  • It's a great price but the delivery time can be very long time. Like 2 months based on my past experiences.

Should add this to post description.

        Thanks ulbyks

    • Is it the real global version though. I was told by Light In The Box that mine was global. It did an OTA update and now it is stuck in a boot loop. I have had to log a PayPal dispute to get my money back.

  • Is this the successor to the Redmi Note 4X ?

    • -1

Yep. Consensus is that the screen is bigger and the rest is pretty similar to the note 4x. Same snapdragon 625. Also this one is only 2g for the second SIM.

      • +2

AFAIK it is 4G and 3G

      • Also this one is only 2g for the second SIM.

I'd be very surprised if that's correct. It would basically make the dual SIM useless.
Have you got a source for that?

        • I found it in a couple of reviews online, which unfortunately I can't find again. Nowhere reputable obviously. I'll be happy to be wrong - it stopped me buying it myself.

        • According this this site's specs

          https://buymobile.com.au/products/xiaomi-redmi-5-plus-dual-s…

It provides Dual SIM Standby (One 3G/4G SIM and One 2G SIM)

But no confirmation either way in gsmarena/mi sites.

          Although this says
          https://xiaomi-mi.com/redmi-5-plus/xiaomi-redmi-5-plus-high-…
          GSM / CDMA / HSPA / LTE
          2G bands GSM 850/900/1800/1900 — SIM 1 & SIM 2
          ….
          To be confirmed*

        • This blog claims that the Redmi 5 Plus (and most of the other recent Xiaomi phones) supports 4G in one SIM and 3G in the other.

    • +1

No, one has a X and the other is a Loner.

    • Note 5 and note 5 plus have just been released
so this phone should get cheaper although the Note 5 is virtually the same
      https://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/reviews/xiaomi-redmi-note-5…

      • Well, this phone has been released in India with that name, in addition to a pro version with a better CPU and camera.
Personally i think if you can stretch the budget and wait a couple of months, the Indian Pro version will be the budget Xiaomi phone to get.

      • With 10% improved performance

Does this have a notification led?

      Shut up. 😂😂😂😂

  • NFC? Gsmarena doesn't say either way

    • +1

      No.

      • thanks.

  • Does anyone know if it's AU power plug in either OP's or the global version?

    • +1

Xiaomi have the 2 pin plugs by default. Both should send one of those cheap adapters.

Good to see you are back in business!

    • +6

I got sent to the penalty box for saying that last time.

      • +4

Not sure why my comment above was marked as off topic, you really couldn't get more on topic than asking a question about the features of the phone.

All I asked was if it has a notification led?

        • +1

I reported you to the mods.
Then I got sent to the penalty box.

  • Expired, price increases.

  • I'd love the larger capacity, but damn I"m already committed to the USB-C standard. When are we gonna get a phone like this with USB-C for a good price?

  • -1

What, no band 28 moaning yet?

  • +3

Guys not trying to scare anyone. I have purchased one from LITB it is a beautiful phone however the software upgrade is not supported by Xiaomi as when I did the upgrade my phone became brick on recovery 3.0 mode and its a hell lot of a work that I can not do to fix the issue. So I am in the process of sending this one back, hope I can get the refund.Only buy if you are a tech pro both hardware and software.

    • +2

For anyone stuck with the Redmi 5 Plus looping into the recovery mode after the Over The Air (OTA) update: I was successful in unbricking it, using the following technique ( but be aware: your mileage may vary):

It does involve removing the cover to access the test-point, so it is not for everyone. Also I did find it a lot harder to remove the cover than they make it look in the video (I assume they have had more practice).

      • Would you know a service shop where I can get this one done.As I am sacred if I do the repair my self I might stuff up everything and it will def avoid warranty. And also so you if this is once off issue or it will happen every time when you update.

        • +1

Unfortunately I don't have any good answers for you:

          • I assumed that just opening the case would void the warranty, but given the hassle of returning the item to China I was willing to take that risk. It has bricked anyway - how much worse can I make it?
          • No I don't know of any service shops that would do this for you. But that does not mean that there isn't any. If you find that no service shop will do it for you, there could be an individual working in such a shop that may do it for you. So it is worth asking. In my experience: Ask three times (not all in the one day!).
          • The first time I tried to un-bricked my Redmi 5+ I re-flashed it with the "Global" ROM but it went straight back into the recover loop. The 2nd time I use the ROM recommended in the first video ( link appears in the description. It is a "Chinese" ROM). This worked. I selected English as my language but some of the system message still come up in Chinese. It does keep telling me that there is an OTA update but I have not been game enough to try. I want to go though the process of unlocking the bootloader first. Based on what I have read in the forums I am more likely to have success this way. But that is a story for another time
        • +1

I suggest logging a PayPal dispute if you paid that way. I had the same problem. They should not be allowed to get away with deceiving us.

        • @ozbarney:Did they refund you or replacement?

        • @d-hunterz:
Just heard back from PayPal. I have to send it back at my cost to LITB. I think I will try the fix. I really don't trust this company enough that after it finally arrives back they will actually refund my money. They are very untrustworthy.

        • @Darkwing:
Sorry. Quick question. Did it take a long time to flash. Mine seems to be taking forever, but the videos I watched went quick. I also did not get a com port up. But the device did appear in the flashing tool. I am trying again. I stopped it before because it seemed like it wasn't going to finish. The progress bar got to the end and it didn't stop for minutes.

        • @d-hunterz:
My advice is to send it back. Whilst trying to get the back cover off (which was really difficult), I think I damaged my volume down button. This was definitely a bad experience. Light In The Box should be ashamed of themselves for selling these fake global roms and putting their customers through this hell.

        • @ozbarney: I will definitely be sending it back, hopefully, Paypal cover me for it. Do you think I will get the postage from PayPal if I claim?
I should have bought something(phone) from AU seller/retailer.

        • @ozbarney: I don't recall exactly how long it took, but was only about 5-10 mins at the most.

      • +1

Thanks so much Darkwing! I bought the phone 2 weeks ago and got it 3 days ago, lucky me. Updated the OS and got the boot loop thing happening to me. Luckily, my wife saw your comment here and I got it back up and running that very night. Much appreciated!

        • +1

I would still suggest you to contact LITB as you might have to update it oneday.

    • d-hunterz, can you please clarify what 'the software upgrade' was? do you mean a stock standard normal patch to MIUI?

i'm a bit confused how they can't support a standard upgrade.

(ahh.. I've now checked out the wiki page.. seems to suggest that patches aren't supported on EU devices.. a whole new rom must be installed. err?? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIUI)

just seems strange.. and kinda sht.
I was thinking about going over to lineageos.. maybe sooner is better than later eh

      • (p.s aahhh I think I've got it now.. you mean the root/update req'd due to having the chinese version phone.. this issue would not apply to the global version?)

        • yes that is right, but a normal person would let the update run assuming it should be ok to do. But it bricked the phone. The phone is going back to LITB.
I even heard from people with mi mix 2 has the same issue as well. Looks like I will sticking to AU versions from now on. Lesson learned.

        • @d-hunterz:

I've heard, unsure if true, that the 'chinese' version is also worse in terms of build quality. i think they have to put more into the hardware of the global versions to appease various markets/google etc.

          dunno for sure tho.

i just got the redmi 4(not 4x/note) global version, 2gb. perfect for my needs. was $140 delivered. if the specs suit, I can highly recommend it.

  • +2

and to the people who already bought it please do not install the upgrade or do your homework before you do that.
