    How is this a bargain?

    • Free installation

    • +4

free deliver + free home installation + additional 18 months warranty on coils, power supplies, PCBs.

      • -2

        lol

        It's not free, it's $6999

Why is this a bargain ???

        • +5

I think these machines are very expensive in general, enthusiasts spend a lot of $$ on these and also acrade machines… not Ozbargain's target audience

        • -1

          @Oz8argain:

I think these machines are very expensive in general

There's still nothing in the description above the explains why this is a bargain.

        • @Oz8argain: Well said

"OzBargain target audience" I like that…

        • @jv: I donno JV, if they charge $1k to deliver and install normally and now it's free, I guess its a bargain? I get where you are comming from, no discount on the purchase price is not technically a good bargain

        • @Oz8argain:

if they charge $1k to deliver and install normally and now it's free, I guess its a bargain?

Nope, it's only a bargain if it can be shown it can't be bought for significantly cheaper elsewhere and it's been reduced from it's normal price… Simple as that…
It's the responsibility of the person posting the deal to justify why this is a bargain.

        • +7

          Please compare the new pinball market. The machine is between $1875 to $6000 cheaper than the starting prices of a Stern or Jersey Jack pinball. The bargain is this (as long as you purchase prior to 21st February);

          • free delivery. Its Australia wide, so you save (depending on where you are located) between $126 to $720 on transport costs.

          • free installation and setup. This is available to customers who are located in capital cities in Australia. The cost is $120-290 depending on city.

          • extended warranty. Additional 18 months for all major components. Save $150.

Total saving = $396 min to $1,160 depending on where you live.

        • -8

There is another question.. Why would you buy a game size of a single bed for $7k when you can play this game at an arcade for $2 a shot. Even better get a gameboy..!!!

        • @accessdenied: I guess it is more a matter of your personal situation. If you have the cash and room for it (and like that particular pinball machine) then feel free to get it.
It is a bit like why buy a luxury car when you could get a cheaper car or public transport instead.
Personally I’m in a position where I can afford things like this (just need the ok from the wife) but I do agree that it is a bit of a niche market, especially when talking about it on OzBargain.
I’m also curious to know if the warranty still applies if used for commercial purposes.

        • -4

@danielh: Chill.. It was on a lighter note..!!!

        • +4

          @Highway:
Extended warranty raises a red-flag for me. Surely a $7000 toy that is used domestically (rather than commercially in an arcade) would be covered by your obligations via the ACL for a lot longer than 2 years.

        • +1

          @danielh:

Yes thanks, the warranty also applies for commercial use.

  • +4

    Cool ad

  • -8

    Spam for manchildren

    • +5

I'd say someone who can drop $7k on a toy like this is pretty cool tbh

      • -1

Quite the opposite. They probably also browse Reddit.

        • +7

Do you always flog or are you just being a flogger here?

      • Yeah for sure, when I was younger and partied a mate had the Daytona machine at his place and we used to shred on it all the time before heading out and then again as the sun rose and we got in haha. It was great everyone would jump on for at least one go.

  • +8

    12 months warranty for a $7000 item???

    • Should be 5 years or 5'000 hours, whatever comes first

  • +7

So you're saying a $7k Pinball machine only comes with a 12 month warranty as standard. Might wanna brush up on the ACL.

    • +8

Rep used to work for Apple

    • +1

Nothing wrong with that, manufacturer warranty 12 months…. now as for consumer warranty… well that's a different story.

  • So what price is this normally?

    • +1

      $7000 ?

  • +3

Thanks OP, bought 5 for my office. Happy staff = more profits $$$$

    • +1

Don't think that logic applies for home offices.

    • Staff playing pinball = Less productivity. :P

    • Can you deduce it as Expenses ?

  • That video looks like it was shot on a phone (well, except for the bits that were ripped off the Thunderbirds show). Without focusing.

    • -2

except for the bits that were ripped off the Thunderbirds show

I wonder if they have permission to use the copyrighted clips of the show?

