S model is USFF and will not fit a low profile GPU.

That said, I've got one for work and they're bloody amazing little things.

Just to clarify - my comment is no longer relevant, the deal has been updated to a batch of SFF non-S CPU models which do support low profile GPUs.

If is model as per picture (2 rows of IO ports) they're still quite compact, similar size to most gaming consoles. If they're the other SFF model they're a little larger - similar size to a standard average smaller PC case, just thinner.

Edit: the larger size may actually only be for older series… See picture here of 9010.

      In order left to right:
USFF, SFF (small CD Drive), SFF (full 5.25"), Desktop.

  • Sorry noob question - do they have HDMI port or I will need to use some sort of adapter?

Also can I add an extra HDD or SSD without removing the DVD ROM? Does it come with a 2.5inch SSD mount/bracket?

    • +3

You need a Displayport to HDMI adapter which is a $1 part

If it doesn't have any extra SSD mounts.. nothing wrong with double sided tape!

      • +2

I just let emhang loose :] the old paradigms no longer apply!

      • +1

nothing wrong with double sided tape!

There is no spare SATA port in the USFF.

      • Be careful with this Ive bought one and it didnt work. Maybe it couldnt drive two monitors at once. You probably need an active one. If you want audio its need to be a display port ++

Either that or get a cheapie GPU like I ended up doing

      • the mount has dual ssd support with included screws

    • Doesn't look like it

One 2.5 HDD, no PCI slots.

  • great price if you dont need it for a gaming pc

  • Wondering the power supplier is the standard one or not. Dell power suppliers often fail after 3-4 years. I am pretty sure it is not for this form factor.

    • Dell power suppliers often fail after 3-4 years.

really? which ones? Never heard that.

I'd be interested to know as well.

Last time there was a Major issue with Dell's Desktops was the Capacitor Plague…… Ahhhhhh those were they days.

        • Before we switched to laptops, there were a bunch of Dell desktops here at my workplace which had aftermarket PSU's in them. They were a number of years old, and I don't know how indicative they were.

      • Two of my friends desktop pc had power supplier failure, does it mean anything?

        • Could just be unlucky. What models where they?

        • @Calmago: no idea about the models, but they were brought from Dell online.

        • @slackme:

So probably not Optiplex, but cheaper consumer models?

  • does it come with Windows OS?

    • +1

Yes, it comes with Windows 10 Professional Edition.

Sold out guys, I only had a couple.

I'll post up a deal if I can drum up enough stock of a particular popular product

    • +1

Usually deals posted on OzBargain, there must be 10+ in stock.

but ohhh well - well done.

  • These are really good office / PCs for your mum and dad for the price, got one for my brothers home office late last year (without SSD unfortunately)

  • sigh only just bought an i3 NUC as a bit of a cheap low-power VM box, this thing would have been ideal.

    • The NUCs are great once they sort out the firmware for the particular model. Even works for light gaming.

Was having issues with the display cutting out. Resolved with firmware only to find that those firmwares ran the USB 3 ports at USB 2 speed. Thankfully the very latest firmware for mine fixes both issues and while it's early days I haven't had a problem yet.

Other problem I have is with the 32GB eMMC on my unit running out of room to run Win 10 updates. I ought to clone it to the HDD I bought but am worried it'll go wrong and I'll wind up losing the license. Now I'm on Fall Creator I think I'll switch the LAN to metered.

Finally the older Intel drivers seem to work better. An old version of Paintshop Pro 9 gets stuck at the splash screen unless I use older drivers.

These aren't minor quirks but once sorted it's a great little media player and plays older games.

Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with NUCs. I bought a DN2820 (Celeron) NUC when it first came out and it's been a great little media centre box that's been on pretty much 24/7 since I got it.

I'm sure the i3 will be great too, it's only been running for a week but other than a minor driver issue in ESXI (had to inject some working NIC drivers) everything is going smoothly so far. Those 9020s just have a bit more grunt and expandability while still being rather compact, plus I could potentially scavenge an i7 CPU from work to put in it.

At the end of the day the NUC will outlive any Dell refurb so it's no big deal, motherboards and PSUs seem to become a little questionable in Dells of that vintage.

  • These make a tidy little media-pc, for those still stuck in the age of optical media.

Swap out the DVD drive for a blu-ray drive, clone the hdd onto a larger one, and away you go

I've found a trolley with 18 of the Small Form Factor version with the same specifications so the listing has been updated.

    • Any other USFF coming soon?

      • No sorry. All USFF stock currently designated for export.

        • Just curious on where they go? 3rd world cities or just asia for resell?

    • hi mate, so can the SFF version accomodate a 3.5" drive? (happy for the SSD to be hanging or velcro'd)

      • By standard they take a 3.5" Hard Drive.

These will have the dell 2.5" Adapters which take 2 x 2.5" Drives.

You can remove the optical drive and have 1 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5" drive, but you still need to get a SATA power splitter.

        • If it's a full size optical drive (5.25") it'll usually have a double caddy already inside that fits 2.5" one side and 3.5" other side. These are usually a larger case though.

If it's not full size optical drive, it won't fit a full size 5.25 to 3.5" adaptor?

    • Appears to be out of stock again. Any plans on restocking?

  • I'm right to run 2 displays from this? I have looked at the specs and have no idea because ive got no idea, thanks!

    • It has 2 DisplayPort, so you can connect to 2 DisplayPort equipped monitors.

  • Will these work fine to watch netlfix and browse the internet at home?

    • Absolutely!

    • Most defo. 990 Sff here with i5-2400 and 8GB ram. Runs chrome fine. Ive added an ssd I had lying around and this comes with it so it should run perfectly

      • Oh no! All sold out now!

  • The one day that I step out into the real world and don't check ozbargain this gets posted…any plans of a similar deal soon?

  • Gotta admire a business model with provision for "stock found on a trolley"

    • I think he/she means platform trolley, not the supermarket trolley.

      • I presumed so too.
        I feel you're overthinking this

  • Can anyone suggest another listing with stock that would be good as a web/Netflix/minecraft box for a youngen?

  • missed it

  • What are the physical dimentions of the Optiplex 9020 in the SFF available now.
I want to know if i can fit it in my suitcase and take it as a gift overseas.

  • I picked up a SFF. Impulse buy for a project. Now thinking of taking a different approach. $250 and can deliver to Melbourne SE suburbs if anyones interested.

    • Still got this machine ??

  • +1

Just wanted to provide feedback to say that I was very happy with this deal. Quick postage and the Optiplex performs extremely well. I am surprised how well these machines work given their age. I had a spare monitor, keyboard and mouse so I have a very cheap full setup for office tasks.
