you watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sk7G3MDtys, around 4 min into the video you will see how wonky the picture is. You can also see that the edges taper downwards on the top corners. You can somewhat adjust the keystone, but never get it perfectly straight (especially the corners), which is super annoying for such an expensive projector. Also have a look at 4.30 sec on the video.

        • Could that just be from not using a projector screen? The projectors is unable auto focus/alighting on a uneven surface?

looking at this video, this dude gets it straight. https://youtu.be/B_eIlYaloT4?t=222
I am still unsure if I should drop the monies on this one.

        • It could just be the angle but the in the video you linked it still looks like the image isn't completely straight along the top, dipping slightly in the centre.

        • +1

The straight line issue is not from the projector, it is the wall isn't flat enough. Due to the angle of the projection, it amplifies it when the projection surface isn't flat. You better get a proper screen in order to get straight image.

As for the brightness, 5000 Lumen is the light source Lumen, XIAOMI has fooled us with this new concept, after all the optic processing, the output lumen is around 1300 Lumen, it is just the brightness of an LED projector.

    • Do you have the YouTube link about this issue? Your post got me to re-think about this purchase.

    • I have not had any of these issues, my screen is all straight without key stoning! Just set a straight angle to wall.

Also did you focus the screen using the manual focus. The automatic focus did a good job, but i found manually focusing it made it even clearer

all xiaomi products should be < $300

  • Judging by the comments, I'm not expecting an "Out of Stock" tag on this deal anytime soon!

  • I think just buy a TV for day use and a Epson for the movies. perfect setup lol.
Using 220 watts for day to day use is just overkill. My Epson pulls only ~180w (However it's in Eco mode)

    • My 65" 2016 top end Sony LED lit LCD that cost me $4000 at the time uses 220W. Haha.

      • +2

now its OLED for that price

        • +2

          Don't remind me.

  • +1

Perfect for an application like this?

  • +3

Thank Fark I don't have the wall space to project this on, saved myself $2000

  • Does anyone have one of these and are they worth it?

    • +1

I had one. They are defintely not worth the price. Get a benq or another more established projector brand. My benq w1080+ performed better and cost half the price.

      • I like the idea of having it close to the wall instead of having to run cables thru ceiling for roof mount projector

  • +6

Pls be aware that this projector is nowhere near 5000 ANSI lumens. Its Chinese official website states that "The brightness of the light source is 5000 lumens". 3rd party tests suggest it is between 1200-1500 ANSI lumens.

    • +1

If it's really that low then your better off getting one of the LG LED PF1500G
I have one in me theatre room, provided you can control the light in the area it's perfect, but I would not be putting it into a sun lit living room with lumens that low!

    • I'd say its comparable to my 3000 panasonic projector in terms of lumens at the wall

      • +1

Yes that's possible as the ANSI lumen only measures white light output. Laser projectors have a Color Light Output (CLO) of 100% while traditional 1 DLP projectors with a colour wheel has much lower CLO.

IMO the projector itself is okay for the money, but Xiaomi obviously wanna use the "5000 lumens" slogan deceptively to mislead consumers to think that they are buying a much brighter projector than it actually is. In the Chinese market they also strongly emphasise that this is a 4K (small print: compatible) projector rather than simply saying its physical resolution is 1080p.

It is no doubt one of the most affordable laser projectors out there, just be sure that you know what you are really getting.

    • +2

"The 5000 lumen number on the Xiaomi is a typical Chinese vendor playing funny numbers – apparently there are 3 lasers around 1600 lumens each which don't actually output 5000 (you can't just add the numbers together lol)"

I'm a photographer, and I'm very serious for the picture quality. To be honest, the picture quality is really above my expectation. My kids also enjoy it as they can watch cartoon movie on bed. Highly recommend.

    • +4

      Such review.

  • Projector tech lags badly compared to TVs. Just now 4K projectors at a decent price are coming to market, but half of those aren’t actually 4K and they are all too expensive. You’d be nuts buying a 1080p projector. If anything needs 4K it’s soemthing with a 100inch screen.

    • You could see its a short term buy 3-5 years, until 4k UST projectors become more common. The cheapest Chinese alternative at that range are 8-12k, with Sony coming in at 25k

    • +1

I agree that 4k is mostly a waste for the 50" or less TVs most people buy, and the huge image size of projectors make use of 4K much better.

But the hard truth is that 4K is a significant but subtle improvement in viewing quality over 1080p, not a large one, like going to HDR, or going from 50" to 100". So for film and cinematic gaming, a 1080p projector is still going to beat the 50" 4K TVs so many people have now in terms of immersion in the content and overall quality of the experience.

You'd think a 1080p projector would be noticeably low res after getting used to 4k TVs, but the fact is, it's not that apparent. I had a 720p projector until a few months ago. Literally nobody noticed it wasn't 1080p. All were surprised when I told them.

A quality 1080p projector costs about $1000 and is still the best bang-for-buck film/gaming display right now.

      • -1

Mate I can tell a cinema screen is 2K after having had exposure to 4K TVs for years. You can see every pixel.

        • +1

I hope you have figured in the size of the screen too, unless your 4K TV is same size as the 2K cinema screens ;-)

Pixels do not have a fixed size. Their size is relative to the screen's resolution and size

  • Hey look, another front page deal simply thanks to mentioning the magic X word

  • -7

Ozbargain is being diluted with Xiaomi deals. It disgusts me!!