      • +4

Yes, the product/advertising/etc is fully licensed with permission. Voice, speech, graphics/artwork is used in the game play and on the cabinet.

Please note, this video was taken at a test location in a bar in Guangzhou/China before release to the market.

  • F.A.B.

  • +5

I'm with JV. Fail to see the bargain? Any price comparisons?

    Seems like advertising to me

  • Would love to try and convince my boss to get this, but it's about $6200 too expensive for him :( He only buys cheap as hell, fully working gaming units.

  • Ahhhhh. Good old pinnies. Bit hard to consider buying this without trying it out though. I will admit that I’m on the lookout for a reconditioned Guns N Roses pinball machine by Data East (only 3,000 ever made). I’ll consider Indianna Jones as well.
If you want to have some fun playing some old and new pinball machines in Melbourne I recommend Pinball Paradise and for Brisbane you should try Netherworld.
Neither had GnR there when I checked in Jan 2018. Oh well.

  • OP How about this

    • Don't be stupid, you have to pay delivery on that one.

      • Haha the shipping is $6.95

  • so cheapz, think i will buy 2

  • +4

Recommended Retail Price for this product is $6.5k as per the Manufacturer. How is selling it at $500 more than RRP a bargain?

    • The RRP is $6999 as per manufacturer.

      • +1

        When did that change?

As at the end of September last year when it was being touted by the Manufacturer is was $6,499 RRP as per forum posts and their own Facebook page?

        • It changed at the beginning of this year. Previously, the factory also quoted that the machine would include animated light box, however due to the significant cost increases over these last 2-3 years in China this is no longer available. The machine will still ship with electronic coin mechanism and shaker motor.

        • @Highway:

So essentially, it's now missing a feature (the animated light box) and costing $500 more?

          Come on!

        • @nismo:
Prices were quoted few years ago before the product went into production. The manufacturer has done his very best to release a reliable pinball machine at the lowest price possible.

If you understand the pinball market, you can see the product is already thousands of dollars cheaper than other alternative models available. Some other pinball factories charge extra for shaker motors, etc.. which this machine still includes as standard.

      • +1

So the recommended retail price is $6,999, and you're selling it for $6,999? So where is the bargain? By definition, I can get it from anyone at that price, you aren't providing a bargain.

For what it's worth, I used to operate pinballs in the '80s and '90s and it was always $7k to buy a new release pinball. Even recently they went for similar prices.

        • The bargain is that we deliver to you (Australia wide) for free, as well as install for free, and give you 2 years warranty (even for operators).

Since you already have experience with pinball, you would understand that no one gives 2 years warranty on a pinball machine. Please also give some of the pinball sellers in Australia a call for the current pricing on pinball as it has significantly changed - Jersey Jack pinballs sell for nearly $13,000 as their start model, whilst entry level Stern Pinballs sell for $8,350 without coin mechanism or shaker motor (and 6mths warranty on selected parts) whilst their premium models sell for over $12,000.

        • @Highway: Sure, the price of a base machine has undoubtedly gone up, and I can see the value-added items in delivery, 2 year replacement warranty, coin mechs etc. (the shaker motor is either part of the machine or it's not, it's not like you should option these things up like a car!) so it's probably good pricing and value. And I get that these are primarily aimed at the home market. But my point is, this is the RRP. I could walk into your shop last week or next month and you would sell it to me for this price, and it would include all those value-added items.

OzBargain is about revealing special deals on a product, reduced prices, multiple item offers etc. Otherwise these pages would just be filled with stuff for sale, and at normal retail price. That isn't what "bargain" means. Keep us happy, what extra deal can you provide for OzBargain subscribers, that your regular customers don't get? Something more than 50 free games left on the machine :) .

        • @endotherm:

          Thanks for your comments.

