I've always been offered porting in with Coles SIMs. In fact I don't know of any telcos that don't offer port in.

        • @greenpossum: ok thanks

        • colesmobile.com.au/activate

When I tried to activate online there was a "3. Your number" option to choose to bring your own number… but when I click "activate" button at the end it just throws what looks like a validation error with no info and sends me back to the 3 section and empties out the rest of the form I filled out and tries to make me fill it out again…

        • +1

@secondstory: The Optus activation pages are horrid. Everytime I use it I worry that it might use up the activation code and get no service, but so far touch wood. Just persist and do it again until it works.

Also it will ask you to supply a CC for ID verification. I always decline that and use my driving license instead so that they don't have any CC details of mine and can't charge me by mistake, however tiny the risk.

        • @secondstory:
I got same error you ever get it to work?

    • Short story: Yes
      Long story: Yes, you can.

    Is this 42GB per month?

"Recharge by 07/08/18 on the Coles Prepaid plan"

Does this mean i can buy this now and not activate it until August? I am currently on kogan 1 year plan that expires end of March.

    • +1

I'm not sure if they have an expiry on purchased SIMs and recharges. I would just wait until end of March to buy it.

    • I suspect you don't even need to buy the special $180 sim card.

After reading the extra information on their website it looks like they now have a $180/365 day/36GB plan as a recharge option.
If you recharge $180 or buy the $180 sim pack and activate it before 07/08/18 you get the bonus 6GB as well.
If you recharge after 07/08/18 you miss out on the 6GB bonus and only get 36GB instead of 42GB.

Check their plans page to confirm the details.

and the CIS linked from that page (linked below to make it easier to find)
      http://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Documents…

    • The back of the packet reads "Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion". Since you're buying the sim standalone and then activating with the recharge I assume 30 days.

  • This is a full $70 cheaper, with the same inclusions, than a year with Aldi.

…is it worth the trouble of switching though…

    • +3

      Haha my thoughts exactly.
My ALDI Super Pack is due to expire in 21 days ….

      • Lol I'm down to 20 days.

    • I jumped to Kogan mobile.

  • I'm confused- as the link goes to a $180 sim card, and my Coles told me that doesn't exist.

Would be good to get clear steps OP- is this correct?

    1. Buy a $2 sim from Coles
    2. Go to https://secure-cm.com.au/cor/launch and recharge $180?
    • I wouldn't do that, the SIM has the credit attached. Just pester your Coles to stock them.

      • Why- will it not work? I've already bought the $2 SIM

        • It might or it might not. And you've spent $2 more than necessary.

        • You can just recharge the $180 online. Yes you've spent $2 more than needed but now the hassle of going back to refund the $2 will probably be too much effort.

    • If you'd read on you'd have found -

"Coles Prepaid bonus data: Customers who activate a $2 SIM and recharge with $180, activate a $180 SIM or recharge with $180 on the Coles Prepaid plan from 07/02/18 until 07/08/18 will receive 42GB data (36GB + 6GBbonus) on every."

      • Yes I did read that- which is why what greenpossum said has me confused.

Really don't want to waste $180 here.

Could I get some clarity please?

        • It's showing as a recharge option for existing services. Just activate the $2 sim then recharge with $120 as opposed to 20/40.

        • @jjjaar: Sorry- now I'm more confused-

Why would I recharge only $120? The offer says I need to top up with $180.

          Can someone confirm?

        • +1

          @ycon: that was a typo. I mean 180.

  • Why is the deal set to expire on 13 Feb?

    • +1

The deal was based on information copy+pasted from the catalogue sneak preview, is a bit confusing and their website has been updated since.

They probably had the 13th Feb because the catalogue is for 7 days.
The deal 6GB bonus expires 07/08/18 so that would be more appropriate as the 42GB deal expiry.
The $180 unlimited plan with 36GB data appears to be ongoing without expiry.

The $180 sim card doesn't appear to be necessary.
The limit of 1 per customer doesn't make sense if you can just upgrade existing plans or get a $2 sim and recharge $180.

  • Has anyone successfully completed the online form for activation yet?

It wont let me activate, keeps sending me back to step three with an empty red validation message box so I'm not sure what it's trying to tell me. From what I can see I've filled it out correctly.

    • +1

Yeah, see my answer above. Just persist.

      • Thanks greenpossum. Still no luck this morning, now its getting to the second last step and sending me back to the start and empties the form. I'm quite sure I'm going to have nightmares about the ui when this is over.

        • had the same error tried three browsers you have any success

  • So After august i wont Get that amount of Data per month ?

what About Mobile Rates and assuming i Have no Sims that i want to port or an old telstra / kogan Sim what do i Need to do ?

thinking of possbily Using this for data until i make up my mind on what i want to Do with my freedom Plus sim and the Main number …

  • Do you have to buy this instore? Or can the sim be ordered online?

  • Dos it Stack ?

  • Can you use phone locked to Optus?

  • 4G 700 very popular in my district. It's the only 4G at a lot of towers so I'm stuck with Telstra or Optus network. Voda still a fail.

    Really crap activation experience,
Coles ran out of $180 recharge sim, so bought $2 sim.
Try to activate online and recharge $180 online. Fails around 5 times, kept giving different errors ( used different browsers).
In that process, Coles manage to charge(but pending), 2 * 0.01cent and 1 * 180 transaction to my CC.
Have to call up to activate but they cannot take recharge
Went with recharge via phone option, select $180 option, taking CC again, then said transaction fail. Amount exceed transaction limit.
In the end recharge via website/paypal. LOL!!!!

Never buy Coles Mobile if you are trying to port from optus to Coles Mobile. After 25 days of deliberation, calling DAILY and escalating through the TIO. I lost my number, and was told, that this issue will never be resolved. The are now offering a refund, but i have lost my number in the process. I had to call daily and only got some work done through TIO, and that also took 2 weeks. The optus team was fine, but the Coles support does not exist. You can not even get a refund from Coles. I took the sim back and they refused to give refund and call cole's care. Coles care doesn't work on mobile cases. Its a cluster F%^%**%^ and you don't go anywhere. All its done is that now i'll avoid Coles as much as I can.

    1. Does anyone know how long this deal will last for?
    2. If I purchase this deal and dont activate it, will it activate even after this deal ends?
  • Has anyone else had issues porting their number? I am on amaysim and have put through the port to coles bit its been 9 hours and i haven't got the coles mobile activated. Getting worried now
