FAQ

Where do I enter the coupon code?

  • When you click "Proceed to Checkout" button, it'd say below the payment method "Have Coupon?"

It's showing me higher AUD price than mentioned in the title

  • Choose USD as your currency from top left hand corner. Don't select AUD, always choose to pay in USD, it will work out cheaper even after your credit card conversion fees. Also read the below.

How do I ensure I get the cheapest AUD price possible

  • To avoid higher currency conversion rates and to get cheapest price from these Chinese websites, you should get a credit card that charges zero currency conversion fees. 28Degrees, Bankwest Zero, Coles Mastercard are generally popular. Irrespective of what credit card you use, always choose to pay in USD on these Chinese websites, (Go back to main page, Choose "USD" from top left hand corner). Additionally set your Paypal so it "bills you in the currency on Seller's Invoice". To set your PayPal account this way permanently, follow the steps shown in these snapshots [Highly recommended]

  • Is this 4G/4G or 4G/2G ?

    • +1

      4G/3G

      • Thank you.

Considering this and HTC U Ultra.

  • From the reviews it seems like LITB is selling the Global Version.

      Android One system

    • +2

If it helps. Android One is only available in Global. There is no Chinese ver for this OS.

  • So tempting with this price.

  • +4

Not really cheaper … other deal includes DHL express shipping. These guys charge US$40+ for that !

    • The other deal is on Rose Gold only, this one is on Gold and Black both.

  • +2

Anyone know how long LightinTheBox shipping takes to Australia?

Hopefully I receive it before the Xiaomi Mi A2 is released :/

    • +1

My orders have been a bit hit and miss - all have been delivered eventually but it's been a difference of a week at the fastest and 2 months with invalid shipping numbers/wrong updates at the slowest

      • which tier shipping did you choose?

    • +1

For a big ticket item like this, the shipping should be relatively faster with a proper tracking number but I would still allow 3-4 weeks.

      • Thanks.

  • Sonuvabitch. I just bought a Redmi 5+ then they have a deal on this? Arghhh

  • +1

Great deal ! I've got the mi5x which is the same as this however runs miui I can flash stock android as well!

This phone is amazing, sadly it's not NFC enabled.
I want a phone with NFC enabled so bad, anyone got recommendations? Thanks!

    • google pixel 2 xl

    • Moto G5S Plus. Same processor as this one but with NFC. Screen and build quality is better on this though.

      • Thank you,
Will consider to buy this phone then!

  • +2

I have this phone and its really good just wish they had put in NFC.

    • +2

If your with commbank $2 gets you a CBA tag which you stick to the back of the phone wack a case on and you'll never know it didn't have NFC 😂

      • +1

I did this. Recently switched to the Mi A1 but didn't want to go without mobile payments so just ordered a NAB PayTag. 😂

        • See easy!

      • Nice i will order one thank you

  • What phone is this comparable to?

    • +1

      Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

The RN4 is probably better value than the A1 at around AU$80+ less.

      Side-by-side comparison: https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/xiaomi-mia1,xiaomi-redmi-…

RN4 has a bigger battery, slightly better camera (subjectively - but neither are awesome by today's standards), more 4G bands (neither have band 28, of course :)…

But the A1 has 1GB extra RAM, more storage (but both support SD cards), USB C…

So, as usual, it depends on what features you value.

And if you're not a fan of MIUI, the big difference is that the RN4 has official LineageOS support, while the A1 doesn't.

      • I've done abit of research and it seems the sweet spot for sub $170-250 phones are the Xiaomi Mi A1 and Redmi Note 4.

Which one would you say is the better choice overall?

I'm just looking into purchasing one for my parents to get into the smart phone market, would the Mi A1 be better given it has the extra RAM for future proofing? Is the extra 1 GB worth the money you'd say? I guess the USB C is a big factor too.

        • It's line ball, but if you can justify the extra dollars, the A1 is definitely a great mid-range phone.

If your parents are typical new, light users, they're not really going to notice much of a difference in use or longevity when it comes to the hardware.

Having stock Android Oreo on the A1 (as sharky_k highlights below) is better IMHO for a few reasons. Latest security patches, and probably get new ones faster. Arguably far more online help for stock Android compared to MIUI - not that MIUI is lacking in help. And if they move to another brand phone running Android in the future, most phones are more like stock Android than MIUI, so the jump would be easier.

        • @surethang:

Then again, don't upgrade too fast until the bugs are ironed out.

          https://www.gsmarena.com/oreo_update_for_xiaomi_mi_a1_suspen…

          Happens with most phones.

      • +1

A1 doesn't run MIUI. It runs officially supported clean Android.

        • Awesome. Thanks, sharky_k. (Sorry about the bad assumption, folks.)

          Makes the A1 even nicer.

  • +2

Same wishlist for this as for most Xiaomi phones - that is separate SD card slot and Sim 2 slot (want to be able to have a memory card and use & change SIM 2 slot at the same) and NFC and band 28. Ideally sold by a local retailer so there is a proper no-BS legally-enforceable warranty. Hopefully we'll get there someday, will keep waiting :-)

Am I correct in seeing this phone lacks 700mhz for 4G? Useless if you're not with vodaphone then?

    • Reasoning instead of negs would be nice.

      • +4

Yeah, asking simple questions shouldn't get downvotes. But this has been discussed for years on OzBargain, so I guess a few people are just over it or something.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257954

Yes, the Mi A1 doesn't support band 28, but that will generally only be an issue if you live in (or visit) certain regional areas.

www.oztowers.com.au can help you determine if you'll be affected. If you live in the city or urban area, it's not really an issue.