Please note, after 21st February, you will not get the valued-added items (Highway is paying the costs, not the manufacturer). The bargain is the delivery/warranty/etc, and the saving is between $396 to $1,160 depending on where you live. If you purchase next month these are not available, that is, we will not absorb these additional costs. Once the customers are not located in eastern capital cities, there is a high chance we will either break even or make loss on the sale due to the high transport/service costs (what do we accept the loss? - to allow a new pinball manufacturer to gain access to all customers across Australia on a level playing field)

I (and many of the office team) are Ozbargainers and understand how the offers work. Either its a discounted price, stock clearance, or value added. For Thunderbirds Pinball, its a brand new model entering the market - its genuine savings we have offered (just because the price has not changed, the hidden costs are in transport across Australia as well as service costs). For people who really are interested in ordering a pinball, they would already know the freight costs across Australia as well as warranties.

          Previously we offered an incredibly low price (below our cost) to Ozbargainers on our Game Wizard Xtreme machine;

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/320843

The saving was an additional $1,000 discount to Ozbargainers.

It really is the most advanced machine in the marketplace, and now being copied around the world. It was designed in Newcastle and is currently being sold in over 10 countries internationally. Unfortunately again, many of the community did not understand what the product is or what savings they were receiving.

We have tried to offer genuine savings. I hope people who are purchasing their next new pinball from Australian vendors can compare this deal to understand the value of this offer.

  • OP how many are left? I'd probably buy all. Makes for a good Chrisie gift..!!

    • Can I be your friend?

      • AccessDenied

  • +9

Negging due to major issue with vendor. There is no discount whatsoever and no stock in Australia, contrary to Associated OP's description declaring …

… the pinball machine is now available.

    … but deliberately omitting …

For arcade machine orders we will only accept payment by bank deposit.

… consequently we are invited to prepay now for estimated April delivery without PayPal protection, thus making RoboGuy's original offer seem reasonable.

    • +1

I agree wholeheartedly, though what's the reference to RoboGuy about? What offer from RoboGuy?

    • +1

You put up the deposit is the cash flow they need to operate, should try a bank

I will take one for $699 not a penny more.

    • -3

I am sorry you cannot see any bargain. There is a saving of $396-$1,160 in freight/etc for anyone who orders. Once the offer expires, you will need to pay your own freight, assembly/setup, etc.

The factory has started assembling machines already, and will handle new orders based on upfront payment. We receive your deposit, and we pay balance to the factory, then ship the goods to Australia. Most manufacturers (especially mainstream manufacturers in Japan) use this model to secure exact production numbers.

We are not here to cheat anyone, the last pinball series Highway Entertainment distributed was Bally/Williams in the 1990's, which were then sold through agents across Australia. Bally/Williams machines were/are the #1 pinball product in the world.

The reason why we only accept bank payment is the high level of fraud with expensive paypal orders.

If you have any further questions, please call our office.

      • +2

The reason why we only accept bank payment is the high level of fraud with expensive paypal orders.

The reason i only pay using PayPal is to reduce risk of fraud especially with expensive items such as pinball machines.

Anyway, $6,999? Where did i leave my 'Highway robbery' joke. It's here somewhere…

      • +1

There is a saving of $396-$1,160 in freight/etc for anyone who orders.

That is omitted from your above description and your product page.

If you have any further questions, please call our office.

I have not asked one. Any questions I have will be asked here.

  • +4

If pinball is your thing , get thee to Pinball Hall of Fame in Vegas. Unbelievable.

  • -1

Its NOT fiction it is real, other than that, carry on.

Knock the 9 of the end and i will take one

  • The sound of an EM machine is a thing of beauty.

  • +2

Can't beat Williams/Bally machines of the 90s, all this new stuff from Stern and the likes is nothing compared to that era.

    Spotted this on OP's site;

Highway Entertainment offers a series of warranty options, depending on the product on offer.

What type of warranty offered is dependent upon the condition of the product, the manufacturer and the items location.

All of our products online should state what warranty is offered with their purchase. If warranty information is not displayed, you can simply contact us and let us know what product you are interested in.

Please note that some of our used or reconditioned machines that are sold "as is" do not come with warranties.

I'm sure the ACCC would be really impressed if they see that last line of text. OP, as mentioned by other OzBargainers, you definitely need to brush up on Australian Consumer Law.

