Anime – 2014 – 18+ – 12 episodes – Anime, Sci-Fi/Fantasy

In modern day Tokyo, society lives in fear of Ghouls: creatures who look exactly like humans - yet hunger insatiably for their flesh. None of this matters to Ken Kaneki, a bookish and ordinary boy, until a dark and violent encounter turns him into the first ever Ghoul-human half breed. Trapped between two worlds, Ken must survive the violent conflicts of warring Ghoul factions, while attempting to learn more about his powers.

I bought this - excellent show, lots of action, horror and some gore(if that's what you're into); and your main character isn't a complete wuss or easy push over either!

Waiting for seasons 3 to be dubbed and any subsequent seasons thereafter….

    • Apparently the third season is going to be the "proper telling" of the second, as the second was shat on because they went on a different direction to the manga

      • +1

The "third season" may as well be considered a totally different series if they go through with it. The anime went on a completely different track and went to the gutter. The new anime will adapt Tokyo Ghoul Re which the sequel to the original manga. Anime only watchers are going to be sooooooo confused lol, as the ending to the manga is completely different to the anime

        • I liked the second season. Too many people acting like the manga is the holy book

        • Na.

Its fine if it goes off source. The problem was the off source stuff they did was just garbage, a complete trainwreck

        • @Pacify: Are there any shows that follow their original source (if they have one) closely and doesn't ever go on a tangent that doesn't exist?

Also, know of any shows that are original, as in they have no prior source material they follow and are animated from a story that's made from scratch that are decent?

        • @Zachary:
          Do you mean:
Is there a show that 100% follows original source?
          And
          Series that weren't an adaptation?

      • oh…that's interesting…

I just caught up to date on the manga (original and re:). It is the most confusing manga I've ever read with a cast of a hundred characters, each with 3 names (including multiple aliases and nicknames), drawn very similar to each other and kept changing because they get new haircuts and change into different forms of ghouls. Not only that, the scenery changes a lot between two or more places with flashbacks without telling you it's a flashback or moved from party A to party B. Literally had to open up the wiki permanently to refer to people and events in order to make out whats going on.

Hope the Anime does better than the manga at telling the story.. lol.

    • I've also read the original and re to it's current point and I hear this complaint on the comment threads at the end of the chapter. Personally I've never had this issue. It's honestly one of my favourite manga's in terms of character development.

    • Have to agree, RE is super confusing unless you pay real close attention

  • Censored?

    • haven't watched yet but Microsoft mentioned 18+

    • -4

      lol. There's nothing to censor.

      • Not according to the studio.

Animated violence, blood and guts. There's no sex scenes or even nudity in it, unless they added it in the Anime - except for one love scene that is not even animated yet (spoiler).

        • @bchliu: they censor blood…… to start with

        • @bchliu: not sure which version this is but both were 18+

      • +1

        Haha…. hahaha

Are you serious? When Tokyo ghoul aired the censoring was out of this world. Some scenes 90% of the screen was black, or they inverted the colours so blood wasn't red. It was complete trainwreck

Thanks for that OP. Got it.

  • Is this dubbed? Only reason it'd be a bargain..

The subbed version has been free on AnimeLab since it came out (https://www.animelab.com/shows/tokyo-ghoul) …

    • It is. Very crip, American voices there. Happy now?

  • How do you actually watch this? I click on the watch button and it just opens up a Open URL:Mircosoftvideo pop up and then nothing happens?
