  • How old are the batteries on these? How much does it cost to replace it?

      • That's ONLY if an unauthorized repairer hasn't repaired the phone.

Apple will not touch the phone if they can tell that an unauthorized repairer has repaired it.

This 'deal' sucks. Just buy one used off Gumtree / OCAU / eBay from an original owner and get a proof of purchase and a proof of transaction.

Then you may be able to get a phone that's under two years old annd has warranty remaining (check by serial number before buying).

With such a used phone, you can be sure that Apple will replace the battery for $39.

Or, just buy the 16GB version brand new for $487: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162852022713

You get the full two year Apple warranty and a brand new phone.

        • Will they not replace batteries if its identified it has been worked on by someone 'unauthorized'? Can anyone confirm this?

          https://www.businessinsider.com.au/leaked-apple-document-how…

And I have witnessed them refuse to repair a phone with a badly botched non-Apple battery replacement. YMMV.

          @tomwood:
Recently got my iPhone battery replaced ($39 ftw) and the blue shirt Genius said something like "if the phone had a third-party battery or had gotten wet they wouldn't cover the battery replacement". He didn't say anything about third-party parts though.

Have these been slowed down by Apple with their software updates?

    • It depends what version of iOS they come with out of the box. If the previous owner has upgraded the iOS then yes most likely.
      It's a gamble either way.

    • Personal experience: 6S is fine. 6 is borked. Going to get the battery replaced on the 6 to see if that helps. It's completely unusuable sinnce updating to iOS 11.

  • +1

6s runs great with latest software. The 6 on the other hand has seen slow downs

    • +2

6s has 2gb of ram, seems iOS 11 hurts the lower ram devices like the 6 and 5s.

  • +2

Good price. Take to Apple replace battery.

    • That's ONLY if an unauthorized repairer hasn't repaired the phone.

Apple will not touch the phone if they can tell that an unauthorized repairer has repaired it.

      Cool blog post bro

    • 30+75+15=120
      250-120=130?

Edit: you put 175 before :p

        Hah I'm smart.

        • -4

Don't worry, they are just jealous.

      Thanks for letting us know.

what does "A Grade Preowned" mean? as oppposed to…B grade?>

    • +11

Some arbitrary marketing buzzword that sounds good to trick sheeples (like the 6 that have already voted positive) that this is some sort of bargain.

      • haha, exactly!
this is a used phone - do you really want one let alone pay that much for it?

      • 10 now, more will keep coming

  • +7

Second hand iPhone with scratches and blemishes and they want more than 50% of RRP? At the very least also needs battery replacement (this year only $39 but normally $119) and the "12-month warranty" is a gamble at best. Who honestly thinks this is a bargain?

Better off paying $449 for a brand new iPhone 6 32GB (Jb-Hifi) and get new battery, no scratches, no blemishes, and 2-years Apple warranty. Misses out on Touch 3D and a few other spec bumps, but no gambling involved.

    • Not worth it for pre owned iPhone, phone probably switches off at 25-30% coz of faulty 🔋

    • +4

I agree the price is high for iPhone 6s, but then you do get 2GB RAM rather than the 1GB in the iPhone 6. Anyone that uses Facebook can tell you how much their "new” iPhone 6 lags when reading linked articles compared to friends with a 6s or newer.

For my money, I’d go the iPhone 7 32GB for $499

    • Second hand iPhone with scratches and blemishes

      Yes, but….

"your item will arrive in brand new generic packaging"

good to know something won't be blemished.

    • Although yes kinda, you are getting an inferior product that has performance issues straight out of the box with latest IOS. Just because you can get an older phone with lesser specs NEW for same price, does not make it a better/worse deal.

    • 2 year old hardware too, you can't expect much from these, they use A9 which is a custom dual-core ARM v8. Keep in mind these will be underclocked at the kernel level if you want the latest security updates, etc.

    • Get NEW iphone and then get new batteries. LOL! What a rip off. People buying iphones should be ashamed of themselves.

  • This is not an Apple refurb so it may not have a new battery and case. It may also have non stardard screen if it was replaced..

    • +1

But this one is "A Grade".

      • +1

A grade, if this is cotd it will stink

    • Apple will do the Battery replaced for $39. lol

      • You would think for A Grade it would have a new one.

What these would be are phones that work and look OK after a wipe with an oily rag.

  • +3

    A grade rip off

  • Got a friend who refurbishes phones for a big company - he himself admits that there's often second grade parts being used but iphones sell so well that refurbished they're still making a motza. So buyer beware!

I myself have a 6S that runs great but got it from Certified Tech Direct which was a great experience Runs pogo really well. Got another refurbished phone from another seller on ebay - ran like rubbish. Got rid of it but lost about $80-100 on the resell.

  • +2

Catch of the day selling 2nd hand phones?

That's enough reason not too buy one.

  • +1

Gumtree has similar pricing. At least with these, you’ve got some kind of avenue to claim a warranty. With Gumtree, you’re basically on your own.