    • We have already discussed with Fair Trading, etc….well before.

Some products which as sold "as-is" come with no warranty. For example, there is video machine cabinet missing a monitor - we tell you the monitor is missing, the machine is not usable, and that we list this on our website, on the invoice, explain to you on the phone, etc… It means please do not buy it unless you are fully aware the machine does not work, and, that you accept that these terms as we cannot offer you warranty. This just one example.

We mention very clearly BEFORE you purchase a machine, what is and is not included in the warranty. We have strict process in our company.

For Thunderbirds Pinball machine, we currently offer the longest and most covered pinball warranty in Australia.

      • +1

        Discussed with Fair Trading? Really? They would've advised you that you need to have a mandatory statement in your warranty terms;

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

        • +1

Yes,really. We actually take the warranty very seriously and have our customer's happiness as our priority.

For new machines (such as Thunderbirds Pinball), we will actually come to your home during the warranty period if there is major failure at our cost and solve the problem. This is not required by Australian Consumer.

However, for used/non working/parted out machines, we inform you clearly before you purchase what warranties we offer. If there is no warranty, we clearly inform you (again, before you purchase) that purchasing the product comes with XXX warranty.

          If you review this product;

          https://www.highway.net.au/arcade-machines/crane-machines/ac…

We are selling as not-working, and sold as-is, and no warranty. We have told you the machine is not working - if you decide to purchase, you cannot come to us and ask for warranty (for us to fix the machine). Common sense needs to take place.

But I suggest you talk with Fair Trading about consumer law as we have previously paid lawyers to make sure we are not taken advantage of.

As we mentioned, we are not here to cheat anyone. If you are serious about buying arcade & pinball machines, we will support you 100%.

        • +1

          @Highway:
Wow - those must be serious faults if you can't fix it!

  • +1

Essentially you are the sole Australian supplier for this pinball machine. You are selling at RRP. But you throw in some warranty and unbox it fr the customer.

The mark up on most things is 100%. The cost of warranty should be negligible.

This is only OK if you are desperate to have this.. And you still pay RRP anyway.

    • +2

      No this is not true.

Markup is ridiculously low on amusement machines/pinball machines and its ALL about warranty. Pinballs have so many parts, that its very easy for things to break. With expensive parts such Dot Matrix Displays, if this fails and the machine is out of warranty, the cost is approximately $280-300 alone.

Please compare what the offer is - you buy the pinball machine, then we ship to you for Free, we install for you for Free, and we cover you for extended warranty (no one does this in the industry). This is Australia wide. Once the deal expires, the offer becomes the same as what is in the market (you pay freight, you install yourself, you cover the warranty after 6 or 12months depending on supplier/manufacturer).

      • +2

I have no idea on margins.
However the fact remains that you are selling something at RRP with free delivery (expected surely) plus a 2nd year of warranty on major parts.

This may be a good deal from your perspective but to us it isn't.

Any deal at RRP plus a 2nd year free warranty and free delivery would usually be ignored. And this is seven THOUSAND dollars.

        Niche market I guess.

  • Why has this bargain only had 15 upvotes? Come on OB community, you’ve lost your touch!

Thanks for your comments, but sorry we do not agree with you. There are few troubles still in play with Oculus in pinball (motion sickness for some players, how to play as multi player when your friends come over, etc….)

If you want to play real/traditional pinball we are recommending Thunderbirds Pinball.
if you want to play video pinball we are recommending Arcooda Video Pinball (coming this year).

      Arcooda is our sister company, it has been in development of a high model video pinball for the past 4 years, and is working exclusively with companies such as FarSight Studios (the maker of Pinball Arcade, recreator of Williams/Bally/Gottlieb/etc…) to make a high end 3D style pinball but without glasses. It will work and act like a real pinball and since we have been working directly with the software developers, problems such as game lag, etc.. will be either eliminated or brought down to the limits of the hardware. If you want to follow the project please view;

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdPNeTyEFAw

The 3D version will be on display hopefully in Brisbane and Newcastle towards end of March this year.