    Missed it :(
    Showing $269.99US for me.

  • Anyone got a tracking number yet?

    • No my order is PROCESSING, ordered around 1pm 26/1.

    • I ordered something else from them on 24/1. Status is still PROCESSING too.

This is why I never order from LightInTheBox (and other deliberately slow dispatchers) unless it's an absolute bargain. From reading the many comments on OzBargain, I'm not alone.

      • Just received an email from LightInTheBox my order has just been shipped.

        • I've been checking the 17track and postnl websites since 1st Feb - it's been at "The item is pre-advised" the whole time but just changed to "The item is at the PostNL sorting center". I guess it's going to be at least another week to get to Aus.

        • Now changed to "The item is on transport to the country of destination".

        • Congrats I hope you now receive it ASAP, my tracking number isn't appearing on either tracking site yet, BUT LITB did mention in the email this: (tracking number is expected to take effect after 5 days).

        • +2

          @vimfuego:

It took 6 days for my tracking number to appear.

          List of events so far:

          • 26 Jan LITB site says "shipped"
          • 1 Feb - tracking number shows up
          • 30 Jan - tracking site shows "The item is pre-advised" (must have been a delay updating the tracking number on LITB site)
          • 7 Feb - item arrived at sorting centre
          • 8 Feb - on transport to Australia

The postNL site suggests that it takes 6-11 business days to go from there to Australia !

        • @AdrianW:

Thanks AdrianW thats very helpful & now mine has entered the "item is pre-advised" stage I have some idea of the time frame before it makes another move.

        • @vimfuego:

Same boat, though I expected it to take up to a month without DHL

          29/1 - Ordered
          9/2 - "Shipped"

Still waiting on tracking number to become active

        • Not in the spirit of Ozbargain - but I'm sure we'd have got much quicker shipping here: https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q…

And the price isn't that much more.

          -edit-
I just noticed they have a $15 off coupon for phones - brings in down to almost the same.

        • Now mine has updated to "The item has arrived in the country of destination". Hopefully it arrived in Perth and not Sydney!

        • Well, it arrived - one week after the date shown as "The item has arrived in the country of destination" on the tracking site. A total of 24 days after the "shipped date" shown on my LITB orders page.

        • @AdrianW: I ordered 26/1. Mine was 'pre-advised' on 9/2, and on 20/2 it arrived at the PostNL centre for sorting haha. Far out, don't think I'll use LITB again.

        • @Guy Incognito:

Wow - you'll probably get around 5th March. Apparently one of the issues is that China Post won't directly ship items with batteries, so they end up going by PostNL which is super slow. But it's weird that LITB too so long to get it shipped in the first place.

But, the phone is awesome - I'm very happy with it. Came fully sealed. The included charger has a three prong UK plug, but they included a UK to AU adapter in the outer box.

        • @Guy Incognito:
Think our phones will end up on the same plane, mine also hit PostNL centre for sorting on the 20/2 but I just checked the PostNL tracker it is now telling me that The item is on transport to the country of destination while 17Track still showing it is sorting.

          @AdrianW:
Great to read yours arrived & that your happy with it.

        • Well to my SHOCK according to 17track & PostNL now on the 25/02 The item has arrived in the country of destination after leaving on the 21/02, guess now its how long AusPost take to get it to me in Melbourne.

        • @vimfuego:

Mine took a week to be delivered in Perth from the date listed next to "The item has arrived in the country of destination".

        • @vimfuego: Haha, my phone must have definitely been on the same plane, because I've got the same info!

        • @Guy Incognito:

There must of been some massive tail wind as AdrianW said above PostNL say 6-11 business days to get here & ours was here in 2 business days (4 total).

My phone was delivered today in melbourne (which was my biggest concern with LITB having read some horror stories), it looks like it will be a very nice upgrade from my trusty old MotoG 2nd Gen but being the idiot I am I forgot to change my micro sims over to nano which I will need to do tomorrow.

        • @vimfuego: Oh what, you got yours?! No fair! I'm still waiting… I'm in Newcastle, so hopefully tomorrow.

        • @Guy Incognito:

Yeah mate I did, guess the plane did land in Melbourne, I hope yours has made it to Newcastle by now & isn't stuck in a traffic jam on the M1.

        • @vimfuego: Haha, you bet it did! Absolutely loving it, very slick piece of kit. :D

  • Is anyone having issues with their phone stuck on the reboot loop?

So the phone is only a couple of days old. It was working fine and I set it to auto update software. I woke up to find the phoen stuck in the 3 menus:
    1-reboot
    2-wipe data
    3-connect with MI assistant

I tried all the options and it keeps going back to the same screen.

I have also tried folliwng the instructions provided in the link for the MIUI Rom flashing tool refer to link below. But the phone is locked and I can't unlock it because the phone won't turn on. I have applied to get it unlocked via the laptop but cannot access the sms code it sends.
    http://en.miui.com/a-234.html

    Any help would be appreciated.

    • Do you have any of the volume buttons etc stuck or pressed? Take the phone out of any casing if there is any and just try pressing all the buttons a few time to make sure none of the buttons is getting stuck and then try reboot.

      • Hi,
It's not stuck because I can get to the fastboot screen.
        Any other ideas?

        • I can give you my login details if you wanna unlock Bootloader and reflash the fastboot ROM. Just PM me.
