Detecting fire alarms is pretty cool, but would pay a bit more for one that detects fires

Is there some australian standard for these things?

    • +1

Indeed there is, AS/NZS 1670. I have a feeling if you get one of these, insurance may not cover you.

Why wouldn't your insurance cover you? These are to enable occupants to get out not save the building. Read your PDS.

The detector may not react within the time specified in the standards, and since there is no way to ensure that these detectors will react quickly, insurances will use this to their advantage and not cover you. Depends on how much your insurance is willing to investigate when you need to make a claim.

        • @ccsvchost:

The detector may not react within the time specified in the standards

So you think the Australia Standards are special and different to all the other standards around the world?

and since there is no way to ensure that these detectors will react quickly

You mean by testing them which anyone can easily and safely do with a single can.

insurances will use this to their advantage and not cover you.

What part of the PDS is this stated in or are you just making this utter rubbish up? Consumer smoke detectors having nothing to do with the building, they are to allow people to exit so they can watch their house burn to the ground. The level of ignorance amongst so many people with insurance is truly breathtaking.

Depends on how much your insurance is willing to investigate when you need to make a claim.

Where in your insurance does it say you have to have Australian Standard smoke detectors to be able to make a claim?

I got one to compliment my existing and not as a replacement. You'd be sill to do a complete replacement.

  • Why does the smoke detector need US adapter before adding to cart? Runs on batteries?

  • How good would that laptop be for school?

Is the Xiaomi Mi A1 the Global Version?

    • Doing some research and it seems like since this is running android one so there isnt a 'global' version so you should be fine in getting it

  • Seems cheap here - https://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/xiaomi-mi-a1-dual-s…

$265 inc. shipping. Apparently shipping is only 3-5 working days.

Anyway, I wanted to confirm there is no such thing as a "global" version with lightinthebox. I've already ordered but should have checked before because their customer service is horrendous. I emailed them and they just referred me to the product page. I've replied back to them about 3-4x now, and they simply just keep referring me back to their description page