    • It's not like other deals aren't being posted.

  • +3

AUD 2300 with no warranty and support.
IMO not a bargain. If Kogan is selling at this price then it is less risky

  • +8

Spend more than 2 grand on one of these websites? lol No thanks

    • +1

In the early days Aliexpress had a delivery on time or full refund guarantee.

I lodged a claim and they simply could not fathom that I had received an item and STILL wanted a refund.

      I eventually gave up.

  • -1

Didnt they have 70" Sony 4k's cheaper than this.. its a no from me.

  • +1

    bought one thanks

  • -1

Dunno why you would be one of these at that price over an equivalent Epson / Benq that can be purchased locally with warranty and no customs charges..
I'm betting they are far superior in every aspect over the Xiaomi and will be cheaper..
I'm all for Xiaomi products and have a few which are very good. But I'd be sticking to the big named brands when it comes to projectors.

    • +1

that's a bold bet for someone im betting who haven't used a Xiaomi projector before.

      • +2

Haven't used one. But paying $2k for a projector from China with limited/no warranty and customs charges? No thanks.
Reviews are mixed on it anyhow.. Short throw might be handy for some, not an issue/feature for me. I'll stick with the big brands in this dept for the time being. Good on Xiaomi for releasing it though. I don't have an issue with them entering into the market.

    • +1

Would you get an Epson / Benq which has Laser, HDR, 3D, ultra short throw and 4K support at this price range?

I currently have an LG LED projector and it is way better than the bulky, noisy and hot bulb ones :-)

"far superior in every aspect over the Xiaomi" - wonder how?!

    • +1

I think people are sucked in with the name : Xiaomi, 5000 lumens and Laser source.
But based on few members actual feedback, looks like lumens are not accurate, so it is quite risky purchase I would say.

    • +1

This actually is native 4k, unlike the 'support 4k' nonsense which should be banned from all marketing.

      • You mean native UHD.
Native 4K projectors are a lot more expensive.

        For example:
        https://www.amazon.com/Sony-VPLVW285ES-Theater-Video-Project…

        • +2

Ok my terminology is a bit off, but 3840x2160 for the BenQ is much higher than Full HD (1920x1080).

Looks like that one you linked to is 4096 x 2160, which is only 256 pixels extra horizontally.

        • +2

          @leTintin:
          Yes, but 4096 x 2160 is considered True 4K.
          3840 x 2160 is Ultra HD (UHD).

Just clarifying. Knowledge is power when it comes to consumer buying decisions, it's important to know what you are getting.
          I can't stand marketing fluff.

A lot of projectors also state: "HDR Compatible".
What this means is they accept an HDR signal, but they convert it to SDR for playback, which actually makes the picture quality worse than just outputting SDR natively from the source.

Anyway, always do your research before spending big $$$.

        • @leTintin:

Nah, you're correct, 4K is 3840x2160. That's the res of 4k blu-rays and most 4K displays. It's easy to remember as it's exactly double the width and height of 1080p (1920x1080) for exactly 4 times the pixels.

    • Hi - do you know what warranty is provided? I want to buy and understand it is not a local warranty but want some comfort that if it dies quickly I will be provided a new one or a refund?

      • it's 3 months, more information you can check here
        https://www.lightinthebox.com/nh/Return-Policy.html?prm=1.3.…

and i will check this again with our supplier to see if we can get any further warranty.

        • That would be great if the warranty was a bit longer. Let me know how you go.

        • @jtc13: hi again, warranty still 3 months. if this broken in warranty, you can send it back for repair or exchange. we will cover the shipping fee

        • @MiniInTheBox: thanks for trying any way. I went ahead and made the purchase. Thanks for posting this deal.

Does it come with Australia power plug or just an adapter?

Also, why is it only 3 month warranty when other sellers such as gearbest, buymobile and other ebay sellers all offer 1 year warranty?

        • @nm201: just an adapter, and the warranty is different between every company, we are thinking improve some policy this year, but still planing.

  • Anyone know if there is any warranty whatsoever via Light in the box?

I am keen but some have suggested no warranty at all.

  • This review I found on Whirlpool has convinced me to get one. Go to the bottom of the page to read the review from "gpggooner"

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2692454

I get that it might not be great on the screens but I am planning on projecting onto a white wall and the rest of what he says matches other strong reviews I have heard about from someone else who has it.

Can't wait to get it now and test it all out!

  • Has anyone had trouble connecting hdmi arc to a sound bar to this projector? I have a Panasonic sc-htb485 sound bar. I've enabled viera link on the sound bar and hdmi(arc) - pmc on the projector but no sound coming out. I've tried 4 high speed hdmi cables. I can control the sound bar volume with the projector remote. I've tried the arc on another TV and it works so looks like I'm missing something in the projector settings

  • Does it come with Australia power plug or just an adapter?

Also, why is it only 3 month warranty when other sellers such as gearbest, buymobile and other ebay sellers all offer 1 year warranty?

    • Mine came with Australian plug. Bought from buymobile.

      • Are you happy with it? Have you played games on it? If so what's the input lag like?

        • I am very happy with it. I haven’t played games on it but it gives a bright picture. It’s and amazing piece of kit. If they bring out a 4K one I will buy another one for the lounge.

      • Thanks. I ordered a 3 pin clover power cable for it.
